It is clear what the bible says about adultery and fornication, it is strictly forbidden. God expects those who are married to forsake all others and be intimate only with one another…

1 Corinthians 7:1-2 (NKJV)

It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.

Most of us also enjoy a good movie, television show or play, and appreciate a great performance from a talented actor or actress. Some of the movies, shows or plays have love scenes. It could range from a kiss…to partially clothed making out…to fully nude, erotic love scenes. I’m not talking about porn, I’m talking about the movies that are accepted and even awarded by the mainstream population.

Sometimes these actors and actresses are not only married, but profess to be Christians. Let me be clear that I AM NOT JUDGING THEIR FAITH OR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, but I do have a challenging question.

The kisses are real.

The touching is real.

Sometimes, the nudity is real.

Even if they aren’t having intercourse, they are having sexual contact with someone other than their husband or wife.

If you aren’t an actor, how do feel about your spouse kissing or touching someone else? Most people say “No Way!”. Now, how do you feel about your spouse getting paid to have sexual contact with someone else…again a definite, “No!”

Now here’s the real challenging question for us as Christians. It their intimate contact is considered by God to be sin, does watching it and enjoying it make us partakers with them? Is it shameful for us to talk about the scenes in our daily conversation? Consider this…

Ephesians 5:5-10 (NKJV)

For this you know,[a] that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not be partakers with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit[b] is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.

Does God change the rules just because of our occupation? Does the fact that they are ‘acting’ mean it’s not real contact? And, if God considers it to be wrong, do we share in the sin when we watch, enjoy and share what we watched?

Has this become the ‘accepted’ open relationship?

Think about it. Pray about it. Feel free to reply and tell me what you think.

  1. Its voyeurism, or too close to it! Truthfully, these sex scenes are hardly necessary from a story line perspective but sex sells. We have to draw the line as to where God draws it and obey Him on it. For actors who are Christian they must ask if their love for God supersedes their love for acting. And, if these intimate scenes are going to cause adultery in the mind…

  2. I never thought of cheating in that context. As I read your post, I thought about numerous Hollywood marriages that ended after actors spent months filming a movie and/or had steamy love scenes for a movie. I am also reminded of Ms. Angela Bassett who pledged to never do a movie that required her to remove her clothes. I admire her for remaining consistent in an industry that is not kind to women, especially women of color.

  3. This is one reason I struggle to respect Hollywood actors who claim to be Christian. They keep doing these scenes. It’s another bucket into the ocean of lustful material that’s keeping young men locked into lustful habits from their computer screens, and it’s the opposite of a witness. I realize they don’t get work without doing these scenes, but perhaps that’s a price they should be more willing to pay.

  4. One thought I have is that the Bible tells us to flee all appearances of sin. My wife and I chose years ago to strive to do this in what movies we watch. Very few of the movies that come out today do we watch for this reason. This includes sex scenes and foul language. Why do we need to see or listen to this? Whatsoever is of good report, think on these things.
Temptation to sin is strong enough, why add to it?
    Thanks for sharing.

  5. The questions here that should be asked is if God only cares about the intentions and the feelings present in the heart, is before I participate in these types of scenes, is will they cause any forms of lust to myself, anybody I interact with and the audience?

  6. Matthew 5:28 says “But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart”, now obviously this verse tells us God’s standard is different than the human standard of lust. So let’s not just limit the discussion to an actress or actor, you can say the same about lust for a model or a dancer. But keeping on topic for the actress or actor in a movie or tv show, I have no doubt on film or TV sets, there are multiple cameras, lighting, crews or other background factors involved and I am definitely sure there are other feelings between actors or actresses like awkwardness and nervousness. Question: Is it possible for an actor or actress to kiss another actress or actor on the lips and have no feelings of lust? Absolutely, it completely depends on the type of kiss. Is it possible for the girlfriend/boyfriend, wife/husband of the actor or actress when watching to have feelings of jealousy, anger or other unwanted feelings? You can make a case either way, but in most cases the answer would be yes, and it also depends on the type of people involved. The fact is whether your a Christian or not there are a number of problems I have discussed that could be created for a number of parties from participating in scenes where physical contact of a sexual nature would be involved.

  7. Unfortunately, this is a situation I am now facing my with boyfriend of 10 years. We are both in our 50’s and he is a stand in for a well-known Showtime series. He assured me that he would never be expected to do any kissing or intimate touching in any scenes. Well, I found one of the scripts and sure enough, found that he was straddled by a woman in her 20’s or 30’s and there was quite a bit of embracing while they stood-in for what was an extremely explicit sex scene. After lying to me several times saying there was never any intimate contact, he finally admitted that she climbed on him while he sat on a couch and straddled his legs for a few minutes. Then he said around that time that if he ever had the opportunity to be an actor in a movie or show with sex scenes he would do it depending on the role and the money. This was in Nov. 2017 I found out all this. Everyday since that time, I live in fear of what type of scenes he will stand in for and I stay depressed and sad all the time. I dealt with all of his ogling and flirting with much younger women, and other things. He told me he gave up this acting dream he had when he was in his 20’s. This is just something I don’t think I can accept because I look at it as cheating. I sacrificed so much for him over the years, and am finally realizing that he never has and never will be truly in love with me. But foolish me am still so in love with this man and it is hard to leave.

  8. Great article! I miss the old movies that showed more modest forms of affection and left the rest to the imagination. I do agree that yes it IS real contact in these love scenes and the flesh cannot help but respond in the moment, that is all real, even if they are acting. The body never lies; it has real biological responses to physical contact, especially of a sensual nature. So I do not think those of the faith should engage in these scenes unless they are done in such a way as in the old black and white movies…leaving much to the imagination.

      1. What do you think about the Hallmark Channel or Pure Flix. I personally know a lot of Christians who what the Hallmark Channel because of the clean content. A kiss at the end. No sex or anything like that. Not only the Hallmark Channel there is also UPTV.

  9. What do you think about channels who strive to provide clean content for entertainment like Hallmark Channel and UPTV. I know many Christians who watch because at the end it’s a kiss. A lot of Faith movies out there lately.
