Even though we should never LIVE in the past, a beautiful memory can be a powerful mental escape. Think of it as a mental vacation. We can’t live on vacation, but a well-timed getaway can be refreshing and help us when we return to everyday life.

A beautiful memory is a gift of God that should never be taken for granted.

Have you ever stopped and thought about the power or a beautiful memory?

It can sustain you on your darkest day…

Help you heal as you grieve over a lost loved one…

Help you deal with a child or loved one who doesn’t appreciate you…

Give you a mental break during the workday to help you refocus…

Provide ‘company’ during moments of extreme loneliness…

It can help you drift off to sleep on a sleepless night…

Give moments of freedom to someone in prison…

A pleasant memory can even relieve stress…

Get you through a tense moment…

Help you relive ‘the good ole days’.

Have you ever noticed how a favorite song from the past can make that memory seem so much more vivid. It can actually ‘take you back’?

Most importantly… a good memory is that it can help you replace a bad one. We can’t think of two different things at the same time.

Manage your memories wisely, and never take for granted the power of a beautiful memory.

Never take for granted the power of a beautiful memory.

Notice how a good memory of worshiping in the house of God sustains the Psalmist…

Psalm 42 (NKJV)

As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God.
My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?[b]
My tears have been my food day and night,
While they continually say to me,
“Where is your God?”

When I remember these things,
I pour out my soul within me.
For I used to go with the multitude;
I went with them to the house of God,
With the voice of joy and praise,
With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.

Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?

Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.[c]

O my God,[d] my soul is cast down within me;
Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan,
And from the heights of Hermon,
From the Hill Mizar.
Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
And in the night His song shall be with me—
A prayer to the God of my life.

I will say to God my Rock,
“Why have You forgotten me?
Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
10 As with a breaking of my bones,
My enemies reproach me,
While they say to me all day long,
“Where is your God?”

11 Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.

God bless you! I'm a husband, father and ordained Minister since 1996. I serve as an Associate Minister at Oak Spring Church Arlington TN, a suburb of Memphis. I'm a professional Copywriter for a Fortune 500 company, published Gospel songwriter and owner of an independent label, Al-Go-Rhythm Music. My main spiritual gift is Exhortation...I'm a natural encourager. I love the word of God and sharing it from a "Wow, I never thought of it like that before" perspective. There's so much fresh revelation in God's word that is just as relevant today as it was as it unfolded. I hope my daily devotionals enhance your walk with God, taking you beyond BLESSED to BLESSTIFIED.
