We were created in God’s image, which is less about how He looks and more about how He is.
We can have His character…
We can experience His emotions…
We can share in His divine nature…
2 Peter 1:4 (NKJV)
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the [a]corruption that is in the world through lust.
The fact is that not only did we inherit our ability to LOVE from God, but we also got our ability to HATE from Him.
God hates sin…
The two emotions are two of GOD’S TANGIBLE INTANGIBLES… that have an extreme influence in our lives. When you think about it, both love and hate share one powerful influence over our lives.
Both LOVE and HATE force us to surrender control of our emotions to someone else.
When you truly love someone, or hate (or strongly dislike) you make yourself vulnerable to allow their behavior to be a steering wheel, or thermometer to your emotions…your joy, anger, frustration, happiness, rage, etc.
Think about it, the reason we either experience so much joy or pain from those closest to us is because we love them. Our closest relationships are a rollercoaster of emotions. It’s only apathy that leaves us emotionless.
Just like God.
Numbers 25:3 (NKJV)
3 So Israel was joined to Baal of Peor, and the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel.
Matthew 3:17 (NKJV)
17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Genesis 4:3-5 (ERV)
3-4 At harvest time,[a] Cain brought a gift to the Lord. He brought some of the food that he grew from the ground, but Abel brought some animals from his flock. He chose some of his best sheep and brought the best parts from them.[b]
The Lord accepted Abel and his gift. 5 But he did not accept Cain and his offering. Cain was sad because of this, and he became very angry.
There’s a reason why we hurt those we love the most.
“If you aren’t LOVING HARD, you’re HARDLY LOVING.”
