I would like to know your opinion about something. Some people believe that the Matthew 6:12 verse, “forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” means that we are to forgive in exactly the same way God forgives. God forgives us when we repent. If we do not repent, then we are not forgiven by Him, right? I read a book awhile back — I believe the title is Unpacking Forgiveness — in which the author basically states that, because we are to forgive AS God forgives, this means we should not forgive unless the person who wronged us, has truly repented.
I honestly don’t know what to think about all of that. I prefer to just forgive and move on, and leave the matter of their repentance between them and God. This works a lot better for me than staying angry, especially in light of the many grievous sins that I have been redeemed from. What is your opinion?
