Isn’t it interesting what Jesus prayed for in The Lord’s Prayer? I’m not talking about The Model Prayer in Matthew 6, but the prayer Jesus prayed just before He was betrayed in John 17. First He prayed for Himself in verses 1- 5…Then He prayed for His disciples in verses 6-19, and finally in verses 20-26 He prayed for “those who will believe in Him through their words”…that’s all believers – us!

In verses 20-23, Jesus says, 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.” Notice how many time Jesus said, “one”! Jesus prayer was for AGREEMENT ! Jesus is about to be betrayed and endure the pain and shame of the cross – and He prayed for AGREEMENT.

Because just as there are physical laws like gravity, there are spiritual laws like SOWING & REAPING and AGREEMENT. The fact is there is power in AGREEMENT whether people are agreeing on good or evil. Think about what the book of John says in 1 John 5:7 “For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one”. But also take notice what God did in the book of Genesis when they attempted to build the Tower of Babel through AGREEMENT. Think of the atrocities that Adolf Hitler was able to get millions to consent to through AGREEMENT. Even demons, once they find a ‘comfortable’ host will go and get others, some more evil than themselves (Matthew 12:43-45). That’s why Jesus established THE FAMILY and THE CHURCH. Jesus knew that the church could not grow unless his disciples agreed. There are several reminders in the epistles to ‘be of one mind’ ‘to speak the same thing’ and ‘to let there be no divisions among you’.

One of the enemies most common and successful tactics is to convince people to disagree. In marriages, families, churches, organizations, nations…while at the same time convincing those pursuing his evil agenda to agree. Notice how the gay movement has gained incredible momentum and accomplished such gains because those in that movement have agreed. There is no black, white, rich, poor, high or low class…while Christians are divided about doctrine, how to worship, when to worship and so on and so on. It’s God’s will that we agree in Him and in one another. We are encouraged to make supplications to God (specific prayers).

Let one of your DAILY specific prayers be for AGREEMENT. Use the language Jesus uses in John 17 20-29. Pray that God give you His spirit of agreement with Him, in your marriage, in your family, in your home, in your church…then make every effort to walk in agreement. My wife of 29 years and I began praying for AGREEMENT a few years ago and are witnesses to it’s power. I encourage you to do the same. I guarantee that you will witness the power of AGREEMENT too…because it’s a spiritual law, it’s God’s will, God’s promise and He can’t lie! #powerofagreement

John 17:20—23 (NIV)

20 “My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one— 23 I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity.

Amos 3:3 (NKJV) “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”
