WHY COUNSELORS NEED COUNSELING TOO…

Luke 4:23 (NKJV)

23 He said to them, “You will surely say this proverb to Me, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum,[a] do also here in Your country.’ ”

This piece is not meant to speak against counseling but to serve as a reminder.

Physicians don’t always have perfect health.

Lawyers have legal problems.

Mechanics have car trouble.

Police break the law.

Preachers sin.

And counselors sometimes need counseling too!

Some of the time when you’re pouring out your heart to a mental health professional, they are reflecting on their own…

Parenting problems…

Marital problems…

Spiritual problems…

Financial problems…

Health problems…

Stresses…

Anxieties…

Depression…

Addictions…

Convictions!

Just like everyone else they are professional men and women, who have their own issues.

However, just like a…

Doctor…

Mechanic…

Attorney…

Police officer…

Or, Pastor…their problems don’t disqualify them from helping you.

Think about this biblical example. God used King Solomon, the most wise man who ever lived, to tell us…

Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)

Train up a child in the way he should go,
[a]And when he is old he will not depart from it.

But, after Solomon was old, he allowed pleasing his many wives to come between him and God…

1 Kings 11:4 (NKJV)

For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not [a]loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David.

But, Solomon’s failure at taking his own God-given advice does not negate one word of wisdom He was led by God to write.

God always has and always will used imperfect men and women to fulfill His perfect will.
