Even those who don’t believe in God have heard of it. The mark of the beast. The ‘mark’ that many will submit to showing that they have rejected Christ and accepted the antichrist.
Revelation 13:16 (KJV)

Hmmm. Good point about the internal meaning of the mark though I am still pretty convinced it will have an external aspect also.
