How many times have you said it? How many times have you heard your children say it…

I’m bored!

There’s nothing to do!

We live in a world full of options and opportunities competing for our time and attention, but still we will find moments to whine… “I’m bored!”

Well, I’ve got good news for the next time you feel bored!

God has a GUARANTEED cure for boredom…it’s called SERVING OTHERS!

For those of us who believe in God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, there is no excuse to ever say we are bored.

God has a world full of opportunities, and He has commanded that we find ourselves serving others and doing good.

Matthew 23:11 (NKJV)

11 But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.

 Mark 10:45 (NKJV)

45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

 Galatians 6:10 (NKJV)

10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

 John 3:17 (NKJV)

17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

 Matthew 25:31-40 (NKJV)

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy[c] angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

Jesus said very clearly, that when we share His love by serving others, that we are actually not just doing it FOR Him but we are doing it To Him – When we serve others…we’re serving Him.

So, no matter what your personality…

No matter what you like to do…

God has opportunities that will cure your boredom.

Serving others is

Rewarding…both here and in the world to come.

But, it’s never boring.

The next time your children are bored, find an opportunity to serve that aligns with their interests. Begin instilling within them the value and importance of serving others.

You could even take them to play games with a sick child in a children’s hospital…at a children’s home.

We teach them the value in education,  a good work ethic, being a good citizen…why not teach them the often overlooked requirement that God has for all of us…

Serving others.
