YOU CAN STOP TODAY IF YOU REALLY WANT TO…#encouragent
YOU DON’T HAVE TO…
You don’t have to gain one more pound…
You don’t have to give away your body…
You don’t have to make one more charge…
Watch one more obscene video…
Make/answer one more call from ‘them’…
Sent or open one more text from ‘him or her’
Open one more email…
Send one more pic…
Take one more drink…
Smoke one more cigarette…
Curse one more time…
Waste any more energy…
Waste any more time…
Cheat one more time…
Spread one more rumor…
Start one more fight…
Make one more frivolous purchase…
Insult, backstab or undermine one more person…
Quit one more job…
Be in one more clique…
Hold one more grudge…
Do ‘IT’ one more time (you know what you ‘IT’ is)…
God has given you the power and responsibility to stop today if you want to.
Philippians 4:13 (NKJV)
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Colossians 3:8 (NKJV)
But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
Ephesians 4:31
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
He has given you the tools to do it…
Matthew 17:20-21
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;[d] for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”
Has anyone ever come to you telling you that God told them to tell you something?
In 1st Kings the 13th Chapter, a man of God, was given a message to deliver to King Jeroboam and he was instructed by God that he was to NOT, eat bread, drink water, nor return by the same way he came. After delivering the bad news as instructed, the king invited the man of God to come home with him and refresh himself. The man of God obediently refused.
After leaving, the man of God encountered ANOTHER man of God, an old prophet, who invited him to come home with him and eat bread. Again, the first man of God told him that God had instructed him that he wasn’t to do so…But the old prophet said, “I too am a prophet, and an angel spoke to me and told me differently, but he was lying.
The first man of God, listened to the old prophet, went home with him and did just what God had told him NOT to do. To give us an example of His anger for his disobedience, God allowed the first man of God to be killed by a lion as he returned home.
1 KINGS 13:14-18
14 and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to him, “Are you the man of God who came from Judah?”And he said, “I am.”15 Then he said to him, “Come home with me and eat bread.”16 And he said, “I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place. 17 For I have been told by the word of the Lord, ‘You shall not eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by going the way you came.’”18 He said to him, “I too am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, ‘Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” (He was lying to him.)
Many times, people will come to you claiming God told them to tell you something. Yes, God can use others for confirmation and revelation, but we must use discernment. God won’t use anyone else to tell you something contrary to what He has said in His word, or what He has already placed and confirmed in your heart.
Pray for discernment. Pray for wisdom. Because even people who mean well can sometimes tell you something contrary to God’s will is FOR YOU. Remember Peter…
Matthew 16:22-23 (NKJV)
22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Peter meant well, but Jesus knew His purpose and realized that any deviation or diversion from it was not of the Father, but of the enemy.
Sometimes family members, friends and even ministers can give you some well-intended advice, insight, or ‘revelation’ from God.
The enemy sometimes disguises himself as an angel of light in order to deceive us…2
Corinthians 11:14 (NKJV)
14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.
God the Father sent His Spirit in the form of a dove to confirm who the Messiah was, partly so no one else could come along claiming it is someone else…
Luke 3:22 (NKJV)
22 And the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form like a dove upon Him, and a voice came from heaven which said, “You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased.”
Please, pray for discernment, and don’t listen to a PIGEON sent by the enemy instead of a DOVE from God.
GOD SOMETIMES DESCRIBED HIMSELF ANTHROPOMORPHICALLY TO HELP US RELATE TO HIM…
God is a Spirit…
John 4:24 (NKJV)
24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
God is invisible…
1 John 4:12 (NKJV)
12 No one has seen God at any time.
God is not male or female…
Numbers 23:19 (NKJV)
19 “God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent.
God does not have a face, hands, feet, arms, legs, a mouth, a heart or a brain…
God doesn’t breath…
He is a Spirit.
He’s 100% God.
The earth and universe cannot contain Him.
1 Kings 8:27 (NKJV)
27 “But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain You. How much less this temple which I have built!
He does not need time…He is outside of time…He is eternal.
Jesus is THE image of and represents the invisible God bodily.
Colossians 1:15 (NKJV)
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Colossians 2:9 (NKJV)
9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
He was there in the beginning. Elohim is a plural noun.
Genesis 1:26 (NKJV)
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;
He appeared several times before He took the form of the Son of God…Mary’s son.
Daniel 3:25 (NKJV)
25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”
He took on the form of sinful flesh, using a body as a male.
Romans 8:3 (NKJV)
3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,
He is 100% God and was 100% man.
Philippians 2:6 (NKJV)
6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,
He and Yahweh (God) are ONE (Elohim).
Angels are Spiritual beings that minister to God and to saints.
Hebrews 1:14 (NKJV)
14 Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?
They occupy different celestial bodies, but can take human form.
Isaiah 6:2 (NKJV)
2 Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
They are neither male nor female…just like God.
When they take human form, they HAVE to use a male or female body.
Hebrews 13:2 (NKJV)
2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels
Your spirit/soul/essence/consciousness, or however you want to say it, is invisible.
You can’t see it.
He places it in a male or female body.
Genesis 5:2 (NKJV)
2 He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created.
We are placed within time, for now.
You are 100% spirit and 100% human, for now.
You can be a father or mother, son or daughter, brother or sister, manager or subordinate…all at the same time, yet be one person.
You as a father won’t relate to others in the same authority as you do as a brother, or a boss, or a coach, or a preacher. Each ‘person’ within you has a different authority, but you’re still one person.
Because we are 100% spirit and 100% human…
Aren’t we mind, body and spirit?
Because we have several authorities, or ‘persons’ within us, yet remain one person…
THEN…
It shouldn’t be so hard to understand that the authorities in ONE God can be ONE.
‘Trinity’ is just a word used to describe the essence of God.
He is not three God’s; He is one, just as we are person…
That’s what it means when He made us in His image. Not that we physically look like Him, but that we can have His essence. That we can communicate with Him. That we can feel as He feels, and LOVE as He loves.
God sometimes describes Himself to us anthropomorphically (ascribing human characteristics) for our benefit, to help us relate to Him…to help us understand Him.
The more we understand God, the easier it is for us love Him and help explain Him to others.
BE BLESSTIFIED!
If this blesses you, please share it with someone else whom you feel it will bless.
Doors. They provide access. They allow us to enter one environment while at the same time exit another. When closed, they keep things in and keep things out. We all want God to open doors for us to better things. We may even pray for God to open doors for us. Doors lead to the things we desire…
One day a man had to hurry in the bank before he picked up his daughter from school. He didn’t go to the bank his normal bank location because he decided to stop at the one closest to his daughter’s school. At 2:45 as he pulled up and read the sign on the door that said, “Open 8:30 – 5:00”. He pulled to open the door, and it was locked. He pulled again, and again. As he looked through the glass and through the lobby he could see the tellers behind…
Don’t let any of your BLESSINGS take the place of GOD, who gave them to you.
Make sure it came from GOD, because if it didn’t, no matter how GOOD IT FEELS…it isn’t a blessing, but a CURSE IN CAMO!!!
If she is crazy about you, but she’s not your wife, that’s not a blessing..
If that dream job prevents you from worshipping, or causes you to compromise your values…it isn’t a blessing.
If your gain comes at someones else’s unintended loss…then it may not be a blessing.
The devil doesn’t mind helping making things that aren’t good for you look like blessings. Remember…
2 Corinthians 11:14 tells us,
“And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”
Don’t let the devil fool you, the old cliché is true…just because it looks good doesn’t mean that it’s good for you.
The devil doesn’t mind you having good fortune, if that good fortune leads you away from God rather than to Him.
AND…
God doesn’t mind you having bad fortune, if that bad fortune draws you nearer to Him.
James 1:17
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
So many people today feel there is such strength in, TELLING IT LIKE IT IS…GIVING THEM A PIECE OF YOUR MIND…or, KEEPING IT REAL!
Yes, there are times when that has its place, but there’s also great strength, dignity and maturity in keeping some things to yourself.
When the angel appeared to Mary to let her know that she had conceived of the Holy Spirit, and what was going to come to pass…she kept it to herself. She knew some people wouldn’t believe her, she knew some people wouldn’t understand, she knew it wasn’t time.
Luke 2:19(NKJV)
But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart.
You don’t have to tell them how pissed off you are…
You don’t have to be the first one to share bad news…
You don’t have to tell them how attracted you are to them (especially if you’re already married)…
You don’t have to tell them how wrong you think they are…
You don’t have to tell them what someone said about them…
We need to stop and think of the immediate and long-term results of sharing what we feel we must say…especially if we are ‘in our emotions’ (anger, lust, disgust, jealousy, fear, sadness, envy, shame, etc…)
Remember what Proverbs says…
Proverbs 17:9 (NKJV)
He who covers a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates friends.
Even God Himself doesn’t reveal some information to us until we’re ready for it, in other words…He leaves some things unsaid for a season.
1 Peter 1:10 (NKJV)
Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you,
Right now, stop and ask God for wisdom and discernment of…
Many times we encourage one another by saying, “You can do anything you set your mind to do, as long as you have faith.”
Yes, it’s true that through God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26), because God can do anything He chooses through anyone He chooses.
BUT…
Some the things that you want to do, even for God, it may not be His will for YOU to do them.
You may have a desire to have a virgin birth, and yes with God it’s possible, but that doesn’t mean it’s His will for you to do it.
David had a desire to build a house for God, but God told Him it was His will for his son Solomon to build it…
1 Chronicles 22:7-8
7 And David said to Solomon: “My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build a house to the name of the Lord my God; 8 but the word of the Lord came to me, saying, ‘You have shed much blood and have made great wars; you shall not build a house for My name, because you have shed much blood on the earth in My sight. It is our responsibility to find out what God’s will is for us and the things He would have us do…but how do you know?
Ephesians 5:12 tells us to “find out what’s acceptable to the Lord.”
Proverbs 3:4-5 tells us Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Be sensitive to His Spirit and where He is leading you. In Acts 16 the Holy Spirit prevented the apostles from going some places that they desired to go preach.
“6 Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. 7 After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.”
God has a will and purpose for each of His children, and we must pray for wisdom, understanding, discernment and revelation for God to show us those things He would have us to do.
I pray in the name of Jesus, Yeshua, that God reveals to you your purpose and your path.
Psalm 144:1 “Blessed be the Lord my Rock, Who trains my hands for war, And my fingers to do battle”
Men and women of God, TODAY IS TRAINING DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! God is training you for spiritual warfare (Ephesians 6:12). Today is another opportunity to get familiar with and get better at using your weapons (Ephesians 6:10-18).
You will be confronted with situations and challenges that will determine not only your future, but the future of those you love and the future of your fruit, you know, those who God assigns to you along the way.
Just like in the movie starring Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke, the new detective (Ethan Hawke) was assigned to a veteran detective (Denzel Washington) for training. The new detective had a good heart, but he was confronted with and partnered with the devil (Denzel) on his first day…
Be careful when you feel you’re alone. When there are no other people around. When you think no one is watching or listening…
Watch what you do…
what you watch…
what you say…
watch where you go.
Wrong is still wrong when we’re alone.
It’s wrong to curse or use vulgar language when we’re alone.
It’s still wrong to watch or listen to evil things when we’re alone.
It’s still wrong to get drunk or high even when we’re by ourselves.
Have you ever heard anyone say. “I’m not hurting anyone but myself? Many times when people sin alone they aren’t as concerned because no one else can see or hear then…but can they?
Hebrews 1:14 and Matthew 18:14 remind us we all have angels watching us…
Hebrews 1:14 (NKJV)
Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?
Matthew 18:10 (NKJV)
Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven.
…Ministering to us, and communicating to God on our behalf. This is an awesome benefit of our relationship with God to have our own private… bodyguards…security and messengers, but remember they are also there during our darkest moments…watching, sometimes even trying to influence us to stop.
What things has your angel had to watch you do?
Remember…we’re never alone.
Psalm 139:7-12 (NKJV)
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? 8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, 10 Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall[a] on me,” Even the night shall be light about me; 12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
John 6:30 So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?”
The Pharisees, Scribes, and skeptics continually asked Jesus for a sign, when totally ignoring all of the miracles that He performed.
The fact is that they had signs all around them and refused to see them, in fact they couldn’t see them because their hearts were hard.
The story is the same today.
People say that they don’t believe in God because they can’t see Him. People want an EXPLANATION FOR GOD. They want physical evidence of God.
Jesus told Nicodemus…
John 3:8
“The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
People feel they don’t need an explanation for the…
Most of us are very busy, with many responsibilities pulling us many different ways, but God is good and has given us many means to sustain our lives. He has given us…
JOBS to sustain us financially…
FAMILIES to sustain us emotionally and with love and support…
Assemblies of The Most High to help sustain us spiritually…
But if we aren’t careful, we can allow the things that are MEANT TO SUSTAIN OUR LIVES DRAIN THE LIFE OUT OF US. WORK/CAREER…
God has blessed us with jobs and careers to earn the money to provide for ourselves and our families. It is God’s will that we all work, as the bible says that anyone who doesn’t work shouldn’t eat (2Thessalonians 3:10). We must be very careful however to not allow our jobs and careers drain the life out of us. Yes, jobs can be demanding physically, emotionally and spiritually. We have to deal with coworkers, bosses and customers that take our patience to the edge. I know sometimes we have to work extended hours…but some choose to do so because they either want more material things or have obligated themselves with more. Not all ‘deadbeat parents’ live away from their children. Many neglect quality time with their family when they don’t have to do so. Many compromise their respect, values and sometimes Christian character trying to get promoted and ‘climb the ladder”. Many come home from work depleted, grumpy wanting to be left alone with no energy left for anything else. FAMILY…
Families are a blessing (Psalm 68:6), meant to enrich our lives and to be the foundation of the Body of Christ, but sometimes the demands of family can drain us also. The stress of responsibilities, managing relationships, family rivalries, trying to be everything to everyone can drain us too. Home should be a place of peach and not drama. Sometimes we can bring stresses that originated outside the home, inside the home. It’s important to spend quality time with one another, but it’s also necessary to spend some quality, peaceful moments alone with just you and God, so that our family life doesn’t drain us. CHURCH…
Yes we must even be responsible in how we allocate our WORSHIP/REST to be obedient. It is very clear that God intends for His family to fellowship together, worship together and most of all, work together for His Kingdom. He told us clearly in Hebrews 10:25 that we aren’t to forsake assembling together. However, some people have ‘established their own righteousness’ by staying in church ALL DAY LONG. Some have established a church culture going to church school early in the morning, then they have worship service which is GOOD AND SUFFICIENT…but they then regularly have another service and/or rush or rush to visit another church for an afternoon service and sometimes have an evening service later. They then start their work weeks TIRED AND DRAINED because they worshiped and had fellowship but did not rest TOO as commanded. God COMMANDED THAT WE WORSHIP AND REST. If we don’t get rest we are being disobedient. We are to refresh ourselves so we can have energy to work and do Kingdom work during the week. Yes, there is the example of Paul preaching all night in Acts Chapter 20 but that wasn’t the norm, he did that because he planned to leave the next day. God intends for church to REFRESH AND ENRICH us, not drain us.
God intends for our lives to have BALANCE…don’t allow what’s meant to SUSTAIN YOUR LIFE…DRAIN YOUR LIFE.
We know that Peter denied Christ, but that wasn’t the only sin he committed. Peter committed many other sins, but we don’t know what they were. God allowed them to remain secret.
Every personality God used in the bible committed some sins that God allowed to remain secret. Yes, we are supposed to confess our faults to one another (James 5:16), but that doesn’t mean you have to tell ALL of your business in every detail. Some people will compel you to do so, not out of concern for you, but to satisfy their curiosity. Yes, some people are just nosey. There are some things that you have done, and truly repented, that no one knows about. You may have squandered money or relationships in your past, but now you aren’t that person anymore. You may have struggled with depression to the point you considered suicide, but you’re…
It’s amazing how people will ALLOW a coach to ‘cuss’ their children…how they expect a drill Sargeant to sternly say anything get the best out of a soldier…but get pissed off at the preacher for a raised, or using sharp words to reprove and rebuke…
2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV)
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine
To REPROVE is to disapprove, to chide to the face as worthy of blame, to expose, to convict.
To REBUKE is to reprimand, strongly warn, restrain.
EXHORTATION is encouragement..
Those who believe the word of God and accept the authority and hierarchy in the church understand what God expects of a Pastor.
Jesus, Yeshua, Himself spoke strong words to the religious leaders, those who were closest to Him, and those who rejected Him…
Hypocrites…( Matthew 15, Matthew 23)
Perverted…(Matthew 17)
Brood of vipers…(Matthew 12, Matthew 23)
Foolish…(Luke 24)
White-washed tombs…(Matthew 23)
And most offensive of all, He called them BASTARDS…
John 8:37-45 (NKJV)
37 “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38 I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with[l] your father.”
39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.”
Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham. 40 But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this. 41 You do the deeds of your father.”
Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father—God.”
42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.
Read all of John 8 for context. They got so angry at Jesus that they took up stones to kill Him.
After calling the Pharisees hypocrites, the disciples told Jesus…
Matthew 15:12 (NKJV)
12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”
Remember, Jesus’ rebukes were not just for the hypocritical religious leaders, but also for those closest to Him as in Matthew 17:17.
We must be reminded that love isn’t always delicate, sugary sweet words, warm feelings and heavenly promises…sometimes it’s a reminder of Hell.
When a parent disciplines or gives a child strong correction, it doesn’t mean he or she doesn’t love them.
God will hold the preacher accountable when the people aren’t warned about sin, which sometimes applies to the preacher too.
Ezekial 33: 1-9 (NASB)
And the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 2 “Son of man, speak to the sons of your people and say to them, ‘If I bring a sword upon a land, and the people of the land take one man from among them and make him their watchman, 3 and he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows on the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then he who hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, and a sword comes and takes him away, his blood will be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet but did not take warning; his blood will be on himself. But had he taken warning, he would have delivered his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet and the people are not warned, and a sword comes and takes a person from them, he is taken away [a]in his iniquity; but his blood I will require from the watchman’s hand.’
7 “Now as for you, son of man, I have [b]appointed you a watchman for the house of Israel; so you will hear a [c]message from My mouth and give them warning from Me. 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require from your hand. 9 But if you on your part warn a wicked man to turn from his way and he does not turn from his way, he will die in his iniquity, but you have delivered your life.
And, warning people about sin isn’t judging, warning isn’t condemnation, it’s helping the hearers avoid condemnation.
Let us all listen with spiritual ears, when we hear words of correction, and always measure it against the word of God and not our feelings.
Early in His ministry, Jesus was confronted by the enemy as recorded in Matthew 4:1-11, He was confronted/attacked while His FLESH was weakest. He had been fasting for 40 days. The enemy tried to catch Jesus in His flesh’s most vulnerable state. But, even though Jesus’ flesh was weak, His will was strong. Jesus knows us, and He knows our flesh gets weak too, that’s why He encourages us…
Matthew 6:24
“Watch and pray, that you enter not into temptation: the SPIRIT indeed is WILLING, but the FLESH is WEAK”.
Even though Jesus’ flesh was weak, His Spirit and resolve was still willing and strong. Why? Because He fought off the enemy’s attack with the WORD OF GOD. The word of God is our most powerful weapon against the enemy.
2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the…
TOUGH LOVE. We want to make sure we aren’t ENABLING their dysfunction. We can’t let the dysfunction and evil of some bring us down with them…can’t let their issues infect our home. Many times we’ll say, you have to let some people hit ROCK BOTTOM as the PRODIGAL SON (Luke 15:11-32) did and COME TO THEMSELVES. But we must pray for wisdom and discernment and realize that the ROCK BOTTOM scenario may be a case-by-case basis.
Some people are STRONGER IN THEIR WEAKNESSES than others. For every PRODIGAL who CAME TO THEMSELVES, there are also those who never did.
ROCK BOTTOM didn’t shock them to their senses.
ROCK BOTTOM wasn’t a wake up call.
ROCK BOTTOM didn’t turn them around.
Everyone may not be equipped to handle ROCK BOTTOM.
Do you know anyone who died out there in their HOG PEN?
We must pray for wisdom and discernment when dealing…
Isn’t it interesting what Jesus prayed for in The Lord’s Prayer? I’m not talking about The Model Prayer in Matthew 6, but the prayer Jesus prayed just before He was betrayed in John 17. First He prayed for Himself in verses 1- 5…Then He prayed for His disciples in verses 6-19, and finally in verses 20-26 He prayed for “those who will believe in Him through their words”…that’s all believers – us!
In verses 20-23, Jesus says, 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one…
As gradual as it happens, it still can sometimes seem sudden. We slowly see ourselves moving into the roles of those who were older than us. As one generation moves on, another generation takes its place. We see ourselves begin to look like our parents or our grandparents, we may even remember when they were our age.
What’s important to us and our values begin to change… well at least they should.
I encourage everyone to value the blessing of getting older and to and embrace your new role in your family, in your church and in society.
Getting older is a blessing!
It should represent experience, wisdom and respect. Don’t let the way our Western culture’s glorification of youth, and lack of respect for getting older make you a person who doesn’t know how to embrace their age and role.
There are too many people in their twenties trying to be teenagers…
Too many thirty-somethings acting as if they’re college age…
Too many in their forties and fifties acting half their age…
And even senior citizens trying to show how ‘hip’ they are and that they ‘still got it’.
If you’re a parent…act like it.
If you’re a grandparent…act like it.
Be young at heart, but mature in mind…
Stay active, have fun, try to always look your best for your age, but make sure it’s appropriate for your age.
Ease into your next role in life with grace.
PROVERBS 16:31 A gray head is a crown of glory; It is found in the way of righteousness
INFIDELITY…It’s the universal act of betrayal that many, if not most, find it difficult to come back from. No matter what country, religion or culture, infidelity marks the end of many relationships. It’s viewed as the ultimate proof that love is lost.
However, the ability to come back from infidelity may be the ultimate proof of real love. How can I say that?
Because marriage is the analogy that God uses throughout the bible, not only to describe His relationship with Israel in Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Joel, Isaiah and Hosea, but also Christ’s (who represents the invisible God bodily) relationship with His church in Colossians, Ephesians and Revelations. All of the aforementioned, Old Testament books are stories of Israel continually betraying God, only to have Him continually forgive them and take them back.
Israel loved God… but they continued to choose other God’s over Him.
One of the keys to having inner PEACE is understanding and accepting the fact that God never promised that life on this earth would be fair. The fact that God told us that we shouldn’t fret because evildoers will prosper let’s us know that life isn’t fair ( Psalm 37:1).
The fact that God told us that it has been given to us to not only believe, but to suffer for the sake of Christ ( Philippians 1:29) implies that life isn’t fair.
It’s not fair that some are born rich and others in deep poverty.
It’s not fair that children get sick, suffer and die.
It’s not fair that some horrible parents have several children while some potential great parents are unable to have any.
It’s not fair that some people were born into generations of slavery while others squander their freedom.
Let’s take for example sick children. Notice in the bible how David’s first child by Bathsheeba died because of his sin in 2 Samuel 12.
Notice in Mark 9 and Matthew 17 how a man’s son was possessed by a demon since he was a child.
Notice in John Chapter 9 how a man was born blind and spent most of his life blind until healed by Jesus. Notice in Matthew 9 Jairus’ daughter died, but was resurrected by Jesus.
Now those that Jesus healed had been sick, possessed or died for the sole purpose that God could be glorified through their healing, deliverance and resurrection.
The truth is I CAN’T EXPLAIN why David’s son died. There is much about why God does what He does that we can’t explain.
In fact, who are we to ask for an explanation?
When they continually asked Jesus for a sign, He said none would be given but the sign of the prophet Jonah (Matthew 16:4). The fact is, Jesus showed them numerous miracles and signs which they ignored, but they wanted a sign that would satisfy them. Jesus Himself pointed out in…
Luke 4:25-27
But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land; 26 but to none of them was Elijah sent except to Zarephath,in the region of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.”
God tells us in Romans 9:21 that the clay doesn’t question the potter.
Most of all it wasn’t fair that God had to send His only Son to suffer and die a shameful death for our sins. The truth is that life isn’t fair, there is much we won’t understand, and much we can’t understand with our limited human intelligence, as God told in…
Isaiah 55:8-9…8
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.
No one has all of the answers as to why God does what He does and allows what He allows, and don’t trust any ‘superspiritual’ person who claims to have all the answers.
The fact is, that after all things are considered, we must TRUST GOD.
He promised in…
Romans 8:28
All things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
We must understand and accept that even though God may not be FAIR by our standards that He is JUST by His.
Having you ever noticed a child throwing a temper tantrum when it doesn’t get something that it wants? This is a natural reaction that must be overcome as the child matures. The reaction is natural…innate…the child was born with it.
The truth is that we are all born with innate desires, feelings and proclivities that we did not ask for.
Many Christians reason to excuse some behavior by saying, “I or they was or were born this way”. This doesn’t meant that God made a mistake, but the scripture clearly reminds us that we were all born in sin…
Psalm 51:5 (NKJV)
Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
We were all born with desires we didn’t ask for…that doesn’t make them ALL okay. Just because it comes naturally doesn’t make right. Some natural desires we must resist with the help of the Holy Spirit…
Fornication…
Adultery…
Homosexuality…
Gluttony…
Greed…
Jealousy…
Envy…
Wrath …
…ALL come from natural desires and they are ALL equally wrong.
Even David, a man after God’s own heart was born with an insatiable desire for women…but that did not make it right or acceptable to God. Those who read the bible know what that led to.
Some people are naturally more greedy, more lustful, more promiscuous, more selfish, more aggressive, more violent that others…does that make it okay? For those who wish to argue these are learned behaviors, some people have these behaviors modeled and ‘learn’ them, while others witnessed these behaviors and didn’t succumb to them.
Pedophiles don’t feel they ‘choose’ to be attracted to children…does that make it okay? No!
The desires of our flesh war against our spirit…and these vary from person to person.
Galatians 5:17 (NKJV)
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
It is only by walking in the Fruit of the Spirit can we overcome our fleshly desires that displease God.
Galatians 5:16 (NKJV)
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:22,23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
That’s why fasting is so powerful. It is a tool we can use to bring our flesh into subjection, overcome our weaknesses and prove to ourselves that our desires won’t rule us. It’s our tool to move those mountains in our lives.
Matthew 17: 20-21
20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting
Use this as post ammunition when someone presents to you the argument, “I was born this way, so it can’t be wrong”.
Just because it’s natural, doesn’t mean it’s okay.
While teaching on divorce, Jesus defined marriage in Matthew 19:4-6 referring to Genesis 1:27, perfectly harmonizing Old and New Testament…
4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made[a] them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’[b] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?[c] 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
Godly marriage is clearly defined as being between a man and woman. Marriage is the first institution that God ordained after creation. Marriage is the foundation of the FAMILY, SOCIETY and the CHURCH.
Godly marriage, and its proper order are so dear to God that He uses as an analogy for His relationship with Israel (Ezekiel 16:1-63, Hosea 2:2-23, Isaiah 54:5), Christ’s relationship with the His church ( Ephesians 5:25-27, Revelations 19:7-9, 2 Corinthians 11:2, Revelations 21:2).
It is the example of God’s order and altering it is sin and rebellion against Him. It is also wrong to make unrighteous laws that condone sin (Isaiah 10:1).
What people do is their business, and between them and God, but making laws that condone sin opens the door for God’s wrath on the nation that accepts them.
Hatred and violence are not the weapons to fight the attack on the family. Too many Christians react in anger rather than love.
Name calling is not love, being mean-spirited and hurling insults is not love, and violence is definitely not love…
2 Corinthians 10:4-5
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ
…the weapons are the Fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”(Galations 5:22-23).
I must say this…This, however isn’t the only attack on marriage.
The enemy is also attacking marriage with adultery, abuse, irreconcilable differences, careers, selfishness etc., but no one is trying to make laws concerning these behaviors.
Fight for the family with weapons that help and change the heart…not hurt.
Abram (Abraham) was comfortable and doing well in a familiar land among his people (Genesis 12:1).
Paul was a Pharisee and well respected among the Jews (Philippians 3:5).
Peter, James and John were fishermen which was a very necessary profession (Luke 5:1-11).
Matthew was a tax collector, they were despised because that sometimes opened opportunities for dishonest gain.
The disciples had wives and families (Matthew 8:14, 1 Corinthians 9:5). When these men accepted their calling it affected their families, livelihoods professions and reputations. IT WASN’T A SMOOTH, EASY, OR CONVENIENT TRANSITION.
Yes, even though many ministers today encounter some opposition, most enjoy preaching to captive audiences that reward us with “amens”, but many times the disciples were blessed to get out of town alive. There are still many today that endure persecution and hardship in some parts of the world, may God bless them.
My point is that many of us want callings and ministries of convenience. We may know we have a calling on our lives but aren’t willing to make the sacrifices that go along with it.
Our transitions into our calling may not be smooth. We may have to give up a lucrative career. We may have to move on from a familiar comfortable place (go from the land of your fathers to a place I will show you (Genesis 12:1).
People may murmur about you and say you are crazy, naive, foolish…
Not just people who don’t matter, but people who do matter may not understand. But, sometimes that’s what it takes to pursue your purpose in God.
An inconvenient transition requires more faith. The great men and women of God had to step out on faith…and so will we. Pray for wisdom, discernment and guidance because sometimes, not always, but sometimes, we have to step from COMFORT into our CALLING.
It’s a blessing to live to see another year. There are many who were here this time last year who aren’t today. The same will be true next year…
This year…
Next year…
Today…
Yesterday…
Morning…
Evening…
AM…
PM…
This week…
New Years Day…
Gregorian calendar…
Jewish calendar…
Chinese New Year…
What time is it?
What day is it?
TIME!
What is time? A progression? A continuum? Past? Present? Future?
There’s never actually a NOW…by the time you stop to notice it..it’s THEN.
Tomorrow is always in the future, and yesterday always in the past.
We only have THE MOMENT. Life is a perpetual MOMENT.
God gave us TIME to measure the perpetual moments.
Our time is based on how the earth revolves around our sun.
God exists outside of time.
2 Peter 3:8New King James Version (NKJV)
8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
God has given us a glimpse of living outside of time on this earth. We don’t notice the time that transpired after a goooood night’s sleep….after being placed under anesthesia…even after a coma.
Every New Year…
Every New Day…
Every New Hour is a gift from God to make things right. He expects us to make the most of all our moments…
Ephesians 5:15-18 (NKJV)
15 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, 16 redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
Have you ever had a day that went so well, that you wished that MOMENT could last forever? If you accept Jesus Christ, Yeshua, as Lord and Savior it will.
When we live forever with God…time will be now more, but the MOMENT will last forever.
Eternity is an everlasting MOMENT not defined by time.
Philippians 3:13 (NIV) “Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,”
Forgetting the past…We are encouraged that in order to move forward that we must forget the past…but how? It’s impossible to not think of things that hurt us? shameful things we did? painful days? Some of those things, when we’re honest with ourselves, we will always remember. So, why does Paul say, “forgetting the past?” How can you say you will never look back again? The key isn’t in not remembering, but how you remember. It’s not in not looking back, but why you look back.
It’s your frame of mind. Remember Lot’s wife? God allowed Lots family to escape the destruction of Sodom, but was warned to not look back. (Genesis 19:17). They were leaving…
“It is He who sits above the circle of the earth…” Isaiah 40:22
One of the most used pieces of ammunition by those who don’t believe in God is – “the bible is written from the perspective that the world is flat” They look at quotes like, “Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?” from the latter part of Isaiah 40:21 and reason, how could God inspire someone to write words for Him while believing the world is flat? Wouldn’t God allow all of those who are anointed by Him to fully understand all the truths of His creation?
It’s amazing how we allow education to prevent, cripple or extinguish faith in God. Especially science, astronomy and medicine. The more that God allows people to discover, the more people say God is not there. That man created God to explain what they did not understand.
Check out what 1 Corinthians 1: 18-31 and 1 Corinthians 2:13 says…
1 Corinthians 1:18-31
18 For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written:
“I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.”[a]
20 Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. 22 For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, 24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— 31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 2:13
13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Now after reading those verses…go back to Isaiah 40. Consider this, the verse immediately after the one speaking of ‘the foundations of the earth’ states…
Isaiah 40:22
“It is He who sits above the circle of the earth…”
Wow! “Sits above the circle of the earth”. I’m no whiz in geometry, but the last time I checked a circle was ROUND. Wow, for those who are skeptical, here’s real bible evidence of knowledge that the earth was round in the what we call the late bronze to early iron age. Our God is awesome!!!
Now dig this…God is a God of order. He has always allowed different things to occur during different dispensations of time. Some find it hard to believe that people lived for hundreds of years as stated in Genesis. While, if you were living then, you would find it hard to believe that people would be able to travel by air hundreds of miles in a matter of hours.
As much as we think we know right now, with our educated selves, there is still more about the earth and universe that we DON’T know than that we DO know.
There is still so much we don’t know. So much we have not discovered. And, some things we may never discover.
If Jesus delays His return, future generations will look at our knowledge now that think that we were primitive in what we knew.
There is still so much our modern, contemporary, civilized selves haven’t overcome…
War
Hatred
Racism
Disease
Poverty
Violence
Etc.
Etc.
Etc…
How dare us with our limited knowledge, come on God’s earth and through the little knowledge accumulated from others before us, we decide that there is no God? How foolish is that?
How would you like for someone to come into your house on a day and through observing one room out of many determine that you don’t live there?
Looking back at Isaiah 40…verse 21, ”the foundations of the earth” is in reference to time…from the beginning. One of the Hebrew words used for foundation in the Old Testament us Yasad…it means to establish, build up, to appoint or assign. It’s less about a literal foundation and more about establishing…beginning.
It’s speaking figuratively not literally. Much like today when we say ‘sunrise’ and ‘sunset’ fully knowing that the sun actually does neither.
Isaiah 40:22 is speaking of position and shape, ”above the circle of the earth”.
Use this as ammunition for when someone is critical of God’s existence due to what people knew thousands of years ago. And be very careful not to allow your education to weaken your faith.
Isaiah 40:21-23 (NKJV)
Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
Has it not been told you from the beginning?
Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is He who sits above the circle of the earth,
And its inhabitants are like grasshoppers,
Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain,
And spreads them out like a tent to dwell in. 23 He brings the princes to nothing;
He makes the judges of the earth useless.
Life on this earth is far from easy. It takes great effort and struggle just to stay alive. Think about it…
You have to eat and drink, not just every day, but several times a day to stay healthy.
About 71% of the earth is water and about 57% of the land is uninhabitable.
Many of the earth’s climates are not conducive to life with great extremes of heat and cold. Even the habitable climates require great effort for survival through proper clothing and shelter.
There’s a wide variety of storms and natural disasters with the potential to kill then give way to a beautiful day.
There are germs, invisible to the naked eye, all around us with the potential to wipe out millions.
Most wildlife can easily overcome any man.
Even our bodies must maintain the proper blood pressure, proper temperature, etc. with very little room for deviation.
Our hearts have to continue beating for us to continue living.
LIFE is fragile…frail…and uncertain. God created us to depend on Him. He is our keeper, He is our peace. Only HE sustains our lives!
He encourages us in…
Psalm 121:6,7
“The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil…”
Even though God gave man dominion over the earth, He created us to depend totally on Him.
Never begin the day without praying for His PROVISION, PROTECTION and POWER to make through the day, and STAY ALIVE in this hostile world.
Psalm 121 (NKJV) 121 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.
The fun and rush of the holiday season can be intoxicating. The trill of seeing someone open a gift that they really wanted can provide quite the emotional high. If this one done within our budget, then all is well but…THEN comes December 26th..
If we spent money we couldn’t afford…used money for our bills…borrowed money for gifts or simply over spent, we can come down hard off that high straight into anxiety, worry, buyers remorse, stress and even depression…You’ve got a HOLIDAY HANGOVER.
When the real world comes calling…we remember that bills, obligations and commitments didn’t stop for Christmas.
If you do have a holiday hangover, I offer the same remedy as for a hangover from alcohol…time.
And just as someone whose been drunk with liquor…next year remember how you feel right now when you’re tempted to drink from the same bottle of HOLIDAY SPIRITS next year.
Proverbs 23:29-35 (MSG)
Who are the people who are always crying the blues? Who do you know who reeks of self-pity?
Who keeps getting beat up for no reason at all? Whose eyes are bleary and bloodshot? It’s those who spend the night with a bottle, for whom drinking is serious business. Don’t judge wine by its label, or its bouquet, or its full-bodied flavor. Judge it rather by the hangover it leaves you with— the splitting headache, the queasy stomach. Do you really prefer seeing double, with your speech all slurred, Reeling and seasick, drunk as a sailor? “They hit me,” you’ll say, “but it didn’t hurt; they beat on me, but I didn’t feel a thing. When I’m sober enough to manage it, bring me another drink!”
