Sex is a gift from God. Even though it’s the means He intended for us to be fruitful and multiply, it is also meant to be enjoyed within the bonds of holy matrimony between a man and a woman.
Our bodies with their various curves, shapes, textures, contrast of colors, smells etc., are meant to provoke sexual arousal. It’s up to us to control these urges so that they are only fulfilled within marriage.
One of those divine combinations of curves, shapes, textures, and contrast of colors is the female breast.
Yes, these were created for mothers to make sure their children are nourished, but that’s not all.
They were also created for the mutual pleasure of the husband and the wife. Breasts were created:
As a means of seducing her husband…
For her pleasure during times of intimacy…
To be aesthetically pleasing to entice her husband…
For his enjoyment during times of intimacy…
The fact is that even though God created female breasts to nurse their children, that boobs aren’t just for the babies. Check out these bible verses about female breasts and intimacy within marriage.
Proverbs 5:18-19 (NKJV)
18 Let your fountain be blessed, And rejoice with the wife of your youth. 19 As a loving deer and a graceful doe, Let her breasts satisfy you at all times; And always be [a]enraptured with her love.
Song of Solomon 1:12-13 (NKJV)
12 While the king is at his table, My [a]spikenard sends forth its fragrance. 13 A bundle of myrrh is my beloved to me, That lies all night between my breasts.
Song of Solomon 4:4-5 (NKJV)
4 Your neck is like the tower of David, Built for an armory, On which hang a thousand [a]bucklers, All shields of mighty men. 5 Your two breasts are like two fawns, Twins of a gazelle, Which feed among the lilies
Song of Solomon 7:2-3, 8(NKJV)
2 Your navel is a rounded goblet; It lacks no [a]blended beverage. Your waist is a heap of wheat Set about with lilies. 3 Your two breasts are like two fawns, Twins of a gazelle.
Song of Solomon 7:8 (NKJV)
8 I said, โI will go up to the palm tree, I will take hold of its branches.โ Let now your breasts be like clusters of the vine, The fragrance of your [a]breath like apples,
Song of Solomon 8:10 (NKJV)
10 I am a wall, And my breasts like towers; Then I became in his eyes As one who found peace.
Hebrews 13:4 (NKJV)
4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
1 Corinthians 7:2-5 (NLT)
2 But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.
3 The husband should fulfill his wifeโs sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husbandโs needs. 4 The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife.
5 Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan wonโt be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
So, couples enjoy one another, and may your marriages…

The bible teaches us that we are to always be conforming into the image of Yeshua the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:29 (NKJV)
29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
We conform to His image by emulating His character…His love…His attributes. That’s how we ‘look like Him’.
Unfortunately, the ‘face’ of Christianity has devolved into what is characterized by angry, mean-spirited, insulting, arrogant, and judgmental ‘believers’ who are labeled as ‘evangelicals’. Many, but not all, of these people are impressed by so-called ‘strong words’…threats…profanity…insults…everything that is the exact opposite of the Fruit of His Spirit, and the behavior He demands of all His disciples…
Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
They consider what God calls strength, such as gentleness, as weakness and even celebrate and applaud insults and profanity from the mouths of leaders. They consider themselves to be the definitions of patriotism, courage, and Christian character. The character God demands is clear…
James 3:17-18 (NASB)
17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, [c]reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, [d]impartial, free of hypocrisy. 18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace [e]by those who make peace.
The disciples of the early church never called themselves Christians, they were called Christians by outsiders first in Antioch…
Acts 11:26 (NKJV)
26 And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
THIS IS WHY I’D RATHER BE CALLED A DISCIPLE RATHER THAN AN EVANGELICALS. HERE ARE 2 SIMPLE REASONS…
1. JESUS HIMSELF DESCRIBED HOW WE WOULD BE KNOWN AS HIS ‘DISCIPLES…
John 13:34-35 (NKJV)
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.โ
Notice that Jesus said, “As I have loved you”. Go back and look at how He loved us. He had compassion. He healed. He fed. He forgave. He always spoke kind and compassionate words to ‘sinners’ while He always sharply rebuked the ‘religious’ people for their hypocrisy and His disciples when they displayed ‘small faith’. Contrary to how mustard seed faith is depicted as ‘little faith’, it takes great faith for something as small as a mustard seed to grow into something big. From when Jesus calmed the storm in Mark Chapter 4: 35-41 to when He rebuked His disciples in Matthew 17:17, the Savior was always frustrated by ‘little faith’ while He was impressed by ‘great faith’ (Matthew 8:10).
Loving AS He loves us is how we are recognized as He stated…His disciples.
2. MANY OF THOSE WHO ARE KNOWN AS EVANGELICALS HAVE CHANGED THE ‘FACE’ OF ‘CHRISTIANITY’ FROM A SMILE TO A ‘FROWN’…
Those who claim to be evangelicals claim to speak for God, but through their chosen narrative of the scriptures. They are angry, self-righteous, justify pride and arrogance, place more faith in guns and weapons than the power of Yehovha Saboath (The Lord of Hosts), and don’t share the Gospel in love. Jesus told us to be very careful how we carry ourselves among unbelievers…
Colossians 4:5-6 (NKJV)
5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Anyone who can’t share their faith in love needs to keep it to themselves. We draw no one to Christ through the behavior of many of those who call themselves evangelicals.
We have more in common than we sometimes realize, even when we disagree.
Two of the most controversial topics in America, if not the world, are BLACK-ON-BLACK CRIME and WHITE PRIVILEGE They are both issues that are quickly deflected when mentioned to many in their respective races.
BLACK-ON-BLACK CRIME
There are countless neighborhoods in America where many of the residents live in fear, not of racists…not of other races…but of people who look like them. There is vigorous debate as to the causes such as generational poverty, systematic racism, the drug epidemic, organized gangs and others. However, the problem still persists and is undeniable. Many people within the Black community act just the same as people of other races when certain neighborhoods and cities are mentioned. The fact is that many of the EXTERNAL REASONS have been accepted as EXCUSES by many.
WHITE PRIVILEGE
Even if a white person is born in abject poverty and works very hard to become successful, the fact that they benefited from a system that was designed through generations that put them at an advantage. Societal attitudes, preferences, and norms have been established from a ‘white’ perspective. Even from the simple fact that many products whose packaging lists the color as ‘nude’ is the color of white flesh. The fact that beauty standard for generations have been based on ‘European’ features. And, that ‘acceptable’ history has been recorded from one perspective (for examples, Native Americans were portrayed as savages, and cowboys as heroes) . Injustice, inequality, inequity and a sense of entitlement (even though sometimes unintentional) is an undeniably interwoven into United States history as the extraordinary opportunities that the country offers.
As different as these two issues may be, they have some things in common and they have common solutions.
1. BOTH PROVOKE A DEFENSIVE RESPONSE
When you mention Black-on-Black crime to or White privilege to many members of their respective races, they are quick to respond…”There is no such thing!” Mentioning both issues quickly yield a defensive response. Both issues are quickly deflected with reasons to either justify, excuse or dismiss the behavior.
2. PEOPLE WITHIN EACH RACE ARE AFRAID TO ADMIT THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE BACKLASH
There are many people in both communities who quietly agree there is a problem, but they know if they speak up about it, they will be ridiculed by people within their own race.
3. BOTH HAVE BIBLICAL EXAMPLES
Israel spent 400 years of slavery in Egypt. After being established in the “Promised Land”, they were exiled in a strange country and considered second-class citizens. Even in the days of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) they were under Roman rule and considered second-class citizens in their own land. This caused internal and cultural challenges within the Jewish nation.
A gentle once told me, there is no such thing as ‘white privilege’ in the Bible. My response was study the Romans…the people, not the New Testament book. The Romans were European conquerors who felt entitled to the spoil of whomever they conquered. In the case of Israel, the Romans considered themselves superior, they did not associate with the Jews on an equal level, and their very empire was set-up to give them an advantage economically, socially and legally.
4. BOTH ISSUES SHARE COMMON SOLUTIONS
No matter what external challenges the Jews faces, God still expected them to maintain the integrity of His name and to always represent Him in their behavior through the most difficult situations. Look at what God told them while exiled in Babylon…
Jeremiah 29:4-14 (NKJV)
4 Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all who were carried away captive, whom I have caused to be carried away from Jerusalem to Babylon:
5 Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit. 6 Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughtersโthat you may be increased there, and not diminished. 7 And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it; for in its peace you will have peace. 8 For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Do not let your prophets and your diviners who are in your midst deceive you, nor listen to your dreams which you cause to be dreamed. 9 For they prophesy falsely to you in My name; I have not sent them, says the Lord.
10 For thus says the Lord: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place. 11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.
So God doesn’t give ‘a pass’ to indulge in crime because of the external challenges.
God also has an expectation of those who find themselves in a position of power. . Being a member of the majority puts one at an advantage. To be a member of the ‘majority’ is a position of strength. And, what is God’s expectation of ‘the strong’?
Romans 15:1-2 (NKJV)
We then who are strong ought to bear with the [a]scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to [b]edification.
God expects those who are in the position of strength to consider those who are weaker rather than please themselves.
Both Black and White people must:
Amit to themselves their own cultural challenges.
Courageously and aggressively address those challenges INTERNALLY in spite of any EXTERNAL causes or influences.
Every race and society must promote a culture and expectation must of EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE that perfectly aligns with the word of God. Many of our problems in society can be solved through cultures of high Emotional Intelligence (when one is aware of his or her emotions and the emotions of those around them and the ability to control their emotions).
Promote a culture of EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE that perfectly aligns with the word of God. Many of our problems in society can be solved through cultures of high Emotional Intelligence (when one is aware of his or her emotions and the emotions of those around them and the ability to control their emotions).
Crime, an attitude of privilege, as well as other sins…murder, theft, fornication, adultery, rage, wrath, revenge, greed, hatred, drunkenness, idolatry, selfishness can be cured by controlling our emotions. This must be achieved on and individual and cultural level. And, this behavioral science concept aligns perfectly with scripture…
Ephesians 4:31-32 (NKJV)
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, [a]clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Colossians 3:5-11 (NKJV)
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, 7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV)
Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
God give us the responsibility to change, and the gift of His Holy Spirit to make those changes.
We all have more in common than we often realize, even when we disagree.
How many times have you prayed and God answered your prayers?
Heโs done it more times than I can count, sometimes prayers that were for me and sometimes prayers I have made for others.
What unbelievers, skeptics, and critics call COINCIDENCE…believers call CONFIRMATION.
But, one of the things I really love about God is when He sometimes hits the bullseye by answering a prayer so specifically that there is absolutely no way it can be a coincidence.
Every now and then God does something completely amazing to be a reminder in your moments of doubt so that they donโt become seasons of doubt.
How about stopping what youโre doing right now and give Him some love by praising Him. Tell Him thank you! Tell Him you love Him! And, tell Him you trust Him Iโm the name of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ).
Psalm 28:6-7 (NKJV)
6 Blessed be the Lord, Because He has heard the voice of my supplications! 7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise Him.
There is a discussion, sometimes contentious, going on in America about how history is taught in schools. Many of the people who are passionate about controlling the narrative claim to be Christians. They claim to be concerned with the accurateness of how history is taught, especially because of it’s influence on future generations.
God has the same concern…
John 4:24 (NKJV)
24ย Godย isย Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.โ
Revelation 22:18-19 (NKJV)
18ย [a]For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book:ย If anyone adds to these things,ย [b]God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;ย 19ย and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy,ย God[c]ย shall take away his part from theย [d]Book of Life, from the holy city, andย fromย the things which are written in this book.
The bible makes it clear that Yeshua the Messiah was both human and divine. It also makes it clear that He was born a Jew. He was born in the Mediterranean, actually in Asia. It’s what we call the Middle East (relative to Europe of course). The region borders Africa and those born in that region don’t have the physical traits that are depicted in many images of Jesus.
It has driven thought among people of many races as to how Jesus looked. It’s interesting that many people who claim to be passionate about preserving history and it’s accuracy are perfectly fine with a European image of Jesus. Many people who claim to be passionate about scriptures, and will argue until they are ‘blue in the face’ about being true to the bible, will quickly claim, ‘his color doesn’t matter’ when this is mentioned. Many people who cherry-pick their way through the bible will say, ‘what does it matter?’
And, it especially, personally pisses me off when someone proclaims, “Why are you spreading division?”
Division?
Why is it than when certain narratives are challenged that it’s considered ‘division’? ‘Hate?’ ‘Negativity’?
I’m a Black man who lives in the United States of America, and unfortunately, many discussions come down to BLACK and WHITE.
Many people are introduced to faith in God through Yeshua the Messiah, believing that God is White. Jesus was born with White flesh, and the Gospel is preached from that perspective.
This has influenced thought to the point that many won’t accept a ‘Black Jesus’…
The fact that ‘White Jesus’ (Yeshua) is the one FALSE JESUS that people seem to resist challenging…
This is one of the reasons that I believe that we are to never portray an image of Christ based on…
Exodus 20:4-5a (NKJV)
4 โYou shall not make for yourself a carved imageโany likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor [a]serve them.
One could easily consider any image of the Son of God to be idolatry. Even though we don’t know exactly what He looked/looks like, by virtue of ‘race’ (for lack of a better word) FAITH, NOT RACEโฆ and culture in which He was born, we know what He didn’t look like.
There are many in the Body of Christ who love quoting John 10:10โฆ
John 10:10 (NKJV)
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
But, we must remember that this verse applies to those of us who are being led by the Good Shepherd (John 10:1-17). Those who are โwalking in the Spiritโ (Galatians 5:16-26). Those who not only believe, but are responding to being the โcalled according to His purposeโ (Romans 8:28). To those who are laboring for His Harvest (Matthew 9:37-38). And especially those who are connected to the vine and bearing good fruit (John 15:1-8).
It is Godโs will that we add to His Kingdomโฆthat we make disciples (Matthew 28:19), and that every interaction brings glory and honor to His name, thatโs bearing good fruit.
So by default, if we arenโt bearing good fruit we are either bearing no fruit or bearing bad fruit. Godโs word addresses how He feels about those of us who are being nurtured by His love, grace, mercy, provision and protection and bear no fruit (. Many of us only use the resources that God gives us, not just money, but our anointing, gifts and talents on ourselves. Itโs like a fruit tree with all leaves but no fruit (Luke 13:6-9),(John 15:1-8), and dig this oneโฆ
Isaiah 5:1-7 (NKJV)
Now let me sing to my Well-beloved
A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard:
My Well-beloved has a vineyard
On a very fruitful hill. 2 He dug it up and cleared out its stones,
And planted it with the choicest vine.
He built a tower in its midst,
And also made a winepress in it;
So He expected it to bring forth good grapes,
But it brought forth wild grapes.
3 โAnd now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah,
Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard. 4 What more could have been done to My vineyard
That I have not done in it?
Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes,
Did it bring forth wild grapes? 5 And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard:
I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. 6 I will lay it waste;
It shall not be pruned or dug,
But there shall come up briers and thorns.
I will also command the clouds
That they rain no rain on it.โ
7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel,
And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant.
He looked for justice, but behold, oppression;
For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.
So, I think the word of God establishes it well that it is very possible to believe but to be of no use to Him in the Kingdom. Even to the point to tell us that if we have faith, but are always sitting on it, that our faith is dead (James 2:14-26).
By deductive reasoning, we can also conclude that if we are not benefiting Godโs Kingdom that we are…
NO THREAT TO THE DEVIL
That being established, and so-called believer who is no threat to the devil IS a threat to the Kingdom. They justify being an inactive, apathetic believer.
There are those also who claim to believe but have allowed the devil to manipulate them into pursuing his agenda, for example the scribes and Pharisees claimed to be Godโs representatives but were actually working for the enemy, they sought to kill Jesus unknowingly fulfilling scripture (Matthew 12:14, John 5:18, John 7:1, John 11:53, John 16:2).
The Ku Klux Klan claimed and claims to be a Christian organization, but they are actually pursued and are pursuing the enemyโs agenda.
SO IF YOU ARE OF NO USE TO GODโS KINGDOM OR EVEN HELPING THE ENEMY WHY SHOULD HE TRY TO STEAL FROM YOU, KILL YOU OR DESTROY YOU? WHY SHOULD THE ENEMY TRY TO HARM YOU IF YOU ARE BENEFITING HIM?
Do you have a genuine concern for those who are lost? Are you acting on it? Are you letting your light shine? Can people really tell youโre a Christian by how you live daily?
Remember the words of the 12-year old Jesus, โโฆI must be about my Fatherโs business.โ(Luke 2:49).
Are you about your Fatherโs business? If not why should the devil fight against you? In fact, if we arenโt about our Fatherโs business, then again by default whoโs business are we about?
John 8:44-45 (NKJV)
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.
If your life seems to be too easy…it may be for a reason.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early,
To sit up late,
To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep.
Are you tired? You went to bed. You had time away from work, but youโre still tired? Is your mind always racing? Are you either trying to get ahead? Stay ahead? Or, catch up? Maybe youโre just trying to hold it together.
So many of us our so busy. So many of us are either worried, stressed or obsessed.
Then what do we say when someone transitions from this lifeโฆโRest in Peace!โ
I want to encourage you today to learn to rest in peace BEFORE you die!
One of the enemyโs greatest manipulations is to keep us spiritually weak because we donโt rest. He wants us too tired to read and study Godโs word. He wants us too tired to take the time to pray before we eat our food, before we go to bed at night. He wants us too tired to go to worship.
How many times have you said, โIโm not going to church todayโฆIโm too tired!โ
Rest is so important to God that He commanded we rest one day every week (Exodus 20:10). He told us to do no work! But, Iโve noticed that in some church cultures people will go to morning worship, then they will leave and go to another church and worship having whatโs called โafternoon servicesโ or โspecial daysโโฆ.Menโs Day, Womenโs Day etc. Then some will even have another service in the evening.
Just as much as it is Godโs will that we donโt forsake the assembling of ourselves together and that we worship regularly, itโs not His will for us to spend all day in church to the point that we donโt rest at all. That is establishing our own righteousness (Romans 10:3).
I have to admit when it comes to not getting enough rest. Iโm guilty. Iโm guilty of sometimes letting lifeโs problems weigh too heavy on my mind. Iโm guilty of not stopping to just do nothing and rest my mind, body and spirit
I encourage you to learn to rest in peace before you die. Learn to rest your body. Learn to rest your mind. Learn to rest you spirit. Learn to refresh yourself in Godโs word and prayer. Learn to say NO. Learn to say I canโt do that. Learn to say I need some time to myself. Think of how Jesus would withdraw to Himself (Luke 5:16).
The Lord has promised to help us with our โrest problemโฆโ
Matthew 11:28New King James Version (NKJV)
28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Learn to get yourself some rest because if you donโtโฆyouโre being disobedient.
If God makes it so easy to join His organization (Romans 10:9), why do we make it so hard to join some of ours?
I was watching a television show in which a young lady hoping to join a prestigious college band was beaten into intensive care during her initiation, and it was swept under the rug and defended by those in authority to protect their tradition.
I’ve heard many comment and reason that such behavior is just ‘part of the process’…that some initiations and inductions are just ‘part of growing up’.
I’ve heard that enduring this foolishness with others breeds loyalty, brotherhood/sisterhood, comradery, etc.
Some of these organizations claim to be Christians organizations.
Now, I’m sure some of you reading will defend it out of loyalty to your own beloved organizations and traditions, but if you’re a Christian…if you know God’s word…if you know the character and culture of His Kingdom…and if you’re honest with yourself, you know it’s not of God and makes no sense. You know that some of the activities people are forced to participate in are clearly not Godly.
If it’s not of God, then it’s of the devil…
If it’s of the devil, then it’s straight from Hell.
How do I know it’s not of God?
Because God made joining His organization EASY for us!
It’s interesting how so many organizations, teams, clubs etc. make it so DIFFICULT to join…initiations, rituals, rites of passage, hazing, traditions…while, God makes it so EASY!
Romans 10:9 (NKJV)
9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
The Body of Christ, His church is the most important and prestigious ‘organization’ of this earth and beyond.
The benefits of membership are eternal…
Yet, God makes it so easy to become part of His family.
But,
So many earthly organizations feel it’s such an honor to be inducted into their ranks that some have even died trying to get in. When you think about it…it’s quite absurd that people have shed blood to join some groups but…
Yeshua, Jesus Christ, paid the price of our admission to His church with His blood…
Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)
But He was wounded for our transgressions,He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
One of Jesus’ greatest battles was against foolish, senseless tradition (Matthew 15:1-20).
Matthew 15:1-20(NKJV)
Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying, 2 โWhy do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.โ
3 He answered and said to them, โWhy do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?4 For God commanded, saying, โHonor your father and your motherโ; [a] and, โHe who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.โ[b]5 But you say, โWhoever says to his father or mother, โWhatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to Godโโ6 then he need not honor his father or mother.โ[c] Thus you have made the commandment[d] of God of no effect by your tradition.7 Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:
8 โThese people draw near to Me with their mouth, And[e] honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. 9 And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.โ โ[f]
10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, โHear and understand:11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.โ
12 Then His disciples came and said to Him, โDo You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?โ
13 But He answered and said, โEvery plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.14 Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.โ
15 Then Peter answered and said to Him, โExplain this parable to us.โ
16 So Jesus said, โAre you also still without understanding?17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated?18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.โ
No organization on earth supersedes God’s and should never be no more difficult to become a part of than His church.
Even though some have even perverted and complicated โmembershipโ in His church, that was never His intention.
When any organization makes potential members submit themselves to violence, vulgar and profane language, embarrassment and possible harm as conditions of joiningโฆthose activities are not of God.
This is not an indictment on all organizations that require some sort of ‘proving grounds’, but when it crosses God’s line, it’s gone too far.
Don’t get caught up trying to hold onto, defend and condone traditions from Hell.
We all know that God expects us to love everyone, even our enemies. And, we also know that’s not always easy to do. Sometimes peoples’ actions can take us beyond not just liking them.
There are people who clearly donโt like us, people who donโt have the same beliefs, values and opinions. People who we feel donโt respect our traditions, heritages and cultures. Those who unapologetically work against us and try to hurt. People who hate us.
Well, the fact that God forbids us to hate people hasnโt changed, but He does allow us to hate THINGS about people. So, the next time you look at someone in such intense anger that hate begins to fill your heart, here are a few things that itโs okay to hate ABOUT peopleโฆ
Their behaviorโฆ
Their attitudeโฆ
Their habitsโฆ
Their clothesโฆ
Their tasteโฆ
Their traditionsโฆ
Their temperโฆ
Even the organizations and institutions they create.
Everything mentioned above can be hated without hating the person. How do I know that? Because God, who loves all of us, also hates some things about us tooโฆ
Proverbs 6:16-19 (NKJV)
16 These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to [a]Him: 17 A[b] proud look,
A lying tongue,
Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.
But, He never lets what He hates about us provoke Him to hate us, even when weโre His enemiesโฆ
James 4:4 (NKJV)
4 [a]Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
Romans 5:10 (NKJV)
10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
We were created in Godโs image. He hates stuff too. He just doesnโt hate usโฆever. So, the next time you feel your natural God-given emotion to hate fill your heart, do these five things…
Stop and focus on what it is you hate ABOUT them.
Focus on that or those things.
Ask God to help you love the person.
Then sincerely pray that God strengthens them in the areas you hate, and to open your eyes if you’re wrong.
Ask God to help you love them through the things you hate about them, just like He loves you through those things He hates about you.
You see. Learning to love people through the things we hate about them gives us the opportunity to be more like God.
We must be very careful of the excuses we give why we aren’t doing what God has called us to do.
What do people say when confronted with doing what God expects of them or has called them to do?
Why donโt you go to church?
Letโs go feed the homeless.
Letโs go visit and minister people in prison and hospitalsโฆ
Why donโt you give the firstfruits of all your increase to
God?
Usually before we make an excuse, we usually give a big BUTโฆ
โI would, BUT the people in church arenโt right themselvesโฆโ
โI would, BUT those homeless people will just spend it on drugs,
cigarettes and alcoholโฆโ
โI would, BUT I canโt afford toโฆโ
โI would, BUT I donโt have time to visitโฆโ
โI would, BUT my kids have sportsโฆโ
Yeshua, Christ Jesus, gave us a parable to illustrate how
much He hates our excuses. He let us know how much He hates our BIG BUTSโฆ
Luke 14:18-24 (NKJV)
18 BUT they all with one accord began
to make excuses. The first said to him, โI have bought a piece of ground, and I
must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.โ 19 And another said, โI
have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have
me excused.โ 20 Still
another said, โI have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.โ 21 So that servant came and
reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry,
said to his servant, โGo out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city,
and bring in here the poor and the[a]maimed and the lame
and the blind.โ 22 And the servant said, โMaster, it is done as you
commanded, and still there is room.โ 23 Then the master said to the servant, โGo out into
the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my
house may be filled. 24 For
I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my
supper.โ โ
Notice that each of these excuses addressed the same excuses
we give today.
BUSINESS. WORK. CAREER
โI bought a piece of groundโฆโ
โI bought a yoke of oxenโฆโ
SPOUSE. CHILDREN. FAMILY
โI have married a wifeโฆ
These excuses made the master of the house (Jesus) angry.
So, He invited the very people who those who were initially invited were called
to serve instead.
He then said those who makes excuses and rejected His
invitation will not โtaste His supperโ (will not enter His Kingdom).
Jesus hates our excuses! However, the enemy loves our BIG BUTS! He loves our excuses.
Donโt let your BIG BUT keep you out of the Kingdom of God!
This can easily and subtly slip into the day-to-day life a mature disciple of Christ if we arenโt careful. Worshiping myself, a form of idolatry of which many of us may be guilty, but donโt realize it.
Yes, you can be saved, love God, not caught up in what we like to call the ‘big sins’ and still worship yourself either along with or instead of God. See, the enemy knows he isn’t going to convince you to erect a ‘golden calf’ in your home, so he cleverly manipulates us to commit idolatry in other ways.
Here is how it happened to me several years ago…
Iโve always enjoyed trying to eat well and exercising, you know โ working out. Iโve enjoyed lifting weights and different forms of cardio for years. As I entered my early forties a few years ago, I was also more cognizant of my overall health. I wanted to be proactive about as many health issues as I could. I wanted my physical quality of life to remain high as long as possible. I wanted my wife to still find me attractive, and honestly, I wanted my size to be somewhat intimidating to anyone who may be looking for a โweakโ target.
Even though I have had a regular exercise regime off and on for years, I intensified my efforts to twice per day. I had a gym membership, so I would get upโฆpray and head to the gym before I went to work. We also have a gym at my office building, so I would also work out during my lunch break as well.
I was pleased to hear the compliments as my body changed more and more. Of course it was cool to have my wife notice, but it was also nice to have other people notice as my body changed. Come on now, I know you strive to be holy, but we we all like complements. Even the preacher loves it when the congregation says, “Great job!” It’s a part of being made in the image of our Heavenly Father, who loves our praise. We all love complements…but the enemy tries to leverage those complements to his advantage.
Here was my problemโฆsome mornings I would wake up a โlittleโ later than others, and yes I would pray, but my prayer would be shorter, but my workouts would be just as long. I would work out anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour each morning.
I began to feel โguiltyโ or uneasy if I woke and and didnโt work out, or if I missed my lunchtime workout. I think the word for that I was avoiding at the time is obsessed. This was moving beyond what was necessary for good health and into ritualโฆreligionโฆself-worship. I remembered what the bible teachesโฆ
1 Timothy 4:8 (NKJV)
8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
Well, I was invited one day to be a part of a flag football league, at 43 years old. Most of the other players were either in their late teens, twenties and thirties. During our first practice I hung right in there with them playing wide receiver, and I was โproudโ of myself. We ere out there for about an hour and a half when I felt someone kick me on the back of my ankle and heard a loud pop and I fell down. It didnโt hurt, so as I tried to get up I fell right back down.
No one kicked me. I felt the back of my ankle where my Achilles tendon was supposed to be. It snapped! It was a complete rupture that of course required surgery.
I was in a cast for two months and a boot for two more monthsโฆrequired physical therapy and my recovery took about a year.
Afterward I adjusted my workout regime, bought a bike for my cardio so I wouldnโt stress my injury and even though I kept working out, it was nothing like before.
But, most importantly, instead of working out, I began going out on my front porch each morning and spending quality time with God โ looking at the stars and taking in the beauty of His creation. I began spending up to 30 minutes out there on the porch praying, reading His word and just fellowshipping with Him. I noticed how peaceful it was. I noticed how my morning didnโt feel complete if by chance I didnโt do it. I noticed I close it makes me feel to God and how in His presence is the fullness of joy and peaceโฆ
Psalm 16:11 (NKJV)
11 You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
I noticed that when I lay awake troubled about something, I couldnโt wait to get out on my porch to be โwith Godโ. It is my personal alter. I absolutely love it.
It suddenly hit meโฆ.I went from getting up first thing in the morning and worshiping myself to getting up and worshiping God. Not just praying, but spending real quality time.
I still exercise, but I thank God for allowing me to ‘come to myself’ and put my priorities back in place as they were before this brief ‘midlife crisis’.
So, I encourage you to examine yourself. You may not be worshiping yourself through exercise, but if you arenโt careful your devotion to your appearance, your desires, your pleasures, your possessions, your job, your career, your homeโฆ can the enemy tricking you into worshiping yourself.
If youโre on social media you see them every day…
Videos of people who donโt know they are being watched that have been posted to amuse the masses.
Many times these videos go viral with thousands of views, shares and mean-spirited comments. People love to add their comments hoping get multiple ๐ responses.
โCaption this!โ
โWait for it!โ
The problem is that many times, there is a real person who is being humiliated in many of these videos. This could be a person who is already fighting for their self-esteem.
How would you like for your most embarrassing, humiliating moments to go viral.
Remember, social media shaming is โcyber-bullyingโ too.
Please donโt help give life to something that may be killing someoneโs spirit.
Matthew 7:12 (NKJV)
12 Therefore, (A)whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for (B)this is the Law and the Prophets.
I’m by no means diminishing the demands…challenges or dangers of any occupation, especially those that I don’t fully understand…
But, I don’t have to understand to know that God expects HIS people to remain in His character and integrity.
Psalm 25:21 (NKJV)
Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You.
The apostles were sent by God to spread the Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ and start His church.
It was an extremely dangerous occupation. They were put in the path of violent and ungodly people on a regular basis.
The apostle Paul requested prayer knowing he was going to encounter people at their worst…but God still expected them to remain in His spirit of excellence.
2 Thessalonians 3:1-2 (NKJV)
Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you, 2 and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.
I sometimes hear people on certain jobs excuse profanity…obscenity…and disrespectful behavior by saying…
“Sometimes you have to get down to their level”…
Or
“That’s what it takes to get the best out of people”…
Or even
“I’m trying keep him, her or them from being soft”.
If you feel that your job regularly or sometimes forces you to…
Curse…
Cheat…
Lie..
Steal…
Manipulate…
Deceive…
Disrespect…
Demean…
Fornicate…
Commit adultery…
Facilitate or encourage the sin of others…
Or…
Regularly miss worship…
If you’re a Christian, then maybe it’s not the job for you.
I understand there are jobs that may put someone in the position to take a life to protect others…that’s not sin.
Think about your job…career…occupation.
Think about your tasks…responsibilities…expectations.
Think about what you have to do to be successful.
I hear so many people in my office use profanity, as if it makes them sound strong or confident.
I hear so many people use harsh words and behavior as if it were a necessary part of their job.
Can you think of a profession where profanity and disrespect are expected and even honored?
No matter what your occupation, God expects His people to set the standard of behavior…especially in difficult circumstances.
Colossians 3:23(NKJV)
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men,
How many times have you heard this (or done this)?
There’s a disagreement…an arguement…a debate…a discussion…a contention… a situation where someone rubbed you wrong.
It could have been politics, religion, relationship, sports, work, or whatever…
But, they pushed the right button (or wrong button) and whether you admit it or not, they ticked you off (or pissed you off).
However, you are a Christian and you love God, so you ‘dismiss’ them with a “God bless you!”, or “I will pray you!”
Hmmm, when you’re honest with yourself though, you didn’t mean that in your heart.
You would never say, “F*** You!”. And, the devil knows it too.
That’s why he cleverly slipped in and manipulated you to use a blessing to be nice-nasty. Your ‘blessing contained venom! Your mouth said, God bless you, but your heart really said “F-You”.
The person to whom you it, and those who heard it could tell what you really meant…and so could God.
We all have human moments, but we must be very careful not to allow the enemy to make us guilty of what the Psalmist said… Psalm 62:4c (NKJV)
“…They bless with their mouths, but they curse inwardly.”
Remember, we must give an account for every word that comes from our mouths…
Matthew 12:36
(NKJV)
36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
Sex in marriage between a man and a woman is a beautiful blessing from the LORD, but it can also be the source of frustration.
One of greatest frustrations is when couples aren’t ‘on the same page’…when they aren’t in the mood at the same time. If this goes on and isn’t handled in the right way it can cause a huge strain on the relationship.
Now, I know there are many reasons why couples clash sexually, but God has revealed something amazing to me through 30 plus years of marriage.
There is a hidden blessing in when they aren’t on the same page that can actually enhance a marriage and sex life.
One of the things that makes dating so fun is the mystery. Some people even step outside their marriage to relive that excitement and mystery…
Do they like me?
Are they attracted to me?
Do they feel the same way I do?
Do they want me?
It leads to real dating. It leads to romancing one another. It leads to seduction.
But, here we go again with Godโs hidden, often overlooked wisdom. I believe that He has created us to NOT be in the mood at the same time ALL the time.
DISCOVER THE HIDDEN BLESSING OF WHEN YOU ARENโT IN THE MOOD AT THE SAME TIME!
After years of marriage, being in the mood at the same time all of the time can become subtly boring. Always getting what you want when you want it sexually can actually become mundane and routine.
When managed correctly, not being on the same page can turnโฆ
Frustration into Fantasy!
Crankiness into Creativity!
Anger into Anticipation!
Rudeness into Romance!
There are unmarried people who, even though itโs wrong, when pursuing sex from someone to whom they are attracted, have waited patiently for months planningโฆromancingโฆdatingโฆseducingโฆtrying to impressโฆdoing what it takes PATIENTLY until they finallyโฆ
Get it…
Hit it…
Until they finally get their fantasies and passions reciprocated. Sometimes these same people donโt exercise the same level of patience once they are married.
Read the Song of Solomon and notice the level of excitement and anticipation in Godly marriage. Notice how the excitement builds as the bride seeks her loveโฆ
Song of Solomon 3:1-5 (NKJV)
3 By night on my bed I sought the one I love; I sought him, but I did not find him. 2 โI will rise now,โ I said, โAnd go about the city; In the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love.โ I sought him, but I did not find him. 3 The watchmen who go about the city found me; I said, โHave you seen the one I love?โ
4 Scarcely had I passed by them, When I found the one I love. I held him and would not let him go, Until I had brought him to the house of my mother, And into the chamber of her who conceived me.
5 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, By the gazelles or by the does of the field, Do not stir up nor awaken love Until it pleases.
Notice the excitement as Solomon praises his brideโฆ
Song of Solomon 4:1-12 (NKJV)
4 Behold, you are fair, my love! Behold, you are fair! You have doveโs eyes behind your veil. Your hair is like a flock of goats, Going down from Mount Gilead. 2 Your teeth are like a flock of shorn sheep Which have come up from the washing, Every one of which bears twins, And none is barren among them. 3 Your lips are like a strand of scarlet, And your mouth is lovely. Your temples behind your veil Are like a piece of pomegranate. 4 Your neck is like the tower of David, Built for an armory, On which hang a thousand bucklers, All shields of mighty men. 5 Your two breasts are like two fawns, Twins of a gazelle, Which feed among the lilies.
6 Until the day breaks And the shadows flee away, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh And to the hill of frankincense.
7 You are all fair, my love, And there is no spot in you. 8 Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, With me from Lebanon. Look from the top of Amana, From the top of Senir and Hermon, From the lionsโ dens, From the mountains of the leopards.
9 You have ravished my heart, My sister, my spouse; You have ravished my heart With one look of your eyes, With one link of your necklace. 10 How fair is your love, My sister, my spouse! How much better than wine is your love, And the scent of your perfumes Than all spices! 11 Your lips, O my spouse, Drip as the honeycomb; Honey and milk are under your tongue; And the fragrance of your garments Is like the fragrance of Lebanon.
12 A garden enclosed Is my sister, my spouse, A spring shut up, A fountain sealed.
Discuss this with your spouse.
Admit that you wonโt always be on the same page all the time.
Agree to be patient with one another when this occurs.
Pray that God doesnโt allow the devil to have a foothold in your marriage when it happens.
Make the most of those moments by allowing them to create…
Renewed fantasies of one anotherโฆ
To restore excitement and anticipation…
To bring back the mystery and thrill of the discovery that ‘he or she feels like I do’โฆ’wants me like I want him or her’โฆ’that we are on the same page.’
Because whether it be because of an argument or not being on the same page, we all know how goooooooood it can be after it’s been a while. Can I get an amen:-)
John Chapter 17 records the real โLordโs Prayerโ, as Matthew 6 gives us the model prayer. In John, He prays for Himself, His disciples and finally those who believe in Him through the disciples words…us.
It’s interesting of all things He could pray about, in verses 20 through 24 He prayed for…
Unity… Agreement… ONENESS!
Why?
Because three of the most powerful forces on this earth are…
LOVE…
HATE…
and…
UNITY!
It would be impossible for the Gospel to spread, the church to grow and families to survive without unity.
Notice what the bible says about agreement…
Genesis 11:6 (NKJV)
6 And the Lord said, โIndeed the people ARE ONE and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
Amos 3:3 (NKJV)
3 Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
1 Corinthians 1:10 (NKJV)
10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [a]speak the same thing, and that there be no [b]divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
It was through ‘agreement’ and ‘unity’ that the devil was able to provoke rebellion in heaven leading to him and those who united with him being kicked out…
Revelation 12:7-9 (NKJV)
7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they [a]did not prevail, nor was a place found for [b]them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
However, the ultimate agreement is in heaven…
1 John 5:7 (NKJV)
7For there are three that bear witness [a]in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
So, if our Savior was intentional enough to pray for agreement, I encourage you to be intentional to specifically pray for agreement EVER DAY in…
Your marriage…
Your family…
In your local church…
In the Body of Christ…
In your government…
On your job.
And especially pray for unity with God… That you are ONE with Him and He is ONE with you, just as He is ONE with our Lord and Savior Yeshua the Messiah. Pray for this every day, and if possible every time you pray.
Notice how many times the Lord says or infers ONE in His prayer for us…
John 17:20-26 (NKJV)
20 โI do not pray for these alone, but also for those who [a]will believe in Me through their word; 21 that they all may be ONE as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be ONE in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be ONE just as We are ONE: 23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in ONE, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.24 โFather, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me. 26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.โ
Remember, this isn’t just a prayer, it’s the Lord’s passion. And, it should be ours too.
Many people in America suffer from a spiritual epidemic of pride and refuse to acknowledge or address it.
One way this abomination manifests itself is through how history is perceived and presented.
Too many Americans feel they have the right to define which history is appropriate and which is not.
For example, when speaking of the Confederacy or the flag that represented that rebellious effort that fought against the United States…many will not only claim it’s history, but will boastfully say, IT’S HERITAGE NOT HATE. They will quickly tell you they don’t care WHO is offended by the Confederate flag or honoring that history. It doesn’t enter their mind that it’s in any way divisive or stirs up hatred.
However, when little-known history and atrocities committed by Americans is shared, such as the Tulsa Massacre of 1921, some of the same people consider this history to be ‘race-bating’, stirring up hatred, and divisive.
What?
Are you that hypocritical?
How arrogant, selfish and quite frankly entitled can you be?
One of the most beautiful things about the bible, both Old Testament and New Testament, is that it reports the SAME HISTORY from more than one perspective, From the prophets, to the synoptic Gospels compared to John. Study the bible and look at how prophets who were contemporaries conveyed the same story from different perspectives.
God doesn’t try to hide the ugly things Israel did, or paint them as glorious, but instead shows His anger at them, tells how He rebuked them, and left a lesson for generations to come.
Telling people that history they don’t prefer is inappropriate is a text-book attitude of entitlement and privilege. But, people aren’t that stupid. When they’re honest with themselves…they know that. These people get pissed off because they want complete control of the narrative of American history. You don’t get to define what’s HATRED and what’s HISTORY based on the history that you value.
“Too many people in America only see America as always the HERO or the โHOLY VICTIMโ. I love America, but we (none of us) have not ALWAYS been the hero.
Too many people only see America as:
Israel and never Egyptโฆ
Joseph and never his brothers who sold him into slaveryโฆ
Esther & Mordecai and never Hamanโฆ
Israel/Judah and never Assyriaโฆ
Israel/Judah and never Babylonโฆ
Jesus and never Judasโฆ
Jesus and never the Phariseesโฆ
Jesus and never Herodโฆ
Jesus and never Pilateโฆ
Israel and never the Romansโฆ
And, even when America sees itself as Israel, too many in America never see themselves as REBUKED ISRAEL which God is holding accountable for their sins, but only heroic, victorious or restored Israel.
The bible is full of accounts of Israel being rebuked for not only their sins, but not rejecting the sins of their โfathersโ. Instead, too many sins of Americaโs past are celebrated as โhistoryโ and โheritageโ. God has proven that everything about our past should not only go uncelebrated, but should be confessed and repentedโฆ
Leviticus 26:39-42 (NKJV)
39 And those of you who are left shall [a]waste away in their iniquity in your enemiesโ lands; also in their fathersโ iniquities, which are with them, they shall waste away.
40 โBut if they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their fathers, with their unfaithfulness in which they were unfaithful to Me, and that they also have walked contrary to Me,
41 and that I also have walked contrary to them and have brought them into the land of their enemies;if their uncircumcised hearts are humbled, and they accept their guiltโ
42 then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham I will remember;
I will remember the land.
Remember this, for restoration, God called for those who call themselves to be His to repent, not the โovertโ sinners in the landโฆ
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NKJV)
14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land
To many, so-called patriotism has become a form of idolatry. Pride will destroy American before anything else does.”
So many times we are told what we should do, but not told how to do it. It’s easy to teach and preach what the bible says, but it doesn’t do much good if you don’t give people the tools to do it.
One great example is when we’re told to love our enemies. We all know and acknowledge what Jesus teaches us…
Matthew 5:43-48 (NKJV)
43 โYou have heard that it was said, โYou shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.โ44 [a]But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your [b]brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the [c]tax collectors do so? 48 Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.
But, we all know that can be easier said than done. Especially what he, she or they wish for and work to your harm. It’s difficult when they try to influence other people against you. God never said it was easy, just possible.
God has really dealt with me concerning this. One of the people who greatly encouraged me to create this blog eventually became a person who not only worked against me, but influenced other people against me.
We also know what God teaches us through the apostle Paulโฆ
Romans 12:14 (NKJV)
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Romans 12:17-21 (NKJV)
17 Repay no one evil for evil. Have[a] regard for good things in the sight of all men. 18 If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. 19 Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, โVengeance is Mine, I will repay,โsays the Lord. 20 Therefore โIf your enemy is hungry, feed him;
If he is thirsty, give him a drink;
For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.โ 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
I see other people on the news who hate me because of my race, my faith, my beliefs, and these are people I’ve never met.
In fact, one of the people who greatly encouraged me to create this blog eventually became a person who not only worked against me, but influenced other people against me.
So, how do you pray for people who hate you? It’s much easier said than done, especially when someone wishes for and works towards your harm, tries to influence others to hate or hurt your, or when someone hurts someone very dear to you.
HERE ARE 7 SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO PRAY FOR YOUR ENEMIES…
1. ASK GOD TO SHOW YOU IF & WHERE YOU’RE WRONG
Before you approach God about anyone you consider an enemy, make sure you first ask God to reveal to you if you are wrong in the issue, matter or paradigm. Even if you are 100 percent right, ask God to forgive you if you have allowed the enemy to harden your heart beyond God’s required love for your enemy. We must first consider ourselves before we begin to ‘judge’ anyone else…
Matthew 7:1-5 (NKJV)
7 โJudge[a]not, that you be not judged.2 For with what[b]judgment you judge, you will be judged;and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you.3 And why do you look at the speck in your brotherโs eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?4 Or how can you say to your brother, โLet me remove the speck from your eyeโ; and look, a plank is in your own eye?5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brotherโs eye.
2. PRAY FOR THEIR FAITH IN GOD TO BE ESTABLISHED & INCREASE
We must always remember that God doesn’t love our enemies any less than He loves us. They were created in His image too. God has called us all to be ministers of reconciliation. So, whether your enemy is an unbeliever or if they are a believer, if they are acting outside His will and character, it’s His desire that they be brought back into right relationship with Him. That’s where our prayers come in. God expects us to be ministers of reconciliation to Him…
2 Corinthians 5:17-20 (NKJV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not [a]imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christโs behalf, be reconciled to God.
3. PRAY FOR THEIR REPENTANCE
If we aren’t careful, someone can hurt us or someone we love to the point that we can find ourselves not wanting them to repent. That will take away our excuse to be angry at them. But, it’s Gods will that everyone repent and turn to Him…
2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)
9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward [a]us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
4. PRAY FOR THEIR SALVATION
There are people that we can find so mean, evil and malicious that we don’t want them to be saved. Knowing that someone is in sin or evil is not judging them, but when we decide they are not worthy of salvation, that’s judgement and condemnation. What if God thought you not worthy of salvation when you were at your worst? And, as Matthew 7:1-2 reminds us, what ever judgement we are placing on someone else we are placing that same judgment on ourselves. Plus, if your enemy is a Christian and they are just in a hardhearted, backslidden, or weak moment, you may be placing condemnation on yourself as well…
Isaiah 54:17(NKJV)
17 No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,โ Says the Lord.
So, always ask God to forgive you for any judgment or condemnation you have placed on someone.
5. PRAY THAT THEY PRODUCE GOOD FRUIT
It’s also God’s will that we all lead fruitful and productive lives…
John 15:8 (NKJV)
8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit;so you will be My disciples.
John 15:16 (NKJV)
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you andappointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Fatherin My name He may give you.
Once your enemy is sincerely leading a fruitful life, they can no longer truly be your enemy. You are then on the same team working for the same kingdom goals. Even if you aren’t necessarily friends, you will no longer be enemies.
6. PRAY SINCERELY, NOT TRYING TO MANIPULATE GOD TO GIVE YOU REVENGE
It’s a dangerous thing asking God to give someone what they deserve: SO YOU THINK THEY GOT WHAT THEY DESERVEDโฆREALLY??? Again, that’s judgment, especially when God hasn’t given any of us what we deserve. Too many times people take Romans 12:20 out of context. They merely want to pray for their enemy or even help them to ‘heap coals of fire on their head’. That is the wrong motivation. Sometimes people can even say, “I’m praying for you as an insult, rather than in sincerity: NEVER LET YOUR โGOD BLESS YOUโ REALLY MEAN โF*** YOUโโฆ
7. PRAY THAT GOD FORGIVES YOU FOR BEING SOMEONE’S ENEMY
We all have situations in our lives that we have been or are someone’s enemy. Not because they just don’t like us, but because we have done them wrong. We have worked against them. We have spoken evil against them. This could even be someone who we don’t know or doesn’t know us…It could be a public figure. Even though it’s wrong for them to do so, we have given some people good reason to hate us. Always ask God to forgive you for when you’re someone else’s enemy.
Romans 3:23 (NKJV)
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Praying for our enemies in sincerity isn’t easy, but it is possible.
Weโre Both Using Scripture, So Whose Right?mi mi
Itโs undeniable that sincere, devoted Christians donโt always agree on the interpretation and application of Godโs wordโฆthe bible.
How many times have you been in a discussion and someone uses scripture to support โtheirโ point and you think to yourself, โUmmm, thatโs not what that means.
One of the main reasons that there are so many different groups or denominations within Christianity is because sincere Christians donโt agree on what was meant by what God said in His inspired word.
โOnce Saved Always Savedโ
No music instrumental music in worship service
Speaking in Tongues
Proper dress for men or women
Female ministers and pastors
Proper day to worship
Should we celebrate holidays
Tithing
Clean and unclean foods
Should there be priest in church
Is it a sin to drink alcohol
These are just a few of the points in which sincere Christians disagree, unfortunately sometimes to the point of contention. Whether it be huge doctrinal issues or individual disagreements in navigating โreal lifeโ situations, too many times Christians are at odds when the word of God clearly saidโฆ
1 Corinthians 1:10 (NKJV)
10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
Jesus Christ Himself was continually called a devil because He challenged how the religious elite interpreted and viewed the scriptures.
So, how do you know who is right and who is wrong? NO ONE!
Itโs not about US being right or wrong, but who is in harmony with Godโs truth. We must be careful not to fall into the mindset of trying to prove we are right. We didnโt create the world. We didnโt die on the cross. We have no authority to be โRIGHTโ.
So our goal isnโt to be right, but to be in agreement with Godโs truth. We can only have unity in the body of Christ when we adopt this mindset. Here are a few ways to tell who is in harmony with Godโs truth.
Those who are willing toโฆ
ACCEPT NO GROUP HAS IT ALL RIGHT
Itโs interesting how groups and denomonations are so different, but each thinks they are โthe closet to the truthโ. As we grow in our faith, we realize that God doesnโt change, but our theology evolves and changes. Thatโs what Jesus did. He challenged their theology. Look at some of Jesusโ statement I Matthew 5โฆ
Matthew 5:17(NKJV)
17 โThink not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfillโฆโ
27 โYou have heard it saidโฆโ
31 โFurthermore it has been saidโฆโ
33 Again you have heard it was said to those of oldโฆโ
We have to mature and secure enough to realize that we can challenge our theology, grow and change our thinking without implying that the word or God has changed. Every group, just as the religious leaders in the New Testament has to be willing to accept that they are currently believing and practicing some things that ARE NOT in harmony with Godโs truth.
God answers prayers! I’m a witness that He has answered countless specific prayers, intercessions and supplications for me. However, there are situations when God rejects our prayers. We can’t ignore this.
God has given us examples in the Old Testament of the behaviors that causes Him to reject the prayers of His people. However, rejection and punishment always came with a promise.
Please go back and do a dedicated bible study from the perspective of what provoked God to ‘hide His face’ and reject the prayers of His people.
Remember, idols aren’t just made of stone or wood. The devil knows he can’t convince you to ‘bow down’ to a statue. Stop and think about the ‘modern-day’ works of our hands. “…and covetousness, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5).
Isaiah 2:7-8 (NKJV)
7 Their land is also full of silver and gold, And there is no end to their treasures; Their land is also full of horses, And there is no end to their chariots. 8 Their land is also full of idols; They worship the work of their own hands, That which their own fingers have made.
Deuteronomy 32:20-22 (NKJV)
20 And He said: โI will hide My face from them, I will see what their end will be, For they are a perverse generation, Children in whom is no faith. 21 They have provoked Me to jealousy by what is not God; They have moved Me to anger by their [a]foolish idols. But I will provoke them to jealousy by those who are not a nation; I will move them to anger by a foolish nation. 22 For a fire is kindled in My anger, And shall burn to the [b]lowest [c]hell; It shall consume the earth with her increase, And set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
Jeremiah 32:28-32 (NKJV)
28 Therefore thus says the Lord: โBehold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it. 29 And the Chaldeans who fight against this city shall come and set fire to this city and burn it, with the houses on whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke Me to anger; 30 because the children of Israel and the children of Judah have done only evil before Me from their youth. For the children of Israel have provoked Me only to anger with the work of their hands,โ says the Lord. 31 โFor this city has been to Me a provocation of My anger and My fury from the day that they built it, even to this day; so I will remove it from before My face 32 because of all the evil of the children of Israel and the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke Me to angerโthey, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Ezekiel 8:3-18 (NKJV)
3 He stretched out the form of a hand, and took me by a lock of my hair; and the Spirit lifted me up between earth and heaven, and brought me in visions of God to Jerusalem, to the door of the north gate of the inner court, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes[a] to jealousy. 4 And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was there, like the vision that I saw in the plain.
5 Then He said to me, โSon of man, lift your eyes now toward the north.โ So I lifted my eyes toward the north, and there, north of the altar gate, was this image of jealousy in the entrance.
6 Furthermore He said to me, โSon of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel commits here, to make Me go far away from My sanctuary? Now turn again, you will see greater abominations.โ 7 So He brought me to the door of the court; and when I looked, there was a hole in the wall. 8 Then He said to me, โSon of man, dig into the wallโ; and when I dug into the wall, there was a door.
9 And He said to me, โGo in, and see the wicked abominations which they are doing there.โ 10 So I went in and saw, and thereโevery sort of creeping thing, abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, [b]portrayed all around on the walls. 11 And there stood before them seventy men of the elders of the house of Israel, and in their midst stood Jaazaniah the son of Shaphan. Each man had a censer in his hand, and a thick cloud of incense went up. 12 Then He said to me, โSon of man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the room of his idols? For they say, โThe Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.โ โ
13 And He said to me, โTurn again, and you will see greater abominations that they are doing.โ 14 So He brought me to the door of the north gate of the Lordโs house; and to my dismay, women were sitting there weeping for [c]Tammuz.
15 Then He said to me, โHave you seen this, O son of man? Turn again, you will see greater abominations than these.โ 16 So He brought me into the inner court of the Lordโs house; and there, at the door of the temple of the Lord, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men with their backs toward the temple of the Lord and their faces toward the east, and they were worshiping the sun toward the east.
17 And He said to me, โHave you seen this, O son of man? Is it a trivial thing to the house of Judah to commit the abominations which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence; then they have returned to provoke Me to anger. Indeed they put the branch to their nose. 18 Therefore I also will act in fury. My eye will not spare nor will I have pity; and though they cry in My ears with a loud voice, I will not hear them.โ
Everything written in the Old Testament was for our example today…
1 Corinthians 10:6-11 (NKJV)
6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. 7 And do not become idolaters as were some of them. As it is written, โThe people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.โ 8 Nor let us commit sexual immorality, as some of them did, and in one day twenty-three thousand fell; 9 nor let us [a]tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed by serpents; 10 nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed by the destroyer. 11 Now [b]all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our [c]admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
“I think I’ll relax and read my bible over A glass of wine”
โI think I’ll relax and study my bible over a glass of wineโ. Uh oh! Iโm quite certain that statement made many of my fellow Christians cringe. I’m sure it may push limits of some people’s personal theology…many of my fellow Christians will quickly tell you that you shouldnโt defile the temple of God (and we shouldn’t).
Many of my fellow Christians will piously tell you, “Ohhh no! I donโt drink alcoholโ, while at the same time many of the same people consume huge amounts of sugar, fat, sodium, artificial ingredients, smoke, over-the-counter and prescription drugs etc., etc., etc., that they know are harmful to their bodies, or temples of God (1 Corinthians 6:19).
Many Christians who’ve been diagnosed medical conditions knowingly eat foods and drink beverages that even though they arenโt wine, are harmful to their bodies and adversely affect their healthโฆbut, they would never be CAUGHT drinking a glass of wine.
Yes, the bible says that we are NOT to โget drunk with wineโโฆ
Ephesians 5:18 (ESV)
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,
โฆgetting drunk is a sin and a work of the fleshโฆ
Galatians 5:20-21 (ESV)
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
HOWEVER, there is a huge difference in DRINKING a glass of wine and getting DRUNK with wine.
1 Timothy 5:23 admonishes us that there are health benefits to consuming a LITTLE wine in moderation.
1 Timothy 5:23 English Standard Version (ESV)
23 (No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.)
Drinking wine is not a sin, but drinking too much isโฆ
Drinking cola isnโt a sin, but if itโs detrimental to your health, drinking too much isโฆ
Eating candy isnโt a sin, but if itโs detrimental to your health, eating too much isโฆ
Eating is not a sin, but eating too much isโฆ
Philippians 3:19 English Standard Version (ESV)
Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.
Being at a gathering where thereโs wine is not a sin. There was wine at the wedding Jesus attended in Cana recorded in John Chapter 2. It was real wineโฆnot unfermented wine as some try to claim to justify their over zealousness. Wine was a staple in the bible. Jesus was observed consuming wine because they accused Him of being a โwinebibberโ, drunkard and a glutton. (However He did not get drunk)
Matthew 11:19 (ESV)
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, โLook at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!โ Yet wisdom is justified by her deeds.โ
Wine was consumed during the Passover Feastโฆthe fact is that when the wine ran out during the wedding, Jesus โboughtโ the drinks. Jesus didnโt say, they have wine at that wedding party, so I wonโt attend, but thatโs exactly what many Christians today would say.
Again, Iโm not advocating getting drunk. Getting drunk IS a sin. But I am saying that wine, just like many other food and drinks is okay in moderation, and many Christians who โtripโ over drinking a glass of wine consume non-alcoholic foods and beverages into their bodies that are harmful or in quantities that are SINFUL.
Remember what the Apostle Paul saidโฆ
1 Corinthians 6:12
โAll things are lawful for me,โ but not all things are helpful. โAll things are lawful for me,โ but I will not be dominated by anything.
1 Corinthians 10:23
โAll things are lawful,โ but not all things are helpful. โAll things are lawful,โ but not all things build up.
I must be responsible and tell you that if you have a drinking problem, that it’s BEST THAT YOU CONSUME NO WINE, just as if you have an allergy to peanuts it’s best you CONSUME NO PEANUTS. Also, if your drinking wine makes someone in the faith weaker, it’s best that you don’t drink it in their presence. Read Romans 14:13-23 as Paul explains how we must consider those who are weaker in the faith in things that are permissible for us.
The most important thing for us to remember as Christians is MODERATION โ ALL THINGS IN MODERATION.
Think about this, God made all of us. We are all His creation. He gave us all strengths, abilities, talents, gifts and virtues to advance His kingdom and to sustain our livesโฆ
2 Peter 1:3 (NKJV)
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
However, if we are born with innate strengths, we are also born with innate weaknesses, inabilities, and vices. No matter how hard we try, there are some things we just canโt do, or naturally can’t help without the help of God or one another.
I think God does this to create interdependence and balance among those created in His image.
Some people are physically stronger than others.
Some people are โsmarterโ than others in certain areas, but everyone is โsmartโ in something. For example, some people are great at math, but horrible and writing, and vice versa. (My wife was a math teacher, I used to tease her by saying, โget a respectable jobโ because math is my weakness, while sheโs not fond of writing, and concedes that itโs her weakness.)
Some people are not mechanically inclined and need help screwing in a light bulb, but may be a genius at technology.
Some people are unfortunately born disabled.
Some people naturally have a bad temper that was even evident when they were infants or toddlers. They didn’t ask for it…itโs a weakness.
Some people naturally have trouble managing money and resources, while others are excellent at it.
Some people are born naturally predisposed to get high blood pressure or even born with chronic ailments.
Some people naturally have trouble focusing, which limits their ability to learn.
Some people have an insatiable sexual appetite…like Solomon the son of David and wisest man to ever live (1 Kings 11:1).
Now, I know this is going to mess up some peoplesโ theology, but I believe that some people did not ask to be or choose to be attracted to people of his or her own sex. Just because I don’t have that particular weakness, it’s wrong for me to declare, that someone else chose it. Itโs a weakness they are ‘born with’; that is no different than a heterosexual person whoโs unquenchable sexual desire leads them to be promiscuousโฆwe are all born with weaknesses and lusts that we didn’t ask for (Psalm 51:5).
Some people are naturally flirtatious. Even when they are married the find that they continue to love attention that could lead to emotional and physical intimacy. It doesn’t automatically go away if they get married. It doesn’t mean they don’t want to be married. It doesn’t mean they don’t love their spouse. It just means that they have to depend on God with the help of His Holy Spirit to fight those weaknesses. As much as God can deliver us from our weaknesses, and lusts, He would much rather we deny our flesh out of love for Him and resist our weaknessesโฆ
Matthew 16:24 (NKJV)
24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, โIf anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Some weaknesses may never go away, you have to overcome them just like Paulโฆ
2 Corinthians 12:8-10 (NKJV)
8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, โMy grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. โTherefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christโs sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
So, hereโs the good news. God does not hold us hostage to the weaknesses that He gave us, He just expects us to be responsible with them, which in turn is designed to enhance our relationships with Him.
Whether it be physical, mental or even spiritual God has made provision for our weaknesses through faith and relationship in Him and through His Holy Spiritโฆ
Romans 8:26 (NKJV)
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession [a]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
When we deny the works of the flesh, which the enemy uses to exploit our weaknesses, we grow stronger and closer to God.
Galatians 5:16-21 (NKJV)
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: [a]adultery, [b]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, [c]murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
God is able snatch us out of the consequences of our bad decisions and weakness, for example someone who is very poor with managing money can be blessed with success beyond their ability or educationโฆeven if He connects them with the right people. Or, God is able to pair a person who is โsexually weakโ with a spouse strong enough to patiently see them through their weakness with which they sincerely struggleโฆsometimes for a lifetime. How are you the designated strong person in your various relationships?
But check this out, God is also able to deliver us from the temptationโฆ
2 Peter 2:9 (NKJV)
9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,
But, He would prefer that we resist the enemy and willingly put forth every effort to โset asideโ those weaknesses of both FLESH AND SPIRIT that can come between us and Him if we allow them.
2 Corinthians 7:1(NKJV)
7 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV)
12 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
He wants us to do this out of the same love for Him, as we want those we love to choose NOT to do things to hurt us. Not only because of the consequences of losing possibly relationship with us, but out of genuine love, concern and the desire not to hurt us.
God has equipped us to resist the enemy with a promiseโฆ
James 4:7 (NKJV)
7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
And, given us the tools and resources of prayer and His Holy Spirit to help us, even when we donโt know what to say (Romans 8:26).
God doesn’t hold us hostage to our weakness. He doesn’t condemn us for our weaknesses. He gives us power over them.
Romans 8:1-10(NKJV)
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be [b]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the [c]carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
So be responsible with your weaknesses and lusts. Being born with them is not an excuse or necessarily a curseโฆ
So many times we, in the Body of Christ, are very quick to blame God’s wrath and judgement on those who don’t believe and are practicing the works of the flesh. And, God has promised that those who practice the works of the flesh and continue in sin will be ‘dealt with’….
Galatians 5:19-21 (NKJV)
19Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: [a]adultery, [b]fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, [c]murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Romans 6:23 (NKJV)
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the [a]gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
However, when you carefully read the word of God, especially in the Old Testament, you will find that God’s judgment on His people was NEVER because of the sin of unbelievers, pagans or heathens…it was ALWAYS because of either THEIR OWN SIN, COMPROMISE, HYPOCRISY and ASSIMILATION or because of the SIN OF THE LEADER (KING).
First of all, remember that every thing that is written in the Old Testament, especially the catastrophic, sometimes unbelievable and admittedly difficult to understand acts of judgment, such as commanding everything alive to be killed, the ground opening up and swallowing entire families, a man being stoned for picking up sticks on the day of rest, and His people being exiled were written for our example…
1 Corinthians 10:11 (NKJV)
11 Now [a]all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our [b]admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
They were extreme examples to let us know God’s heart. It let us know how much some behavior pissed Him off.
That being said, now read carefully through Judges, 1st & 2nd Kings, 1st & 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi making a point to notice how God reacts to the behavior of His people.
Yes, God pronounced judgement on pagans, as when He told Israel to destroy Ai in Joshua Chapter 8.
But, notice that Israel suffered drought, famine and exile not because of heathens, but because of their own spiritual adultery. That’s why He made the promise to His people in 2 Chronicles Chapter 7 as a reminder of this…
2 Chronicles 7:13-14 (NKJV)
13 When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among MY PEOPLE, 14 if MY PEOPLE who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Israel and Judah were exiled into Babylon because of their own sin.
The entire nation suffered because of the sins of unrighteous leaders who did not seek Godly counsel nor listen to God. These were Kings who put their trust in the military rather than God…
Psalm 33:16 (NLT)
16 The best-equipped army cannot save a king, nor is great strength enough to save a warrior.
The entire nation of Israel was punished because of leaders who were arrogant, ungodly, unrepentant, and vengeful. They used religion for their own agenda, such as King Jeraboam (Read 1 Kings Chapter 12). Yes, they were ordained by God. Some of them were great builders and had many successful projects, but their arrogance established the culture in the nation and set up His people to sin.
King Herod was very fond of John the Baptist. He loved listening to him and even protected him. He was a great builder and politician, but he was an enemy of Christ.
Mark 6:20 (NKJV)
20 for Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him. And when he heard him, he [a]did many things, and heard him gladly.
We all know that in 70 A.D. Jerusalem was destroyed. Yeshua even lamented about how He longed to protect HIS own people, but they wouldn’t have His protection…
Matthew 23:37-38 (NKJV)
37 โO Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 38 See! Your house is left to you desolate;
So, here is my warning to those inAmerica or any other nation who calls themselves disciples of Christ. I know many Americans fear socialism, illegal immigration, radical muslim influence and the loss of the nation but remember this…
Even though God set the example of allowing violent judgement upon heathens in the Old Testament…
ISRAEL LOST THEIR NATION, WAS EXILED AND THEIR TEMPLE DESTROYED NOT BECAUSE OF SINNERS BUT BECAUSE OF THEIR OWN SIN, COMPROMISE, HYPOCRISY andASSIMILATION or because of the SIN OF THE LEADER (KING).
Please don’t take my word for it. Take your time (because it’s not a one day read or study), pray for wisdom, read and study it for yourself.
Also remember that every prophet called in the Old Testament that had harsh warnings from God had their messages rejected by the people of God.
What they did to you hurt you to the core! It temporarily broke your spirit. It made your very soul ache. They may have totally disregarded your feelings; put you to open shame; caused you to lose money and friendships you may never get back, or betrayed you in a way that you initially felt was beyond forgiveness.
But, you remembered two important things…
One, that God has commanded and demanded that we forgive everyone just as He forgives us, over and over again…
Ephesians 4:32 (NKJV)
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
Matthew 18:21-22 (NKJV)
21 Then Peter came to Him and said, โLord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?โ
22 Jesus said to him, โI do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.
Two, the relationship is important to you, and you don’t want it to end in spite of what they did…
You didn’t want the marriage, relationship or friendship to end. So, in your heart was the desire to forgive…and you forgave them.
Yes, in your heart you forgave them and do everything in your power to move on beyond what happened. But, as much as you try to forgive and forget…things happen to remind you.
A song…
A scent…
A place…
A phrase…
A thought…
They may have brought up something again that you did, and it quickly makes you think about what they did to you.
There will always be triggers that will bring what they did back to your mind, and the thought will sometimes hurt you again, make you cry, make you angry, make you feel weak…and you will have to silently forgive them over and over again.
Manage your triggers, and remember this…
When the God encourages us to forget the past through the Apostle Paul, it doesn’t mean you will never remember what happened, but the frame of mind you were in.
Philippians 3:13 (NKJV)
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have [a]apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
Much like when you no longer love romantically an ex from years ago, you remember the relationship, but can’t remember the affection you had for them.
So, don’t feel bad if you can’t completely get it out of your mind. Just continue to not let the thought affect your relationship with them once you’ve forgiven them.
Remember that forgiveness is a process that continues throughout the life of any relationship.
God teaches us in His word that wise counsel is priceless…
Proverbs 19:20-21 (NKJV)
20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days.
21 There are many plans in a manโs heart, Nevertheless the Lordโs counselโthat will stand.
It’s good to get the benefit from the experience of others. But do you know anyone whose advice you really don’t want? Why? How do people feel about taking advice from you? Why?
Do people make any of these statements about you?
Is _____________ going to be there?
Is______________ going with us?
Are you inviting _________________?
Oh no! Here comes _______________?
HERE ARE 5 REASONS WHY PEOPLE MAY NOT WANT TO TAKE YOUR ADVICE…
1. YOU CAN’T HAVE A CONVERSATION WITHOUT GIVING ADVICE…
Some people don’t know how to have a conversation without giving advice. I know a young man who didn’t have his father around when he grew up. All the men in his life felt they had to mentor him. That’s fine, but not all the time.! They would never just laugh and talk. Never could just tell jokes. And, if jokes were told, it was about how the young man wasn’t doing something right. “If I were you I would…”, “When are you going to…”, “Ha, Ha, Ha, that’s not how you do that, here let me show you…” He got to the point that he dreaded when they came around. “Oh know, here comes Uncle ________” he thought. Remember this. Every moment doesn’t have to be a teaching moment. Every situation doesn’t have to be a lesson. And, people don’t learn by making fun of what they do wrong.
2. YOU AREN’T A GOOD EXAMPLE…
I had a barber once who loved to give advice about healthy eating. That was fine be he couldn’t cut my hair without his stomach rubbing against me. I also have an acquaintance who is always full of financial advice, but he is not doing very well financially himself. And, most parents get frustrated when people who have never had children try to advice them how to raise their children. I’m not saying people with children can’t give advice, or that you can’t learn from someone else’s financial mistakes, or that someone overweight can’t advice someone else on how to lose weight. But, I am saying that
3. YOU ARE ARROGANT & CONDESCENDING…
Yes, we see your level of success. Yes, we see that you’ve made great decisions. But, know we aren’t looking for advice every time you come around. Because when you give that advice you act as though everyone else is so stupid. When you give advice you belittle what they have done well. When you give advice, your tone is so mean that your advice goes unheard.
4. YOU USE IT AS AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF & FEED YOUR OWN EGO…
These people really aren’t concerned about helping you, they just want an opportunity to glorify themselves. No, we are not interested in how well you planned, how smart you were, or how hard you worked. Because guess what, we planned carefully too. We made intelligent decisions too. We worked very hard too, but sometimes things just don’t work out. Ask any entrepreneur who had a strong business plan, researched their market, sacrificed for their business, put in ‘blood, sweat, and tears’ and because of factors beyond their control, things didn’t work out.
I’m not saying that unsolicited isn’t good sometimes, but most of the time, if people want your advice, they will ask you. If you notice that someone needs some help and aren’t willing to ask, find a way to BE an example of the behavior that you feel could benefit from their experience. Be creative. Pray and ask God for wisdom, or even let the know you’re available if needed, but blurting out unsolicited advice can be so insulting that it goes unheard.
Remember, advice is only good if it received, so stop, think, and pray before you speak into someone’s life.
The next time you get some unwanted advice, come back to this list to see how many reasons apply.
Having you ever noticed a child throwing a temper tantrum when he or she doesnโt get something that they want? This is a natural reaction that must be overcome as the child matures. The reaction is naturalโฆinnateโฆthe child was born with it.
As you know, the debate continues as to whether people are born gay, or is it a choice. The purpose of this article isn’t to debate that question, but to address this fact…
The truth is that we are all born with innate desires, feelings and proclivities that we did not ask for.
Many Christians reason to excuse some behaviors by saying, โI or they was or were born this wayโ.
This doesnโt mean that God made a mistake because the scripture clearly reminds us that we were all born in sinโฆ
Psalm 51:5 (NKJV)
Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.
We were all born with desires we didnโt ask forโฆthat doesnโt make them ALL okay. Just because it comes naturally doesnโt make right. Some natural desires we must resist with the help of the Holy Spiritโฆ
Fornicationโฆ
Adulteryโฆ
Homosexualityโฆ
Gluttonyโฆ
Greedโฆ
Jealousyโฆ
Envyโฆ
Wrath โฆ
โฆALL come from natural desires and they are ALL EQUALLY wrong.
Even David, a man after Godโs own heart was born with an insatiable desire for womenโฆbut that did not make it right or acceptable to God. Those who read the bible know what that led to.
Some people are naturally more greedy, more lustful, more promiscuous, more selfish, more aggressive, more violent that othersโฆdoes that make it okay? For those who wish to argue these are learned behaviors, some people have these behaviors modeled and โlearnโ them, while others witnessed these behaviors and didnโt succumb to them.
Pedophiles donโt feel they โchooseโ to be attracted to childrenโฆdoes that make it okay? No!
The desires of our flesh war against our spiritโฆand these vary from person to person.
Galatians 5:17 (NKJV)
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.
It is only by walking in the Fruit of the Spirit can we overcome our fleshly desires that displease God.
Galatians 5:16 (NKJV)
I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
Galatians 5:22,23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
By the way, calling out something as sin is NOT judging. And, it’s not saying it’s any more wrong than another sin!
Thatโs why fasting is so powerful. It is a tool we can use to bring our flesh into subjection, overcome our weaknesses and prove to ourselves that our desires wonโt rule us. Itโs our tool to move those mountains in our lives.
Matthew 17: 20-21
20 So Jesus said to them, โBecause of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, โMove from here to there,โ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21 However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting
Use this as post ammunition when someone presents to you the argument, โI was born this way, so it canโt be wrongโ.
Just because itโs natural, doesnโt mean itโs okay.
One of the best ways for a teacher to establish his or her classroom culture and expectations is by modeling that behavior.
The tone of our culture troubles me.
Our society has legitimized a culture of insults, profanity and retaliation.
This behavior is being modeled by too many of our leaders, while being justified, excused, ignored and mimicked by their supporters.
People are so impressed by โkeeping it realโ, telling it like it is, and avoiding being Politically Correct that many have lost the value of exercising Emotional Intelligence, tact, kindness and restraint.
Too many people see being loud, proud, obnoxious and visceral as strength, while seeing meekness, humility and patience as weakness.
Our children are having IMMATURE, NEGATIVE and SINFUL BEHAVIOR modeled and legitimized every day.
Even in our movies, we feel the โbullied nerdโ is weak until he or she stands up to the bully violently.
Remember, Yeshua Himself said donโt repay evil with evil, but turn the other cheek. He said donโt resist an evil person (unless of course your life is threatened). But of course, striking back if someone slaps you isnโt about self-defense, but pride. Returning an insult with an insult is about pride.
Matthew 5:39 (NKJV)
39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
Adults who call themselves disciples of Christ are going to have to do a better job of setting the example of walking in the Fruit of the Spirit, which the world sees as weakness.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Our children are learning to fight instead of keep the peace…
They’re learning to argue instead of reason…
They are learning to place blame and accuse instead of looking for solutions…
Theyโre learning to hate instead of love…
They are learning to make excuses to satisfy their will instead of Godโs will.
Could many of our childish adults be the children who were spoiled when they were growing up? Itโs time to stop the erosion of decorum in leadership, business, politics…and especially in Chrisitanity.
