WHEN YOU GIVE UP YOUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH FOR YOUR JOB OR CAREER…

Most American’s are passionate and protective of their right to free speech…

Or are we?

How many people have willingly signed away their right to free speech because of their job or career.

Companies, school systems, municipalities, government agencies, and even religious organizations don’t want their employees making them ‘look bad’ or liable; so they make one of the conditions of employment a contract that ‘limits’ what they can say publicly if they are to remain employed.

I’m talking about speech that’s respectful and responsible, not reckless.

Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV)

29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary [a]edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

Colossians 4:6 (NKJV)

Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.

Are you free to say what you want to say about your company and where they stand on issues?

Are you free to say how you feel about the culture of your organization without fear of retaliation?

Is there something that you want to responsibly express or share about your organization… about your faith… about what’s in your heart, but if you do so you know you could lose your job?

How many people endure toxic cultures, bullying, inequity, unfair policies, abuse of authority, basically from people who are merely ‘working for a living’ just like them because they fear losing their job…career…even their retirement?

Is that freedom of speech?

Restricting our ability to respectfully and responsibly be critical and hold accountable the leadership in our places of employment or our concerns about social or spiritual issues is quite frankly not allowed in many workplaces.

It can’t be equated to shouting ‘FIRE’ in a public place. That protects life. And there is some speech that is not protected by the constitution because it’s a threat to the ‘public good’ however, withholding what’s on our mind about our employers sometimes only protects egos, reputations and the threat of litigation.

Think about this, Americans are more free to say how they feel about their national, state and local leaders… their pastor… their loved ones… than their boss.

Many people even express their criticism to God Himself before the do so to their boss!

We are more free to tell God how we feel without fear of relaliation than the person for whom we work.

Psalm 142:1-2 (NKJV)

I cry out to the Lord with my voice;
With my voice to the Lord I make my supplication.
I pour out my complaint before Him;
I declare before Him my trouble.

God is more willing to ‘reason with us’ than many of our places of employment.

Isaiah 1:18 (NKJV)

18 โ€œCome now, and let us reason together,โ€
Says the Lord,
โ€œThough your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.

Is you freedom of speech that’s protected by the Constitution, surrendered in your contract?

Think about it, but be careful what you say about it at work.

WHY IT’S NOT OKAY FOR COACHES TO CURSE YOUR CHILDREN…

picsart_12-13-02257329204.jpg

Isnโ€™t amazing how people give coaches a pass? They donโ€™t want the teacher or police to โ€˜curseโ€™ at their children, even if they are disruptive. They donโ€™t even want the preacher to speak too โ€˜harshlyโ€™ to or of their children โ€“ but the let the coach say what he or she wants and how he or she wants. Some will even let a coach hit their childrenโ€ฆhit not spank.

Have you ever heard anyone say they had to talk to someone ‘on their level’ to reach them, especially when they are disruptive or have harsh speech themselves.

God says very clearly that we are not to allow corrupt communication to come out of our mouthsโ€ฆ

This applies to coaches too!

Ephesians 4:29  (NKJV)

29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

He clearly tells us that we arenโ€™t to swear (an oath) or to curse ( cursing is pronouncing condemnation)โ€ฆ

Matthew 5:37 (NKJV)

37 But let your โ€˜Yesโ€™ be โ€˜Yes,โ€™ and your โ€˜No,โ€™ โ€˜No.โ€™ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

That means itโ€™s sin to say โ€œHell yes!โ€ or โ€œHell no!โ€. Jesus says that โ€œanything more is from the evil oneโ€.

To reason that it takes profanity or cursing to get the best out of someone is to imply that it takes โ€˜the evil oneโ€™ rather than God to do that. Why do people trust their children to language straight from the devil. In other words, we are saying God canโ€™t handle it, but the devil can. God forbid!

Some say it prepares them for the real world or competition. I say that teaching them how to get the best out of you according to Godโ€™s will prepares them to be light in the real world. Remember, God is sending us out like sheep among wolvesโ€ฆthatโ€™s how He prepares us.

Matthew 10:16 (NKJV)

16 โ€œBehold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore, be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

There is no game, competition or battle on earth than the one Jesus endured on the cross. There was no profanity and cursing in preparation for thatโ€ฆonly submission and humility.

If I donโ€™t curse or use profanity to get the best out of my children, Iโ€™m not going to allow a man or woman to do so when itโ€™s within my power.

Giving a coach the thumbs up to curse out or belittle your child is another way that a parent can provoke their children to wrath.

Allowing a coach to curse your children is cursing your children…

Ephesians 6:4 (NKJV)

And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.

There are plenty of coaches out there are very effective and do it the right way. But to those who donโ€™tโ€ฆGod will hold them accountable and hold the parents accountable for allowing it.

Just because our culture has normalized this behavior as acceptable doesnโ€™t make it right. Trust Godโ€™s word and not the โ€˜devilโ€™s wordsโ€™ with your children.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

WHEN SOMEONE SAYS โ€˜Iโ€™M LIVING MY TRUTHโ€™…

Psalm 26:3 (NKJV)

3 For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes,
And (A)I have walked in Your truth.

Psalm 86:11 (NKJV)

11 (A)Teach me Your way, O Lord;
I will walk in Your truth;
[a]Unite my heart to fear Your name.

If you consider yourself a disciple of Christ, you must be very careful of a popular affirmation these days…

Iโ€™m living my truth!โ€

Sometimes our truth is sin, anger, wrath, rage, lust, jealousy, prejudice, betrayal, hate, blame,a hardened heart, refusal to read Godโ€™s word, refusal to pray, forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, worshipping our desires, satisfaction of our flesh, rebellion against God.

The truth is, we canโ€™t trust our heart or our โ€˜truthโ€™ because without the truth of Godโ€™s word…itโ€™s wicked.

Jeremiah 17:9 (NKJV)

9 โ€œThe heart is deceitful above all things,
And [a]desperately wicked;
Who can know it?

BE BLESSTIFIED!

WHY GOD DOES NOT NEED AN ORIGIN STORY…

What is the beginning? When did everything ‘start’?

Genesis 1:1  (NKJV)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Time/tฤซm/noun (Oxford Online Dictionary)

  1. 1.the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.”travel through space and time”
  2. 2.a point of time as measured in hours and minutes past midnight or noon.”the time is 9:30″

If you are a parent who believes in the the Lord God of Israel from Everlasting to Everlasting through our Lord and Savior Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus the Christ) you have heard this question in some form…

“Where did God come from?”

“When was God born?”

“Who created God?”

I know most of you already know this, but please humor me so I can make my point. Besides, even the Apostle Peter let us know that we sometimes have to be reminded of what we already know…

2 Peter 1:12-13 (NKJV)

12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. 13 Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this [a]tent, to stir you up by reminding you,

God introduced Himself to the world of many beliefs and many ‘gods’ through the perspective of a people He raised up to create a faith. FAITH, NOT RACEโ€ฆ

He created this people through a man named Abram, later changing his name to Abraham…

Genesis 12:1-3  (NKJV)

โ€œGet out of your country,
From your family
And from your fatherโ€™s house,
To a land that I will show you.
I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you

And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.โ€

I love the way that the bible refers to God as “The Lord God of Israel from Everlasting to Everlasting” in so many places. Yes, it’s a mouthful. Yes, it’s a lot to type, but it is exactly who He is…

Psalm 41:13  (NKJV)

13 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel
From everlasting to everlasting!
Amen and Amen.

Psalm 106:48 (NKJV)

48 Blessed be the Lord God of Israel
From everlasting to everlasting!
And let all the people say, โ€œAmen!โ€

Praise the Lord!

That is the New King James Version but, look at how the Complete Jewish Bible says it…

Psalm 41:14  (CJB)

14 (13) Blessed be Adonai the God of Israโ€™el
from eternity past to eternity future.

I love that…“from eternity past to eternity future”. The thought of eternity past infers that there was NO BEGINNING.

God does not require a beginning. He does not require a birth. He does not require an origin. Why?

Because He exists outside of time.

God, Adonai, our Elohim is an eternal being that was never created. He has consciousness, emotions, feelings and the ability to communicate…but no recognizable form that our eyes can understand. GOD IS NOT โ€˜THE UNIVERSEโ€™ & THE โ€˜UNIVERSEโ€™ IS NOT GODโ€ฆ

God created TIME for our benefit. So we can measure and have context to our lives, history and the future.

Galatians 4:4-7 (CJB)

4 but when the APPOINTED TIME arrived (IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME), God sent forth his Son. He was born from a woman, born into a culture in which legalistic perversion of the Torah was the norm, so that he might redeem those in subjection to this legalism and thus enable us to be made Godโ€™s sons. Now because you are sons, God has sent forth into our hearts the Spirit of his Son, the Spirit who cries out, โ€œAbba!โ€ (that is, โ€œDear Father!โ€). So through God you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are a son you are also an heir.

Think about it. Even when scientists who say the universe BEGAN with a BIG BANG, you can ask, “Okay, what was there before the BIG BANG?”. One could very easily reason that when God said, “Let there be…” there was a noise and physical manifestation.

Some things are difficult for even the ‘greatest’ scientific minds to understand, and one of those things is TIME. After all, I think of science as our attempt to give a physical explanation to a spiritual world.

IF YOU BELIEVE IN SCIENCE, YOU CAN BELIEVE IN GOD (HEREโ€™S A PERFECT EXAMPLE)โ€ฆ

THE THINGS THAT SCIENCE CAN NEVER EXPLAIN (From my archives)โ€ฆ

FAITH VS. SCIENCEโ€ฆ

WHEN SCRIPTURE & SCIENCE AGREEโ€ฆ

The fact is there are some things we won’t understand until Yeshua returns and we share in His eternal kingdom.

Look at the mess we’ve made of the world. Look at the mess we’ve made of time. Just think of how bad it would be if God gave us the ability to understand eternity.

God doesn’t need a beginning because He IS the beginning.

WHY YOU CAN’T BRING A GUN TO A SWORD FIGHT!

20161003_201742.jpg

Early in His ministry, Jesus was confronted by the enemy as recorded in Matthew 4:1-11,  He was confronted/attacked while His FLESH was weakest. He had been fasting for 40 days. The enemy tried to catch Jesus in His flesh’s most vulnerable state. But, even though Jesus’ flesh was weak, His will was strong. Jesus knows us, and He knows our flesh gets weak too, that’s why He encourages us…

Matthew 26:41  (NKJV)

41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.โ€

Even though Jesus’ flesh was weak, His Spirit and resolve was still willing and strong.

Why?

Because He fought off the enemy’s attack with the WORD OF GOD. The word of God is our most powerful weapon against the enemy.

2 Corinthians 10:4  (NKJV)

For the weapons of our warfare are not [a]carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

As much as so many Americans are preoccupied with and put faith in their GUNS…our greatest attacks aren’t against the FLESH, but SPIRIT. Even those who attack you physically have succumbed to a spiritual attack that led them to result to violence…it started in the Spirit.

That’s why you can’t bring a gun to a sword fight!

Temptation is an attack of the enemy, and Jesus made the devil back down with the word of God in Matthew 4:1-11.

He was tempted with HUNGER (vs 3)…which many have used as an excuse for violence and theft. Jesus’ response…“IT IS WRITTEN, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God”. (vs 4)

He was tempted with PRIDE (vs 5,6)…which has led many to violence. Jesus’ response…“AGAIN IT IS WRITTEN, you shall not put the Lord your God to the test”. (vs 7)

He was tempted with POWER (vs 8,9)…which has led many to kill countless people. Jesus’ response…“Be gone Satan! FOR IT IS WRITTEN, you shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve.” (vs 10).

Verse 11 tells us that the devil fled…Jesus overcame the temptation/attack with the word of God.

Everything that leads man to violence and gun fire BEGINS with a temptation to the spirit, but Jesus taught us how to fight before the guns are drawn.

Read Matthew 4 :1-11 again for context. Read 2: Corinthians 10:1-6. Read James 4:7. And read Psalm 33:16 and remember….
YOU CAN’T BRING A GUN TO A SWORD FIGHT!

‘STRUT’ INTO SUMMER WITH GOD (Gospel Line Dance)…

King David was so excited about the return of the Ark of the Covenant that he celebrated with a public dance.

Enjoy my wife’s (Mechelle Johnson) music video featuring members of our church family doing the Walk with Me Strut to her single, “Walk with Me (Never Alone)”. It’s a derivative of an Old School classic.

The dance was choreographed by Tarri Hester Johnson.

2 Samuel 6:14-15

14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might, wearing a priestly garment.[a] 15 So David and all the people of Israel brought up the Ark of the Lord with shouts of joy and the blowing of ramsโ€™ horns.

WHEN TEACHERS VENTING ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN GOES VIRAL…

It has happened several times when COVID-19 forced many classrooms and meetings to go virtual.

A conversation among teachers, administrators or stakeholders in our children’s education was accidentally broadcast publicly and sometimes went viral.

Those conversations that have historically taken place in teachers’ lounges, empty classrooms, on telephones…privately were overheard.

Many of these conversations were moments of venting about the children they teach or unrealistic expectations placed upon them.

And, usually these are typical responses…

“What?”

“How could they say that!”

“They said they were annoyed at that child!”

“They said that child was bad!”

“They said they were glad that child didn’t come to school!”

“If they feel that way, they don’t need to be a teacher!”

“They need to resign!”

“They need to be fired!”

The fact is that every parent has vented about their own child or children. Parents know their own kids, and know when the teacher‘s complaint about their child is true. Every parent gets frustrated with their own children, and many are more than ready to send them back to school at the end of summer vacation, fall break, winter break or spring break. Parents vent about their spouse, boss, co-workers, politicians, etc…..teachers WILL vent about your kids.

Many teachers are forced to sometimes neglect their own children to fulfill the expectations place’s upon them.

Many teachers and administrators are sometimes accused of poor time management when the states and districts do a poor job of managing teacher bandwidth…equating managing to giving teachers an endless list of tasks.

With these pressures, how can anyone expect the people who have assumed responsibility for their children without being adequately compensated for the hours, level of responsibility and liability to NEVER vent about the same children with whom they sometimes lose patience.

Many don’t express how they really feel for fear of retaliation.

COME ON NOW! THAT’S NOT REALISTIC!

It’s healthy to allow teachers that space to release the pressure of teaching, co-parenting, counseling, and dealing with other people’s children.

Most of the time, after teachers have had the opportunity to ‘get that out of their system’ to their peers, spouses or friends, they go right back to giving children the love, care and patience required to do their job.

Remember these two things from scripture…

Children are going to act foolishly (be bad) sometimes.

Proverbs 22:15 (NKJV)

15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;
The rod of correction will drive it far from him.

Even Jesus got impatient with and publicly vented about ‘God’s children’.

Matthew 17:16-17 (NIV)

16 I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him.โ€

17 โ€œYou unbelieving and perverse generation,โ€ Jesus replied, โ€œhow long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me.โ€

When teachers vent about your children, don’t expect more from them than you do yourself or Jesus.

AREN’T YOU GLAD GOD ALLOWED SOME THINGS IN YOUR LIFE TO REMAIN SECRET?

wp-1472674791523.png
SHHHHHH

We know that Peter denied Christ, but that wasnโ€™t the only sin he committed. Peter committed many other sins, but we donโ€™t know what they were. God allowed them to remain secret.

We know that the Paul persecuted the church. We know that He said…

Romans 7:19 (NKJV)

19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.

…but we don’t know exactly what that evil was.

Remember, we also know that Paul had a thorn in the flesh, but God allowed it to remain secret…

2 Corinthians 12:7-9
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. 8 Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. 9 And He said to me, โ€œMy grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.โ€

Every personality God used in the bible committed some sins that God allowed to remain secret. Yes, we are supposed to confess our faults to one another (James 5:16), but that doesnโ€™t mean you have to tell ALL of your business in every detail. Some people will compel you to do so, not out of concern for you, but to satisfy their curiosity.

Yes, some people are just nosey.

WE HAVE ALL DONE THINGS WE ARE ASHAMED OF…

There are some things that you have done, and truly repented, that no one knows about. You may have squandered money or relationships in your past, but now you aren’t that person anymore. You may have struggled with depression to the point you considered suicide, but you’re far beyond that now. You may have made some poor choices with your body, but that’s not you anymore. You may have had a problem with porn, but that’s now the last thing on your mind. Arenโ€™t you glad God allowed those things to remain secret? The next time a public figure is exposed for something shameful, before you jump on the bandwagon of pointing a self-righteous finger, think of how thankful you are that God allowed your shameful moment(s) to be secret.

And, if youโ€™re presently involved in some shameful behavior… STOP IT NOW!

STOP IT NOW!

Stop it before God makes you stop it. One sure way to make some shameful behavior stop is to expose it. Stop and give God some specific praise today if He has allowed some of your SECRETS to remain SECRET. Because not only is He a PROMISE KEEPER….HE’S a SECRET KEEPER TOO.

CAN YOU BE THANKFUL FOR A JOB YOU HATE?

wp-1479131727794.jpg

How well do you sleep on Sunday nights? Do you dread Monday morningโ€ฆor whatever day may be your Monday?

Is it Monday or Mournday to you?

Yes you know that the bible tells us that we must do our jobs as if we are doing them for God Himselfโ€ฆ

Colossians 3:23-24 (NKJV)

23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ.

We all know that the bible tells us to be content no matter what our situationโ€ฆ

Philippians 4:11 (NKJV)

11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:

There is only one problem thoughโ€ฆ

You hate your job!!!!

Yes you prayed for itโ€ฆ(Maybe, sometimes we take jobs without consulting God first)

Yes you were excited when you got itโ€ฆ

Yes you gave God praise for itโ€ฆ

But, you HATE going there now!

You didnโ€™t know that the culture would be toxicโ€ฆ

You didnโ€™t know that the boss would not like youโ€ฆ

You didnโ€™t know the people would be so difficultโ€ฆ

You didnโ€™t know they would have you doing stuff thatโ€™s โ€˜not in your job description’โ€ฆ

You didnโ€™t know!!!!

BUT, for whatever reason, (and you know YOUR reason)โ€ฆYOU HATE YOUR JOB.

However, youโ€™re still thankful for your job…

You know that itโ€™s God that gives us the power, abilityโ€ฆthe sound mind to work to sustain our livesโ€ฆ

Deuteronomy 8:18 (NKJV)

18 โ€œAnd you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

You know in your heart that youโ€™re thankful for your job, but you have cognitive dissonance…you have this internal conflict because you feel guilty that you hate it.

God knew that we would have to do things we donโ€™t like, or even hate.

The inspired word of God was given to us through a culture in which indentured servitude (servants) was common. Many question slavery in the bibleโ€ฆfor a good explanation on that topic check out my article “Let’s Talk About Slavery in the Bible”.

Think about this, God gave us the instruction to โ€˜work as if unto Himโ€™ in the context of instruction for servants Colossians 3:22-25.

God knows that few people would enjoy being a servant, but still He said do it while maintaining His character and integrity.

Think of some of the โ€˜job assignmentsโ€™ given to prophets in the Old Testamentโ€ฆdo you think they loved and enjoyed every assignment?

Also think about this, during Jesusโ€™ earthly ministry He said He was doing the works given to Him by the Fatherโ€ฆ

John 9:4 (NKJV)

I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.

When Jesus was on earth in the fleshโ€ฆHe was WORKING. He was doing His job. Think about how many times that He seemed frustrated at work and with His co-workersโ€ฆ

Mark 9:19 (NKJV)

19 He answered him and said, โ€œO faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? HOW LONG SHALL I BEAR WITH YOU? Bring him to Me.

Luke 11:29New King James Version (NKJV)

29 And while the crowds were thickly gathered together, He began to say, โ€œTHIS IS AN EVIL GENERATIONโ€. It seeks a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah the prophet.

John 12:27 (NKJV)

27 โ€œNow My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? โ€˜Father, save Me from this hourโ€™? But for this purpose I came to this hour.

It is clear that Jesus had some tough โ€˜work daysโ€™. It was clear there were aspects of His โ€˜jobโ€™ and โ€˜coworkersโ€™ that He didnโ€™t like.

God made us and He knows us. He knows we arenโ€™t perfect, and when He does tell us to be perfect in the bible it means to be matureโ€ฆnot faultless.

One aspect of a mature Christian is the ability to be able to be thankful in the midst of uncomfortable situations.

God knows that conditions change on our jobs that make them more uncomfortable. The important thing to remember is that if you trust God, and if He is sovereign in your life that He is even in control of your work situation.

Donโ€™t let the desire to be released from a job that you hate prevent you from being thankful for a means to provide for yourself and, or your family.

Don’t let it give you a contagious complaining spirit, which God hates (1 Corinthians 10:10).

Acknowledge that if God still has you there, then if must be for a reason. Youโ€™re still His representative on your job setting the standard of behavior in both good and bad circumstances. There is still someone there Heโ€™s assigned you to influence and bless.

Pray for discernment for God to let you know when you’ve stayed there too long. Do you like the money? Have you gotten comfortable? Are you compromising your standards to succeed?

Sometimes if things arenโ€™t going right no matter how hard you tryโ€ฆif itโ€™s a struggle in a place you used to thriveโ€ฆ

Maybe itโ€™s Godโ€™s way of allowing things to โ€˜DRY UPโ€™โ€ฆtrying to convince you to have the faith to move on to your next assignmentโ€ฆ

Read 1 Kings Chapter 17 about how God sustained Elijah during a drought in the land by the Brook of Cherith and God had the ravens feed him. Eventually the brook dried up because God wanted Elijah to move on to the widow in Zarephath.

Sometimes God allows things to get difficult to get us to move on.

Be sensitive to the Spirit of God in your work life. Pray for discernment so you can be led by Him.

So……..let me encourage you that YES itโ€™s possible to still be THANKFUL for your job and HATE IT TOOโ€ฆthatโ€™s a sign of spiritual maturity.

If you hate your job, take a moment to thank God for it, and while youโ€™re still there, make a commitment to do it well, as if for the Lord Himself.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

FOR THOSE WHO SAY JESUS NEVER ADDRESSED HOMOSEXUALITY IN THE BIBLE…

Let me say first that I’m not excusing adultery, fornication or any other sexual sin. These sins also result from an innate, natural desire that we don’t ask for, and people make a choice to commit these sins based on that desire.

However, there are many people who are now trying to defend homosexuality by saying that Jesus never addressed it, or forbade it. They say only the Apostle Paul addressed it, and some even try to contend that he wasn’t really talking about homosexuality.

I’m going to keep this short and sweet.

We all know there are several sins that Jesus never directly addressed…

Rape…

Incest…

Domestic Abuse…

Bestiality…

Gossip…

Jealousy…

To name a few.

Jesus didn’t even say directly that getting drunk is a sin. It was indirect.

He did address marriage, fornication adultery and divorce.
And, no one disputes that the LORD only permits sex within marriage.
In Matthew Chapter 19, Jesus repeated what He Himself said as The Living Word in Genesis 5:2 , yes He was there in the beginning (Elohim, the name for God in Genesis is a plural noun)…
Matthew 19:4-5(NKJV)

4 And He answered and said to them, โ€œHave you not read that He who made[a] them at the beginning โ€˜made them male and female,โ€™[b]5 and said, โ€˜For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one fleshโ€™?[c]

The context of the conversation here is marriage and divorce. Jesus specifically calls out MALE and FEMALE in the context of marriage. This is not a cherry picked scripture.  It is Jesus in perfect harmony with what God established in the beginning.

Jesus clearly says let HIM (male) be joined to his WIFE (female), because some try to contend, ‘who says that a wife has to be a woman’.

This undeniably defines marriage as between a man and woman.

These verses (Genesis and Matthew) define marriage as between a man and woman. And, since God only permits sex within marriage, sex with any partner, heterosexual or homosexual is sin.

So yes, without saying the word ‘homosexuality’, Yeshua, Christ Jesus addressed it. Any other conclusion is conjecture…reaching…trying to fit a square peg into a triangular slot.

For those who say that it’s okay because some people are born that way, click this…JUST BECAUSE SOMEONEโ€™S โ€˜BORN THAT WAYโ€™ DOESNโ€™T MAKE IT OKAYโ€ฆ

For those who want to bring up slavery in the bible to justify their argument to defend homosexuality, click this…LETโ€™S TALK ABOUT SLAVERY IN THE BIBLEโ€ฆ

And remember, no matter what sin someone is struggling with, God expects us to love everyone without excusing or condoning the sin.

HOW TO MAKE SURE GOD ISN’T JUST YOUR ‘GOD’ LUCK CHARM…

God wants a REAL relationship with us. Itโ€™s almost become clichรฉ to say that He wants relationship and not religion, but itโ€™s very easy, if we arenโ€™t careful to slip intoโ€ฆ

Religionโ€ฆ

Ritualโ€ฆ

Even let our faith be reduced to Superstitionโ€ฆyes just like a rabbitโ€™s footโ€ฆ a good luck charm.

Itโ€™s easy just to go with the flow of what youโ€™ve been taught growing up.

Itโ€™s easy to โ€˜come to Godโ€™ simply because you are looking for something (not necessarily someone) to make your life better, or to get it on track.

It’s easy to worship and go to church because you think it’s the right thing to do.

But, God wants to be just as real to us as the people in our lives, and to be treated as such.

You spend quality time with the people you love. You communicate with the people you love (communication is talking and listening). You sacrifice for the people you love. You give to the people you love without expecting nothing but love in return. You give your life for the people you loveโ€ฆYou would die for the people you love!

So, family of God! Take a moment and look at your relationship with God to make sure that itโ€™s just thatโ€ฆrelationship. Hereโ€™s a quick relationship counseling session for your marriage with God.

Isaiah 54:5 (NKJV)

For your Maker is your husband,
The Lord of hosts is His name;
And your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel;
He is called the God of the whole earth.

ALLOW YOUR FAITH TO BE PROVEN THROUGH BEING CHALLENGED

No relationship is proven until itโ€™s challenged. No marriage. No friendshipโ€ฆNone. When a real rival or threat challenges a relationship, love is proven. Sometimes that love may be denied or even betrayed, but if it survives the challenge, then itโ€™s proven. So it goes with our faith. Our faith will be challenged. Sometimes you may doubt Godโ€™s Word. Sometimes you may wonder if Heโ€™s really there. Sometimes you may entertain other religions, but if your faith in God is strong enough, if you really believe His word is truth. If you really WANT to love Him, your faith will sustain and grow. Remember, when we present Christ to someone of another faith, we challenging their faith.

2 Corinthians 13:5 (NKJV)

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?โ€”unless indeed you are disqualified.

MAKE SURE THAT READING GODโ€™S WORD ISNโ€™T REDUCED TO A RITUALISTIC VERSE OF THE DAY

Thereโ€™s nothing wrong with reading a verse of the day if you will truly meditate on it and incorporate it into your thinkingโ€ฆinto your life. But, if you read a verse of the day simply because you think it impresses God, that you think itโ€™s going to make your day magically go well, or youโ€™re afraid something will go wrong if you donโ€™t โ€“ itโ€™s been reduced to ritual and superstition. Read a verse of the day, but never neglect not just reading, but studying Godโ€™s Word, so you can grow.

1 Peter 2:2 (NKJV)

as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,[a]

2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

DONโ€™T JUST GIVE SO YOU CAN BE BLESSED

Donโ€™t allow the promise of giving to become a stumbling block to youโ€ฆ

Malachi 3:10 (NKJV)

10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,
That there may be food in My house,
And try Me now in this,โ€
Says the Lord of hosts,
โ€œIf I will not open for you the windows of heaven
And pour out for you such blessing
That there will not be room enough to receive it.

Itโ€™s easy to allow your giving to be driven by wanting a blessing to be poured out that you don’t have room to receive. But, the true purpose of giving is so that needs can be met, ministry can go forward, and prayers can be confirmed. We should give out of genuine love for God, His people, His Kingdom and people in general How many times have you heard this scripture preached or taughtโ€ฆ

Luke 6:35 (NKJV)

35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, HOPING FOR NOTHING IN RETURN; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

Itโ€™s easy to allow giving to be reduced to a good luck charm or no different from any of your other โ€˜billsโ€™. People donโ€™t pay their car payment or mortgage because they love the finance company or bank. People don’t pay their utility bill because they love the utility company. They do it because they want to keep their car, their houseโ€ฆto keep their lights on. Donโ€™t just give because you donโ€™t want God to โ€˜cut offโ€™ your blessings. Examine your true motives and intentions as to why you give.

2 Corinthians 9:6-15 (NKJV)

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written:

โ€œHe has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever.โ€[a]

10 Now may[b] He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God. 12 For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, 13 while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men, 14 and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you. 15 Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

WITNESS TO SOMEONE WHO IS NOT A BELIEVER

Many of us witness and testify of Godโ€™s goodness to our friends, family, church family and other Christiansโ€ฆand thatโ€™s good. But, intentionally witnessing to someone who doesnโ€™t believe is a good exercise in making sure your relationship with God is real. Witnessing to unbelievers makes us vulnerable. It puts us at risk of rejection, insults, ridicule and sometimes harm. But, you donโ€™t make yourself vulnerable to that level for someone who isnโ€™t real, someone you donโ€™t love, or someone with whom your relationship isnโ€™t important. Remember we are ambassadors for Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:20 (NKJV)

20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christโ€™s behalf, be reconciled to God.

ALLOW SOME THINGS TO BE BETWEEN JUST YOU AND GOD

Have you ever had an issue, problem or situation and just needed to talk to someone? Itโ€™s good to be able to talk to people, but sometimes we have to let some situations be between us and God. We sometimes say we โ€˜take our burdens to God and leave them thereโ€™, but may not feel real peace until we have talked to a โ€˜real personโ€™. Make up in your mind that you will trust some situations ONLY to God. Pray about it, know He heard you and then feel confident that He is going to work it out to your good.

Let God be real to you! Make sure your relationship with Him is as real as any others in your life. Donโ€™t let worshiping Him become โ€˜going through the motionsโ€™.

Donโ€™t let God be your GOD luck charm.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

GOD IS NOT ‘THE UNIVERSE’ & THE ‘UNIVERSE’ IS NOT GOD…

This is not scientific or philosophical, but it is God breathed. And, there is some degree of randomness as it is for the most part stream of consciousnessโ€ฆ

More and more people are falling into modern, popular culture pantheism. They are replacing God with โ€˜The Universeโ€™.

โ€œThe universe will bring it to you.โ€

โ€œThe universe is on your side.โ€

โ€œThe universe will judge you.โ€

“The universe has heard you”

“The universe sees you”.

This doctrine is straight from the devil (who loves the fact that many don’t believe he exists).

In short, rather than acknowledging the one true, living and sovereign God, these people say everything is determined by the natural laws and natural order establishes and โ€˜maintainedโ€™ by โ€˜the universeโ€™.

And, there are some who try to actually give the universe โ€˜consciousnessโ€™. However, they donโ€™t even imply that God is the universe, but that the universe is God.

GOD IS NOT THE UNIVERSE, NOR VICE VERSA.

God created the universe..

Hebrews 11:3  (NKJV)

By faith we understand that the [a]worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Even Hebrews Chapter 3 says, โ€œthe worlds were framedโ€.

God is an eternal, invisible Spirit. Quite frankly, He is not an โ€˜old, bearded, grey-headed white dudeโ€™.

Colossians 1:15  (NKJV)

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

John 4:24  (NKJV)

24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.โ€

Romans 1:20  (NKJV)

20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and [a]Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

Science contends that the universe had a beginning. God had no beginning. Yes the bible says, โ€œIn the beginningโ€ for our benefit to reference when God began His relationship with our perception of reality and man, but an eternal God needed no beginning. It that was so, what happened before the beginning.

If the universe had to have a โ€˜beginningโ€™, by what or whom did it begin?

The universe is not alive.

The universe doesnโ€™t have a will.

Hereโ€™s the problem, science and our ability to learn and draw conclusions from what we learn is only as good as our ability to understand.

Even the brightest human minds are incapable of understanding the infinite deep knowledge of God, or even the universe.

In fact, I define science as our attempt to give a physical explanation to the spiritual.

Think about this, God is has not beginning and has no end. He cannot be created or destroyed. Sounds a lot like the Law of Thermodynamicsโ€ฆ

This law states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed,

but can only be transformed or transferred from one form to another. sounds a lot like God doesnโ€™t it?

Science looks for planets similar to earth that can sustain life, but God can create and sustain life that can live in -200 degrees below zero and breath methane gas if He so desired.

Science, philosophy and all this worldโ€™s knowledge will never be able to understand the mysteries of the universe, and definitely will never understand the wisdom of Godโ€ฆ

Isaiah 55:8-9  (NKJV)

โ€œFor My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,โ€ says the Lord.
โ€œFor as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts

People think there is no God because they feel earth is too small relative to the entire universe. But, if God chose to have life on a million planets, that would still be small relative to the entire universe. The fact is that ten million light years away, God is still God.

And, just as you canโ€™t see the internet, but can be โ€˜onโ€™ the internet in your Tennessee, while millions of others are on the internet all around the world, while someone else is on the internet in space, God can be everywhere at the same time.

Iโ€™m saying all that to say this. God is alive and He is bigger than the universe. It takes just as much faith to believe in โ€˜the universeโ€™ as it does to believe in God.

Just open your heart and believe.

1 Corinthians 1:25-31 (NKJV)

25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. 26 For [a]you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many [b]noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 28 and the [c]base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, 29 that no flesh should glory in His presence. 30 But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from Godโ€”and righteousness and sanctification and redemptionโ€” 31 that, as it is written, โ€œHe who glories, let him glory in the Lord.โ€

BE BLESSTIFIED!

WHAT IF THE ‘BIG O’ WAS TOO BIG? (God’s Wisdom in the ORGASM within Godly Marriage)…

Thy Kingdom Come…

When you stop and take look, you can see God’s wisdom in everything…and I mean EVERYTHING!

God’s first institution established in His Kingdom was the family. He put man and woman together with a plan. He told us to be fruitful and multiply because God wasn’t going to continue creating men from dust or women from men’s ribs.

God gave us the gift of physical intimacy (sex) to bring children into the world, and to enhance our marriages. God wants us to enjoy one another just as much as he wants us to enjoy Him, and that’s very clear in the bible.

Proverbs 5:19 (NKJV)

As a loving deer and a graceful doe,
Let her breasts satisfy you at all times;
And always be enraptured with her love.

Hebrews 13:4 (NKJV)

4 Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.

He even told husbands and wives to ‘take care of each other’ intimately so that neither is tempted…

1 Corinthians 7: 1-5

Now concerning the things of which you wrote to me:

It is good for a man not to touch a woman. 2 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4 The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

God made sex a physical crescendo that builds to a climactic, brief culmination of intense pleasure sought after by both those who are married and unfortunately, unmarried….We will use the euphemism ‘THE BIG O’.  Everything God did has a holy purpose. It’s not God’s fault that we misuse His gift…and what a perfect gift!

Here’s where God’s wisdom comes in.

God knew…

If we were going to ‘be fruitful and multiply’…

If we were going to have long, healthy marriages…

Our gift would need to be something we look forward to…something we crave and not something we dread.

Few people want the physical crescendo without the ‘BIG O’…

And, few people want the ‘BIG O’ to come too soon…

But, dig this!

As much as we enjoy…

As much we anticipate the ‘BIG O’.

As much as we enjoy reaching that brief moment of euphoria…God was wise enough to make it brief.

It’s brief enough for us to look forward to it, but it’s short enough for us to enjoy it.

Think about it…no one would be able to withstand 5, 10, 15 uninterrupted minutes of the ‘BIG O’. I don’t even know if our bodies could take it.

If the ‘BIG O’ was too big or too long…we would dread it.

If the ‘BIG O’ was too big we would avoid it.

There would be no ‘be fruitful and multiply’.

There would be a strain on marriages due to lack of intimacy.

Even the most holy person can admit that a well-timed ‘BIG O’ is just the pressure release valve needed sometime to relieve us of the stresses of life.

God knew just how good to make it…Just how strong to make it…and just how long to make it.

I told you when you stop and look at it, you can see God’s wisdom in EVERYTHING.

It’s easy to see why the apostle Paul proclaimed…

Romans 11:33 (NKJV)

33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

BE BLESSTIFIED!

SOMETIMES YOU CAN’T ‘HOLD IT TOGETHER’ UNTIL YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO ‘FALL APART’…

Are you one of those people who tries to be strong for everyone? Are you the type of person who doesn’t even give yourself the opportunity to ‘absorb the blow’ of the daily shocks, challenges, and tragedies of life because you are trying to be strong for everyone around you?

I just want to give you a little reminder that it’s okay to temporarily…

Fall apart…

Loose it…

Break down…

Be ‘in your feelings’.

Are you stronger that Yeshua (Jesus Christ?)…

Matthew 26:37-39 (NKJV)

37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, โ€œMy soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.โ€

39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, โ€œO My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.โ€

The Lord was about to fulfill His purpose and endure shame, humiliation, and excruciating pain until death…

Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)

looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Notice that Jesus didn’t try to hide His aguish from the disciples who were closest to Him, but He told them, “โ€œMy soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.โ€

Sometimes you can’t continue to face your challenges until you give yourself an opportunity to break down, cry and even even ask God why…

Psalm 13 (NKJV)

How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart daily?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

Consider and hear me, O Lord my God;
Enlighten my eyes,
Lest I sleep the sleep of death;
Lest my enemy say,
โ€œI have prevailed against himโ€;
Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved.

But I have trusted in Your mercy;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me.

When you read the Psalms of Lament, such as Psalm 13, God allows us to have our human moments and even ask Him, “Why?” and “How long?”, but we must always pull ourselves together and reaffirm our trust in Him.

So, go ahead cry. It doesn’t mean you’re weak, it means you’re wise.

WHEN NO ONE SEES YOU CRYโ€ฆ

WHY A PUBLIC EMBARRASSMENT DESERVES A PUBLIC APOLOGY…

wp-1482415568805.jpg
DON’T TAKE THE EASY WAY OUT WITH YOUR APOLOGY

Has anyone ever embarrassed, hurt or insulted you openly in public? Have you ever done so? Have you ever made public some information about someone later to find out that information was wrong? Have you ever defamed or slandered someone?

For whatever reason, we all openly hurt one another from time to time. Sometimes we do it on purpose, and sometimes it’s unintentional. These ‘public displays of ‘non-affection’ can leave bad impressions and potentially ruin reputations of all parties involved.

Many times when we realize what we’ve done, truly feel sorry and want to apologize.  We’ll pull the person or persons to the side and tell them, “I’m sorry… I was wrong”.

This is good but not good enough…

Acts 16:37 (NKJV)

37 But Paul said to them, โ€œThey have beaten us openly, uncondemned Romans, and have thrown us into prison. And now do they put us out secretly? No indeed! Let them come themselves and get us out.โ€

Those who heard or witnessed the embarrassment may still think you were right. Those who heard or witnessed the insult may still be influenced by what you did or said…that public embarrassment deserves a public apology.

I remember growing up in church that sometimes in testimonies, people would stand before the church and proclaim, “If I’ve ever done anything to hurt anyone here today, I’m sorry”…if you know who you hurt and what you did, this also is not good enough.

If you know that you slapped someone in the face, simply saying, “I’m sorry IF I hurt you” isn’t enough. If you slandered someone, making a blanket statement to a group that, “If I hurt SOMEONE, I’m sorry” is just not enough.

If you know what you did and who you did it to, then you need to show enough respect to call out their name.

It’s good to apologize, but if we aren’t careful, we can take the easy way out and not fully respect the person or persons that we have hurt.

Matthew 5:23-24 (NKJV)

23 Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.

Don’t take the easy way out with your apology.
BE BLESSTIFIED!!!

WHY IT’S OKAY TO ADMIT THAT WE DON’T KNOW WHY GOD DOES EVERYTHING HE DOES…

Anyone who believes in God has been asked these questions.

Most if not all believers, if they are willing to admit it to themselves, have asked some of these questions.

Not only are there some difficult things to understand in the Bible, but there are things God does today that are difficult to explain.

Why does God allow babies and children to suffer with terminal illnesses?

Why does the bible not explicitly forbid slavery?

Why does God allow abusive parents to have children, while others who would be loving, nurturing parents to go childless?

Why does God allow some people to be healed but other people, some we would even call ‘goodโ€™ people, to not be healed?

Luke 4:27 (NKJV)

2And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian.โ€

There are countless questions that atheists and some believers ask concerning God, either arrogantly or anxiously waiting for answers.

God gave us the example through the Psalms that He will allow us to question Him in humility, as long as we continue to trust Him…

Psalm 13:1-2 (NKJV)

How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long shall I take counsel in my soul,
Having sorrow in my heart daily?
How long will my enemy be exalted over me?

Consider and hear me, O Lord my God;
Enlighten my eyes,
Lest I sleep the sleep of death;
Lest my enemy say,
โ€œI have prevailed against himโ€;
Lest those who trouble me rejoice when I am moved.

But I have trusted in Your mercy;
My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
Because He has dealt bountifully with me.

If you’re like me, sometimes you feel pressured to give a quick and definite answer to ‘defend’ God. Sometimes you want a definite answer to satisfy yourself.

But the truth is that some things we simply don’t know.

That means sometimes the best answer is…

I DON’T KNOW!

Even those who depend on science to shape their beliefs have to admit that with all of our advances in science and medicine, there is still more that’s unknown than is known.

Scientists still have to sometimes say…

I DON’T KNOW!

Doctors have to sometimes admit…

I DON’T KNOW!

There are times that after a deadly diagnoses that the illness sometimes disappears and the physician has to admit…

I DON’T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED!

So, no one should really scoff when a believer says they simply don’t know.

The fact is, there is great peace in admitting that even though you don’t know…you still trust God. He has told us that there are things that will be beyond are human minds, and even science helps prove that. There is much in science well beyond the reach of scientific knowledge.

Isaiah 55:8-9 (NKJV)

โ€œFor My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,โ€ says the Lord.
โ€œFor as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

Don’t deny yourself the blessing and peace of simply saying…”I DON’T KNOW!”

Psalm 131:1 (NKJV)

Lord, my heart is not [a]haughty,
Nor my eyes [b]lofty.
Neither do I [c]concern myself with great matters,
Nor with things too [d]profound for me.

Admitting that you don’t know doesn’t confirm God isn’t God, it just confirms that we are human.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

FOR THE NITPICKY: DON’T BE SO ‘ANAL’ THAT YOU BECOME AN A**…

wp-1506969085176993967666.jpg

Itโ€™s okay to want things done the way you think to be correct. Itโ€™s okay to be particularโ€ฆto be a perfectionistโ€ฆitโ€™s okay to be detailed.

Itโ€™s okay to provide constructive criticism, but itโ€™s not okay to be petty or hypocritical.

Itโ€™s not okay to hold people to a higher standard that you hold yourself.

Itโ€™s okay to try to maintain control in your life, but not everyone else’s.

Remember how Jesus rebuked the scribes and Pharisees in Matthew 23. Read the entire chapter for context, but check out this verseโ€ฆ

Matthew 23:4 (NKJV)

For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and layย themย on menโ€™s shoulders; but theyย themselvesย will not move them with one of their fingers.

Jesus rebuked them for being โ€˜nitpickyโ€™ and overly critical hypocrites. They wereย obsessive about criticizing others and expressing their expectations while not holding themselves to the same standard.

People are much more willing to hear what we have to say if we arenโ€™t nitpicky over every little detail in regard to them. We can get to the point to where people wonโ€™t even listen to us when we are right.

People not only will avoid your good advice. They will avoid you.

People will view you as obnoxious, nasty, and overly opinionatedโ€ฆeven those closest to you.

The term for this obsession, derived from Freudian psychoanalysis, is referred to as anal-retentiveness, or simply โ€˜analโ€™.

Donโ€™t be so โ€˜analโ€™ that you become an a**

Remember what the Apostle Paul saidโ€ฆ

Romans 12:18 (NKJV)

If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

WHAT TO DO WHEN THOSE CLOSEST TO YOU SEEM TO TURN AGAINST YOU…

People who love one another don’t always see eye to eye. There are times that those closest to you won’t agree with you, what you are doing, the way you think, you decisions or your ambitions, goals and vision.

There may even be seasons when those who are in your inner-circle will seem to turn against you. Their comments and actions may be out-right mean, vicious, and humiliating. They may make you feel totally alone. Sometimes it’s you who makes someone closest to you feel you are turning on them.

What do we do when this happens? Look at what David did before he became king…

1 Samuel 30:1-6 (NKJV)

Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And Davidโ€™s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was [a]grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

David’s men, who had proven to be loyal to him, were so distraught over their families being kidnapped that they talked among themselves about killing him. As you know this happened to Moses more than once.

David was understandably very distressed and felt totally alone. Questioning himself… Blaming himself… Disturbed about the welfare of his family as well.

But what did he do?

“BUT DAVID STRENGTHENED HIMSELF IN THE LORD GOD.”

After comforting himself and inquiring of God, David and his men went has rescued their families and not one person was lost.

Even though those closest to us may not want to stone us to death, they can resist us and say and do things that hurt us to our very souls. What do we do when that happens?

Here are a few suggestions…

1. ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE WORD OF GOD…

This account of King David is only one of many in the Bible of when those who were chosen by God received resistance from those closest to them. Read the Bible with fresh eyes noticing how many times the children of Israel turned on Moses in the wilderness. Notice how instead of comforting him, Job’s wife told him to curse God and die. Notice how David’s wife despised him for his public act of praise over he return of the Ark of the Covenant. Take note of the fact the Yeshua’s (Jesus) half brothers did not believe in Him before He went to the cross, and sarcastically berated Him…

John 7:4-5 (NKJV)

For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world.โ€ For even His brothers did not believe in Him.

2. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF ABOUT IN TRUTH THEY MAY HAVE SAID ABOUT YOU…

Even though it hurt, sometimes some of what your ‘rebellious’ loved ones says may be true. God may be using them to give you some painful truth about yourself that you may have not recognized or accepted. God may be using them to help you make necessary changes to fulfill His purpose for your life. Sometimes God uses those close to us to show us His ‘tough love;.

3. PRAY AND ASK GOD TO FORGIVE THEM FOR ANY THING THEY SAID OR DID TO HURT YOU…

Sometimes your loved one’s can say and do some things in their ‘flesh’ and in their anger that you can allow to become a wall in your relationships. They can say and do some things so painful that you can begin to hold grudges. You must ask God to forgive them for their harsh comments and actions even if they haven’t yes asked for forgiveness. Remember, God forgives us based on how we forgive those who have sinned against us. And, as stated above, God could’ve been using them to hold us accountable. YOU CAN FORGIVE ANYTHINGโ€ฆTODAY! #FORGIVENESS

HOW TO MOVE FORWARD WITHOUT AN APOLOGY ( 8 TIPS)โ€ฆ

4. ADJUST YOUR THINKING, ATTITUDE, VISION, GOALS, PATH, STRATEGY, TACTICS BASED ON WHAT YOU LEARNED…

After consulting God’s word and considering what those close to you said or did, be honest with yourself and make the necessary adjustments. Does your attitude need changing? Are there changes you need to make in how you think or do things? Have you been listening to God and praying before you act, or going out on your own? Have you prioritizing your will or someone else’s will over God’s will? Learn and grow through the painful experience.

5. MAKE SURE YOU AREN’T THE ANTAGONIST IN SOMEONE’S LIFE…

Remember when Jesus told Peter, “Get behind me Satan?” (Matthew 16:23). Peter meant no harm, but at that time the enemy was using him against Jesus. One of the enemy’s favorite strategies is using loved ones against one another. Make sure that the enemy isn’t using you against someone close to you in your life.

WHEN THE DEVIL USES US AGAINST OUR LOVED ONESโ€ฆ

There will always be ‘dark’ seasons in our relationships. But when those seasons arise, we have the responsibility to be the LIGHT. It isn’t always easy, but it is possible.

WHAT R. KELLY & KING DAVID IN THE BIBLE HAVE IN COMMON…

If you werenโ€™t aware of the allegations against R&B singer/songwriter/musician R. Kelly, then you probably are now after the Lifetime Network documentary, โ€œSurviving R. Kellyโ€ that originally aired a few years ago.

The show went into great detail through interviews to confirm that allegations of sexual abuse, predatory behavior and pedophilia are very serious.

There’s no question that R. Kelly had intimate relationships with many women. He admits that himself. And, itโ€™s no question that his lust for women has gotten him in trouble. His problem is that many of these women have been underage. Heโ€™s accused of summoning women to his โ€˜palaceโ€™ and abusing his power to influence them and take advantage of them. Some of the womenโ€™s families have accused him of brainwashing their daughters. The women interviewed stated that R. Kelly abused his ‘power’ and influence to control them.

But, there is another man in history who had a love for and quite frankly, lust for many women. The bible lets us know that he was intimate with numerous women. This man was even identified as a man after Godโ€™s own heartโ€ฆKing David.

Acts 13:22  (NKJV)

22 And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, โ€˜I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.โ€™

But, even though he was a man after Godโ€™s own heart, he wasn’t perfect. None of us are.

King David was also a singer/songwriter/musician.

As he was relaxing on the roof of His palace he saw a woman bathing outside. This woman, Bathsheba, wasnโ€™t only another manโ€™s wife, but she was the wife of a man, Uriah, who was devoted and loyal to David. Uriah was one of the soldiers in his army. David was attracted to her and abused his power as king to summon her to his palace. In fact, David summoned many women to become his wives. Iโ€™m sure she felt pressured to please the king, just as many of the women said they felt pressured to please R. Kelly.

After King David was intimate with Bathsheba, she became pregnant and to make a long story short, after the scheming and manipulating to hide the pregnancy didnโ€™t work, he had Uriah killed. He then he took Bathsheba to be his wife.

We see that David and R. Kelly had some things in common,

But there was one big difference in David and R. Kelly.

As of the time that the documentary aired, R. Kelly hadnโ€™t acknowledged or repented of doing anything wrong.

After being confronted with his sin, David repentedโ€ฆ

2 Samuel 12:13 (NKJV)

13 So David said to Nathan, โ€œI have sinned against the Lord.โ€

And Nathan said to David, โ€œThe Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die.

Psalm 51:4  (NKJV)

Against You, You only, have I sinned,
And done this evil in Your sightโ€”
That You may be found just [a]when You speak,
And blameless when You judge.

Davidโ€™s repentance is what confirms he was a man after Godโ€™s own heart.

R. Kelly has a huge library of music and some of his songs are even spiritual and sung in churches. However, there are many people today who refuse to listen to R. Kellyโ€™s music anymore. Radio stations all over the world are refusing to play his music. There are those who are demanding to โ€˜Mute R. Kellyโ€™.  Again, Mr. Kelly has not yet acknowledged or repented of any wrong doing.

We all know that David, under the inspiration of God, wrote most of the Psalms which of course are songs. They teach us how to worship, pray, praise, celebrate and even lament.

If David was living today, even though he repented, there would be many people who would refuse to listen to or sing many of the Psalms. There would be people wanting to ‘Mute David’ because of his serious sins. But, hereโ€™s the differenceโ€ฆagain, David repented.

Both David and R. Kellyโ€™s sins were revealed and made public.

We all have something in common with both of themโ€ฆ

Everyone of us has had dark moments. Moments of which we are very ashamed.

Our shameful moments maybe not to the extreme of David and R. Kelly, but nevertheless, moments that we donโ€™t want anyone to know about. Take a moment to think about some of the most shameful things you have done (or are still doing) and thank God for allowing them to remain secret.

ARENโ€™T YOU GLAD GOD ALLOWED SOME THINGS IN YOUR LIFE TO REMAIN SECRET?

If you havenโ€™t already stopped that behavior, stop it now and repent, just like King David did.

And remember this, the same forgiveness that was available to King David is available to both R. Kelly and to all of us.

Because just like King David, you can be a man or woman after Godโ€™s own heart, too.

I know there will be some people who will be critical of me comparing R. Kelly to David. But, God let’s us know that everything in the bible, especially the Old Testament, was written for our example…

1 Corinthians 10:11 (NKJV)

11 Now [a]all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our [b]admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.

HOW MANY (BUT NOT ALL) EVANGELICALS ARE RUINING THE ‘BRAND’ OF CHRISTIANITY…

The religious leaders during the time of Yeshua the Messiah’s (Jesus Christ) earthly ministry pretentiously observed and interpreted God’s word through the lens of their self-righteous, self-serving and hypocritical perspective.

They felt they represented what God and wanted from His people. They ‘cherry-picked’ the sins they felt concerned God the most while ignoring and justifying others…

Matthew 23:23 (NIV)

23 โ€œWoe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spicesโ€”mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the lawโ€”justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.

They continued traditions that were in contradiction to God’s word justifying them with their own reasoning…

Matthew 15:3 (NKJV)

3 He answered and said to them, โ€œWhy do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?

They condemned sinners without sharing God’s true word, will, love, truth and salvation…

Matthew 9:11-13 (NKJV)

11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, โ€œWhy does your Teacher eat with (A)tax collectors and (B)sinners?โ€ 12 When Jesus heard that, He said to them, โ€œThose who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 But go and learn what this means:(C)โ€˜I desire mercy and not sacrifice.โ€™ For I did not come to call the righteous, (D)but sinners, [a]to repentance.โ€

And, they responded with violence to those who opposed them or threatened their influence

Mark 11:18 (NKJV)

18 And (A)the scribes and chief priests heard it and sought how they might destroy Him; for they feared Him, because (B)all the people were astonished at His teaching.

However, the Lord was constantly rebuking them.

It’s amazing that so many (but not all) who call themselves or are labeled evangelicals can’t see the parallels. Many ‘Christians’ our preoccupied and prioritize two sins above equal abominations.

There are too many hard hearted, hypocritical people who call themselves evangelicals that are ‘ruining’ the brand of ‘Christianity’.

Besides, Jesus never called us to be Christians anyway. He called us to be disciples.

Matthew 28:19 (NKJV)

19 (A)Go [a]therefore and (B)make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

John 13:34-35 (NKJV)

34 (A)A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 (B)By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.โ€

I hope this doesn’t offend you. That’s not my intention, but if so…why assume that I’m talking about you unless it describes your behavior.

“In Jesus name” is his reputation and character. Notice how many times God says, FOR MY NAME’S SAKE in the bible.

It’s our responsibility to protect the brand!

Psalms 23:3

โ€œHe restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.โ€

WHY THE DEVIL IS NOT A PYROMANIAC…

picsart_03-20-091646775438.jpg

We must never unintentionally give the devil too much glory or power!

Many people picture the enemy on a throne, ruling all those who are condemned to Hell. That is not the case.

He doesnโ€™t love fire. He doesnโ€™t rule fire, and he will not โ€˜ruleโ€™ Hell.

Hell is his condemnationโ€ฆ

Hell is his punishmentโ€ฆ

HELL WILL BE HIS PRISON, NOT HIS KINGDOM!

Hell is his future, along with those who reject God through our Lord and Savior, Yeshua, Christ Jesus.

John 3:36 (NKJV)

36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.โ€

The enemy doesnโ€™t have the keys to the abyss. He does not control the intensity of the flames. He will not be the ruler of those who share his condemnation. He will be stripped of all power that was granted to him for a season.

Matthew 25:41  (NKJV)

41 โ€œThen He will also say to those on the left hand, โ€˜Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

 John 12:31  (NKJV)

31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

 Romans 16:20  (NKJV)

20 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.

 Revelation 20:10  (NKJV)

10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where[a] the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

The enemy isnโ€™t omniscientโ€ฆomnipotentโ€ฆor omnipresent, and heโ€™s definitely not eternal. Best of all we have power over the enemy through our risen Saviorโ€ฆ

John 4:3-4  (NKJV)

and every spirit that does not confess that[a] Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

James 4:7 (NKJV)

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

Revelation 12:10-11  (NKJV)

10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, โ€œNow salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

There are more scriptures that speak of the enemyโ€™s imminent defeat, and in all of themโ€ฆhe is powerless.

Remember, the devil didnโ€™t set the fire in Hell, nor will he fan the flamesโ€ฆhe wonโ€™t have to. God is in control.

Matthew 25:41  (NKJV)

41 โ€œThen He will also say to those on the left hand, โ€˜Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Now, I know there are many people who don’t believe in Hell. This isn’t for you, but for those of you who do.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

IF YOUโ€™RE STILL GLAD YOU DID IT, THEN GOD HASNโ€™T FORGIVEN YOUโ€ฆYET.

wp-1491939214601.

We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

We have all done some things of which we are ashamedโ€ฆat least I hope so.

Why?

Because our shame is what leads to godly sorrowโ€ฆwhich leads to true repentanceโ€ฆ

2 Corinthians 7:10 (NKJV)

For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.

Remember that repentance isnโ€™t simply just asking God for forgiveness, but a made up, resolute mind to completely turn from the sin that weโ€™ve committed or have been practicing. Repentance according to Strongโ€™s Concordance literally means โ€œa change of mindโ€. All sin, no matter how spontaneous, begins with a thought.

Repentance is a legal U-Turn in your mindโ€ฆ

God wants us to REPENT and not REPEAT!

So, itโ€™s good when we have regret of what we did. In fact, we should make the most of our regrets to be better people. Find out more about this in my article, โ€œHow to Make the Most of Your Regretsโ€.

But, what about when we donโ€™t have regrets? What about those things that weโ€™re glad we did?

It may have given us pleasureโ€ฆ

We may have felt vindicatedโ€ฆ

We may have โ€˜gotten evenโ€™ with someoneโ€ฆ

It might have given us gloryโ€ฆ

We may have gained wealth and prominenceโ€ฆ

Whatever the reasonโ€ฆyou know in your heart that it was WRONG, but youโ€™re still GLAD (sometimes even proud) you did it.

I remember when I was a teenager, I used to have older men come to me and brag about how they used to โ€˜run the womenโ€™ when they were youngerโ€ฆbut not in a shameful, โ€œDonโ€™t make the same mistakes I madeโ€ type of way. No, they were bragging. They were trying to impress me. It was clear they were still proud of if. Well, if theyโ€™ve asked God to forgive themโ€ฆthe sin is still there.

God only forgives us when we repent. Yes, weโ€™ve all gone back and done some things that we had not only asked forgiveness for, but also promised God that we would not do again. He knew when we said it.

But, God knows the difference in a changed mind that really worked hard, and sometimes even struggled not to go backโ€ฆAnd, when someone is actually proud of what they did.

God knows when we unexpectedly end up in tempting situationsโ€ฆAnd, when we actually position ourselves to commit the same sin again.

Think for a moment. Is there a sin in which God hasnโ€™t forgiven you?

If youโ€™re still glad that you did itโ€ฆ

If you know in your heart that you would do it againโ€ฆ

If you think back on it fondlyโ€ฆ

If you sometimes brag about itโ€ฆ

If you have no shameโ€ฆ

Then itโ€™s a good chance that you havenโ€™t repented, and if notโ€ฆthat sin is still there.

Think of how you feel when someone has hurt you, and even though they say theyโ€™re โ€œsorryโ€โ€ฆthey continue to do it over and over, or they donโ€™t show any remorse.

Thatโ€™s evidence that weโ€™re made in Godโ€™s image, the fact that we can hurt just as He hurts when done wrong.

You seeโ€ฆweโ€™re like our Father in heavenโ€ฆ

We want people to REPENT and not REPEAT too.

Examine yourself today. If there is sin in your life that you donโ€™t regret. Pray for a repentant heart. Make an effort to have a total change of mind about that sin.

If you donโ€™t regret it because it gave you pleasureโ€ฆthink of how that pleasure hurt God.

If you donโ€™t regret it because you felt vindicated for got evenโ€ฆforgive.

If you donโ€™t regret it because it gave you gloryโ€ฆthink of the fact that you were sharing that glory with the devil and not God.

If you donโ€™t regret it because you gained wealth or prominenceโ€ฆuse your resources and influence to give glory to God.

Be ashamed enough of what you did that it hurts you to think of yourself doing it againโ€ฆ

Make a legal U-Turn in your mind.

REPENT and donโ€™t REPEAT

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR WORLD TODAY NO MATTER HOW MESSED UP EVERYONE ELSE IS…

When you think about it dysfunction is the norm. There’s no perfect marriage, family, relationship. There will always be issues on your job and in your career. There will always be selfishness, dishonesty and favoritism is local, state, national, business and even church politics.

Look at the people in the bible. Every person that God used was far from perfect. Every family featured in the bible was dysfunctional.

God has always carried out His perfect will through imperfect people.

But, the dysfunction around you doesn’t prevent you from changing your world, today.

How?

If no one else changes but you, your world and the world around you will charge.

A more accountable you.

A more loving you.

A more joyful you.

A more peaceful you.

A more patient you.

A more kind you.

A more kind.

A more faithful you.

A more gentle you.

A more controlled you.

A more disciplined you.

Sometimes a more medicated you.

A more ________________ you. (You know how you need to change).

A better you will make the world around you better.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

A new you!

Colossians 3:9-10 (NKJV)

HOW THE FIRST MARRIAGE IN THE BIBLE WAS INFLUENCED BY AN OUTSIDER…

One of the greatest threats to any marriage is outside influence. A mother, father, sister, brother, friend, co-worker or even an enemy that says something to influence the relationship of a husband and wife (man and woman).

All it takes for a married couple that’s very content with one another is or someone from the outside to say, “Doesn’t it bother you when he or she does…?” Has this ever happened to you? Have you ever done this yourself?

When someone does this, they become a ‘stumbling block’ in that marriage. And we all know what God says about those who cause someone else to ‘stumble’…

Matthew 18:7  (NIV)

Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to stumble! Such things must come, but woe to the person through whom they come!

This is by far nothing new. In fact, the very first attack on the very first marriage (Adam and Eve) came from outside influence…

Genesis 3:1  (NKJV)

3 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman…”

“And he said to the woman…” We all know that God had already told Adam, even before Eve was created that the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…

Genesis 2:15-17  (NKJV)

15 Then the Lord God took [a]the man and put him in the garden of Eden to [b]tend and keep it. 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, โ€œOf every tree of the garden you may freely eat; 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you[c] shall surely die.โ€

The serpent (satan) knew this and used this to cunningly manipulate and influence Eve. We all know that today this takes place through both the husband and wife…

Once over 30 years ago when my wife and I were newlyweds, we had two cars. One was older and one was newer. I had absolutely no problem with my wife driving the newer car, while I drove the older one to work. But, one day my male coworkers began teasing me about driving the older car. I allowed their foolishness to influence me. I immediately got on the phone, called my wife and said, “I’m driving the new car tomorrow!” She was wondering, “Where did this come from?” In my youthful stupidity, I allowed those co-workers to influence my marriage.

My wife and I have always enjoyed being together. One day years ago, other females said to her, “Doesn’t it bother you being around your husband so much?” She briefly allowed their foolishness to influence her.

Be very careful about how you allow people to speak into your marriage, or family.

Be very careful not to let anyone speak badly about your spouse, even family…especially family. If they do, it’s because you have made them feel comfortable in doing so.

We all know the account of what happened after the enemy influenced Eve and when they both ate of the forbidden fruit.

Marriage is challenging enough without inviting in trouble from the outside.

THE MISTAKE OF TEACHING TO GIVE SELFISHLY (ONLY GIVING TO GET)…

wp-1493820930864.

God uses imperfect people to carry out His perfect will. That being said, we know that the church is made up of those imperfect people. Itโ€™s unavoidable that the church has historically made some mistakes. Whatโ€™s important is that we continue to learn from those mistakesโ€ฆand change.

I feel that one of the most damaging mistakes thatโ€™s been made in many churches is about GIVING. Iโ€™m not talking about HOW MUCH. Iโ€™m talking about WHY?

Too many people have been taught to GIVE SELFISHLY. Too many people have been taught and are being taught to approach God and give carnally. The โ€˜prosperityโ€™ movement has reduced giving to a selfless act, based on our culture of greed, as a โ€˜toolโ€™ to get what you want out of life from God. This allows the idolatry (Colossians 3:5) of worshiping oneself to pervert faith. They believe God can do it, but the motivation is wrong.

This actually comes from a biblical truth in the concept of giving when the bible saysโ€ฆ

Malachi 3:10-12 (NKJV)

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse,

That there may be food in My house,

And try Me now in this,โ€

Says the Lord of hosts,

โ€œIf I will not open for you the windows of heaven

And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it. 11 โ€œAnd I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes,

So that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground,

Nor shall the vine fail to bear fruit for you in the field,โ€

Says the Lord of hosts; 12 โ€œAnd all nations will call you blessed,

For you will be a delightful land,โ€

Says the Lord of hosts.

Again, this post isnโ€™t about the AMOUNT, but about the WHY. Of course God can and will bless you for giving from the heart, but when theyโ€™re honest with themselvesโ€ฆtoo many people give so they can release the blessings of verses 10 through 12 into THEIR OWN LIVES, โ€œopen the windows of heavenโ€โ€ฆโ€pour out a blessing that there will not be room to receive itโ€, โ€œrebuke the devourer for your sakesโ€, โ€œall the nations of the world will call you blessedโ€.

When theyโ€™re honest with themselves, many Christians only give so they can get. It is their BLE$$ING bill, their BLE$$ING noteโ€ฆno different than their utility bill, cell phone bill, mortgage, rent, car paymentโ€ฆthat if they DONโ€™T give God will cut off their blessings.

They prove this in their behavior. These same people who wonโ€™t get caught missing an opportunity to give donโ€™t seem to have a problem with not reading regularly, not praying regularly, not sharing their faith with unbelievers, not being generous beyond what they think is the minimum, not helping those in need, and not even having a regular prayer life.

When weโ€™re honest with ourselves, even when we help others sometimes, we arenโ€™t doing it to be a blessing, but so we can feel good about ourselves, or so others can see what weโ€™ve done. A good exampleโ€ฆso many people rush to feed those in need in shelters during Thanksgiving, as if these people donโ€™t need to eat 365 days per year. Jesus clearly tells us that when we do things for our own glory, that we have already received our rewardโ€ฆ

Matthew 6:1-2 (NKJV)

โ€œTake heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

Does that mean that itโ€™s always wrong to share when youโ€™ve blessed someone? No, because we are told to let our light shineโ€ฆhowever God also knows the reason why we shared it.

We must always be honest with ourselves of even why we do good.

God wants us to give unselfishly, wishing for nothing in return. He wants us to give to fund the growth of His Kingdom in the earth. He wants us to give to simply plant seeds of His love. He wants us to give to be A BLESSING and not ONLY TO BE BLESSED.

Look at some of the verses concerning unselfish giving, and think of how infrequently you hear some of them or all of themโ€ฆ

Luke 6:34-35 (NKJV)

34 And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive back, what credit is that to you? For even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much back. 35 But love your enemies, do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High. For He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

 2 Corinthians 9:5-15 (NKJV)

Therefore I thought it necessary to exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity and not as a grudging obligation. But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God I sable to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written:

โ€œHe has dispersed abroad,

He has given to the poor;

His righteousness endures forever.โ€[b]

10 Now may[c] He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, 11 while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.

 Ephesians 4:28 (NKJV)

28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

1 John 3:17 (NKJV)

17 But whoever has this worldโ€™s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?

There are many more verses where God makes it clear that we should give unselfishly.

Yes, we should always be obedient and give as God told us to do. We should be generous as God told us to be.

But, we must always be honest with ourselves as to why we’re giving or being generousโ€ฆbecause He already knows.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

TOO MANY CHRISTIANS REFUSE TO TURN THE OTHER CHEEK (AND HERE’S THE PROBLEM WITH THAT)…

It’s unfortunate that too many times, Christians totally disregard what God said. Christians will claim to live by God’s word where it’s convenient for their own personal theology, but in places where it challenges their beliefs or behavior, many totally disregard what the word says explicitly.

“You’ve got common sense.”

“God didn’t mean that”

“Times are different now!”

“They don’t know who they’re messing with!”

“Don’t make me revert back to my old self!”

“I haven’t always been saved!”

These are just a few of the statements made when people want to exercise their own authority over God’s word.

One such statement and commandment that Yeshua (Jesus) made was when He clearly told us to TURN THE OTHER CHEEK…

Matthew 5:38-39 (NKJV)

โ€œYou have heard that it was said, โ€˜An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.โ€™ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

There’s no IFs, ANDs or BUTs about what Jesus said. We are not to resist an evil person, but we are to do exactly what He did before He was crucified…

Luke 22:64 (NKJV)

64 [a]And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, โ€œProphesy! Who is the one who struck You?โ€

Many Christians are quick to teach their children that if someone hits you, that you are to hit them back. “Don’t let anyone think you’re afraid of them.”

Others will say that God allows you to defend yourself.

They are correct that God allows you to defend yourself WHEN YOUR LIFE IS IN DANGER. But, someone trying to humiliate or intimidate you by slapping you or striking you is totally different from someone tackling you or trying to overcome you physically. It’s totally different that when someone is really threatening your life.

HERE’S THE PROBLEM WITH IGNORING TURNING THE OTHER CHEEK…

Yes, God give us permission to defend our lives, but when our lives aren’t in danger, its not about self defense…IT’S ABOUT PRIDE!

Pride and the sins that come from pride (arrogance, jealousy, envy, wrath, revenge, etc.) are the reasons that disagreements escalate…

families are dysfunctional…

friendships end…

crime is prevalent in so many cities…

and wars strike up around the world.

Too many Christians are ‘ready for a fight’!

Too many Christians are fantasizing about a situation where they have to ‘stand their ground’!

Too many Christians don’t trust God to fight their battles! (Read 2 Chronicles Chapter 20).

Too many Christians are ready for a physical fight because they don’t trust God to fight their spiritual battles.

We can’t cherry-pick our way through the bible asserting our own authority over God’s. That’s idolatry, and He’s not having it.

WHY YOU’RE TOO OLD TO TAKE A SHOWER AT NIGHT THEN JUST GET UP & GO…

A little humor to address a serious ADULT issue.

I was in the office a few years ago and I kept noticing a slight, subtle unpleasant odor as someone walked by.

I remembered that this particular person told me that they took a shower at night so they could sleep longer…soooo, they just get out of the bed, get dressed and leave.

An adult, or GROWN person just canโ€™t do that!

We live a whole life in our sleep. Everything we do during the day, we do at night…

Sweat…

Burp…

Sneeze…

Flatulate…

Bathroom breaks…

And, even if you sleep through the entire night, the first thing most people have to do is โ€˜avail themselves to the facilitiesโ€™…(use the bathroom).

One of the greatest reminders that our flesh is temporary is the fact that as soon as we bathe, night or day, we begin becoming โ€˜uncleanโ€™. We begin โ€˜decayโ€™ in a sense so that no matter how much soap, deodorant, perfume, or cologne we put on…it will eventually wear away. In fact, if we go too long without bathing, our skin, the largest organ of the body, will become unhealthy.

SMELLING GOOD TAKES WORK BECAUSE SMELLING GOOD IS NOT NATURAL!

We have a responsibility to maintain physical and spiritual cleanliness. Not just for us… but for those around us.

Isaiah 1:16a (NKJV)

16 โ€œWash(A) yourselves, make yourselves clean…โ€

So, the moral of this story is that grown people need some soap and water every morning.

Once youโ€™re older than 7 years old, you need a shower, or bath, or at least an old fashioned โ€˜wash-upโ€™ EVERY DAY…even if you work from home.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

WHEN WE CLAIM WE HAVE MORE AUTHORITY THAN GOD (A ‘TEXTBOOK’ EXAMPLE)…

If we aren’t careful, we can let pride and arrogance creep into our faith. That’s exactly what the Pharisees, Scribes and Chief Priests did. They contended with Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ).

Their spirits live on today in many of those who claim to be Christians. I had a conversation with a man earlier this week. He had shared a post that was going around social media around Independence Day. I responded to the post with a scripture from the word of God, and a brief on-line conversation followed. Below is the post followed by the conversation in the form of a dialogue…

HERE’S THE POST:

I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States, and the Officers appointed over me according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.I took this oath on June 15th, 1984 my oath has no expiration date.********For all my military retired and veteran friends, I challenge you to copy and paste this as your status. Replace my name and date with yours. Happy Independence Day!”

As you notice the statement is an oath. Those entering the military or public office take this or a similar oath before beginning service. There is only one problem with that, God clearly has forbidden swearing or taking oaths. Our Lord told us to simply let our YES be YES and our NO be NO, in other words, let the truth in our words stand on it’s own as He does.

So here’s the conversation:

ME:

Matthew 5:34-37 (NKJV)Jesus Forbids Oaths34 But I say to you, do not swear at all: neither by heaven, for it is Godโ€™s throne; 35 nor by the earth, for it is His footstool; nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. 36 Nor shall you swear by your head, because you cannot make one hair white or black. 37 But let [b]your โ€˜Yesโ€™ be โ€˜Yes,โ€™ and your โ€˜No,โ€™ โ€˜No.โ€™ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.https://beblesstified.com/2020/06/25/why-the-word-swear-needs-to-be-removed-from-the-constitution-asap/

HIM: (Justifying what he wants to believe in spite of what Jesus said)

The only reason God forbids you from swearing to an oath is that he wants us to realize that when you swear to something, he is going to hold you to it. I swore to this oath and with God’s help I will hold to it and I stand by it. If he didn’t want us to swear to something then why did he swear in Isaiah that ever knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

As far as taking swear out of the constitution only weakens the meaning of it and would make it null and void and that is what the powers that be want.

He was referring to Isaiah,,,

Isaiah 45:23 (NKJV)

23 I have sworn by Myself;
The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness,
And shall not return,
That to Me every knee shall bow,
Every tongue shall take an oath.

(This is God swearing by Himself. We are not God)

ME:

“Yeshua forbade us from swearing because He wants the truth in our words to stand on its on, like His. Thatโ€™s why He said โ€˜Let your yes be yes, and your no be knowโ€™. You are trying to justify doing something that God clearly said DO NOT DO.Taking the word swear out does not weaken anything if God said donโ€™t do it. As far as Isaiah, That was God swearing by Himself…we are not God. You already know that oaths were permitted in the Old Testament, just like โ€˜an eye for an eyeโ€™. James 5:12 But above all, my brethren, (A)do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your โ€œYesโ€ be โ€œYes,โ€ and your โ€œNo,โ€ โ€œNo,โ€ lest you fall into [a]judgment. God bless you my brother”

HIM:

“I still stand by my word and I’m sure all others will as well.”

ME:

That’s fine and quite frankly that’s the problem. This is the type arrogance and pride that is bringing this country down. (pride comes before a fall). You are standing on YOUR word. I am standing on GOD’S word. I gave you scriptures from Matthew and James and explained the context of Isaiah. What you are doing is expecting God’s word to submit to YOUR will instead of submitting to HIS. Do you realize how dangerous that is? Do you realize thatโ€™s exactly what the Pharisees, Chief Priests, and Scribes did? I have done my duty in planting a seed of truth. God bless you. https://beblesstified.com/2020/07/05/worried-about-losing-your-freedom-look-at-your-own-pride-first/

This concluded the conversation.

Friends, so many Americans feel their freedoms are being challenged through masks, socialist ideology and ‘sinners’ in the land. I am 100% AGAIST SOCIALISM, but one would have to ask oneself why God might allow that to happen. Remember, that Israel lost their freedom and were exiled into Babylon not because of the pagans in the land, but because of their own compromise, arrogance, hypocrisy and spiritual adultery. WORRIED ABOUT LOSING YOUR FREEDOM? LOOK AT YOUR OWN PRIDE FIRSTโ€ฆ

Remember, Yeshua sharply rebuked the Pharisees for giving the traditions they wanted to keep above the word of God…

Matthew 15:3-9  (NKJV)

He answered and said to them, โ€œWhy do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition? For God commanded, saying, โ€˜Honor your father and your motherโ€™; and, โ€˜He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.โ€™ But you say, โ€˜Whoever says to his father or mother, โ€œWhatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to Godโ€โ€” then he need not honor his father [a]or mother.โ€™ Thus you have made the [b]commandment of God of no effect by your tradition. Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

โ€˜These people [c]draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.โ€™ โ€

Matthew 15:3-9 is a classic example of what the gentleman with whom I had the conversation was doing. He asserted that despite what God said in Matthew 5 and James 5, he was ‘standing on his word’. That’s dangerous.

I pray in the name of Yeshua the Messiah that God softens his heart to submit to His word, His will and His truth.

Be very careful that you aren’t claiming you have more authority than God by putting your will or traditions above His.

BE BLESSTIFIED!

WHEN SOMEONE ELSE’S KINDNESS PISSES YOU OFF…

Nobody’s THAT nice!

They get on my nerves with that smile on their face ALL the time!

Don’t they ever get angry!?”

They are always in someone else’s business! No one asked them for help!

“I wonder what they’re REALLY up to!”

Have you ever heard anyone make a statement like those above? Have you ever said or thought like that yourself?

There were numerous occasions in the bible when the Pharisees and religious leaders got pissed off at Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ) for doing good… being compassionate… healing…

BEING KIND!

One such occasion was when the Lord healed a man in the synagogue on the Sabbath day. Jesus showed compassion, kindness and changed a man’s world for the better by healing him of a life long ailment. As the jealous and evil religious leaders looked on, rather than being overjoyed at witnessing a miracle, they were enraged.

Rather than asking for the same healing, deliverance, restoration, forgiveness or salvation that was also available to them…they were incensed.

Rather that worshiping Jesus, they immediately conspired how they might destroy Him. It is clear that they were under powerful influence of the enemy.

Mark 3 (NKJV)

Andย He entered the synagogue again, and a man was there who had a withered hand.ย 2ย So theyย watched Him closely, whether He wouldย heal him on the Sabbath, so that they mightย [a]accuse Him.ย 3ย And He said to the man who had the withered hand,ย [b]โ€œStep forward.โ€ย 4ย Then He said to them,ย โ€œIs it lawful on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?โ€ย But they kept silent.ย 5ย And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by theย hardness of their hearts, He said to the man,ย โ€œStretch out your hand.โ€ย And he stretchedย itย out, and his hand was restoredย [c]as whole as the other.ย 6ย Then the Pharisees went out and immediately plotted withย the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.

Notice the Lord’s reaction to the hardness of their hearts in verse five (5). He was angry at them.

But, before we point a self-righteous finger at those who got pissed off at Jesus’ kindness, how many times have we gotten aggravated at someone showing God’s love?

How many times have we gotten angry at someone living out one of the most powerful Fruit of the Spirit?

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)

22ย Butย the fruit of the Spirit isย love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness,ย goodness,ย faithfulness,ย 23ย [a]gentleness, self-control.ย Against such there is no law.

How many times has someone else’s kindness led us to anger, jealously, envy, rage, wrath, gossip, or even hatred?

When we get angry at someone’s kindness, we are being influenced by the enemy. And, when we get angry at someone sharing God’s love, Jesus reacts to us the very same way He did with the Pharisees in Mark 3, and on so many other occasions…with anger.

Remember, we piss God off when we get pissed off at someone else’s kindness.

WHEN YOU WANT MORE RESPECT FROM OTHERS THAN YOU YOURSELF GIVE TO GOD…

Here’s a couple of yes or no questions to ask yourself.

Are you satisfied with the level of respect that you give to God?

Do you think that God is satisfied with the level of love and respect that you give to Him?

Husbands want their wives to respect them…

Wives want their husbands to respect them…

Parents want their children to respect them…

Children want their parents to respect them…

Employers want their employees to respect them…

Employees want their employers to respect them…

Leaders want their constituents to respect them…

Constituents want their leaders to respect them…

We want people to respect our race…

We want people to respect our heritage…

We want people to respect our rights.

But, how often do we stop and ask ourselves how much respect do we give to the God of our salvation?

You know what I believe? I honestly believe He sometimes allows…

Husbands to disrespect wives…

Wives to disrespect husbands…

Parents to disrespect children…

Employers to disrespect employees…

Employees to disrespect employers…

Leaders to disrespect their constituents…

Constituents to disrespect leaders…

He allows us to disrespect one another so we can see how HE feels when we…

Disrespect…

Disobey…

Dishonor…

Betray…

Ignore…

Him…

Or when we put Him to open shame.

Remember, if we aren’t careful we can be guilty of unintentionally trying to convince God to worship us and our will rather than us worshipping His will.

If we aren’t careful we can be guilty of the idolatry of worshipping ourselves. And, you know who got kicked out of Heaven for that…

Isaiah 14:12-14  (NKJV)

12 โ€œHow you are fallen from heaven,
[a]Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,

You who weakened the nations!
13 For you have said in your heart:
โ€˜I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.โ€™
