There are as many internal church and denominational church cultures as there are churches and denominations.
And, there are several denominations that feel dancing before God is an acceptable form of worship…
2 Samuel 6:14 (NKJV)
14 Then David (A)danced[a] before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing (B)a linen ephod. 15 (C)So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet.
Psalm 149:3 (NJKV)
3 (A)Let them praise His name with the dance;
Let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp.
This article is for those who feel dancing is an appropriate part of worship, not to debate whether it is or, not to judge those who do or don’t.
So, here’s the question…in many of the churches that DO incorporate dance into their worship, there are a few specific ‘dance steps’ that are often done during worship. These steps are typically called THE HOLY DANCE.
My question is when and where did these particular steps become the designated HOLY DANCE, and why are any other dance steps that ARE NOT sexually suggestive considered taboo and inappropriate for worship?
What do you think?
