AMC’s The Walking Dead has been one of television’s most successful shows consistently for years. For those who don’t know…it’s centered around a man, his son and a close, but ever changing, group of survivors in a world where a virus turns all humans into flesh-eating zombies when they die.

The zombies are a terrifying, dangerous threat…however the greatest and most dangerous threat on the show isn’t the dead…but the living.

On The Walking Dead, those who are left are normal people who do unmentionable acts of violence, treachery, even torture to one another to remain alive. What’s worse, many get to the point where they don’t just do it to survive…but they enjoy it.

Yes, that’s television, but if we stop and think about it, the world we live in is not that much different.

Sometimes, it doesn’t take much to bring the worse out of any of us.

When we are led by our flesh…our carnal mind, the enemy can and does convince us to do some horrible things.

God told us through the Apostle Paul…

Romans 7:15-25 (NKJV)

 ¹⁵ For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. ¹⁶ If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. ¹⁷ But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. ¹⁸ For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. ¹⁹ For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. ²⁰ Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. ²¹ I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. ²² For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. ²³ But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. ²⁴ O wretched man that I am! Think about this…Even though you didn’t do it, has anyone ever hurt you or someone you love to the point that either you wished them harm, or you would have taken pleasure in their misfortune?

Again, we are warned that if we are led by our flesh, (feeding on flesh) our selfish desires or anger that we can become just like those zombies on The Walking Dead…

Galatians 5:15 (NKJV)

15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

 At first you may have thought this article was going to refer to those who are lost in sin as ‘The Walking Dead, and that is true, but we must remember…

In both the letters I quoted above, Romans and Galatians, God was addressing and warning the church, not unbelievers.

 ⁷ To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints:

 God does not want His people to become, “The Walking Dead” walking in and being led by the flesh…because worse than being like the zombies on the show…

God doesn’t want us to become like the people.
