What is it that you like least about yourself? When was the last time you got โfed upโ with some aspect of your own character?
When was the last time you felt like the Apostle Paul when he said…
Romans 7:20-25 (NKJV)
20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me.
21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank Godโthrough Jesus Christ our Lord!
When was the last time you examined …
Your heart?
Your motives?
Your moods?
Your behavior?
Your prejudices?
Your priorities?
How you manage your emotions?
What makes you angry?
What makes you happy?
What impresses you? And why?
Are you a good, Godly influence to the people in your circle?
When was the last time you really thought about what God thinks about your character?
16 These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to [a]Him: 17 A[b] proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
God hates pride, and that has never changed. Yet, it has become common and accepted to be proud and express that pride. To be clear…
Racial pride is a sin…
National pride (disguised as patriotism) is a sin…
Gay pride is a sin…
Being proud of your accomplishments is a sin…
Being proud of your children is a sin…
โIโm a proud American!โ
โIโm proud to be Black!โ
โIโm proud to be White!โ
โIโm proud of my heritage!โ
โIโm proud of our traditions!โ
โIโm proud of my child!โ
โIโm proud of my accomplishments!โ
God does not excuse pride, no matter how we justify it.
Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV)
18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 16:5 (NKJV)
5 Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished.
Did you see that? The bible just said that being proud is an abomination, something that stinks in the nostrils of God. Yes, sin is sin, all sin is wrong, but an abomination is a sin that really ‘pisses’ God off and kindles His anger even more. Kinda like…it’s one thing for someone to pinch you, but it’s a another thing if they were to shoot you.
PRIDE DISGUISED AS ARROGANCE IS A PLAGUE OF THE SPIRIT IN AMERICA
Just watch the news. Just look at social media. Just read some blogs. Humility is viewed by many as weakness, but being loud, being mean, being ‘tough’, being insulting, being condescending, being disrespectful is being validated by too many of our national leaders. The shame is those who call themselves disciples of Christ are not holding leaders accountable. The result will be the next generation will grow to believe this is behavior that is acceptable by God.
God resists those who are proud…
James 4:6 (NKJV)
6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
โGod resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.โ
Humility pleases God. Look at the Fruit (evidence) of God’s Holy Spirit…
Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
In our culture, too many people view people with these qualities as weak.
Remember this. Anytime that you feel compelled to say, I’M PROUD, saying I’M THANKFUL is always more appropriate.
“I’m thankful for my children” rather than “I’m proud of my children”.
It’s unfortunate that many who claim to be disciples in Christ are so easily impressed by so-called strong words, insults, profanity, threats, retaliation, aggression…what the world calls strength.
In today’s society people consider humility, meekness, and restraint are weakness, while they see arrogance and pride as strength. MEEKNESS ISNโT WEAKNESSโฆ
Think about it. Even some women when asserting themselves claim they have ‘balls’. God never told us to have balls, but rather a tender heart.
The bible clearly, and explicitly lets us know the character He demands of those who claim to be His. He clearly gives us the true evidence, or “Fruit” that we possess His Spirit, character and attributes…
Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)
22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [a]gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)
Matthew 5:5 (NKJV)
5Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the [a]earth.
Matthew 5:39 (NKJV)
39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
Think about how many Christians are perfectly comfortable saying, “Hell yeah!” or “Hell no!” when Yeshua clearly said that ANYTHING above “YES” “NO” is from the devil and evil…
Matthew 5:37 (NKJV)
37 But let [a]your โYesโ be โYes,โ and your โNo,โ โNo.โ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
Almost 100 percent of the time, when I present the argument for quiet, Godly strength, the response is always the same...
“What about when Jesus was turning over the money changers in the temple or when He was rebuking the scribes and pharisees?”
Jesus was being no MORE strong when He got angry in the temple than when He was allowing them to insult Him…
Jesus was being no LESS strong when He allowed them to spit on Him, beat Him and insult Him than when He sharply rebuked His antagonists…
Jesus was being HIS STRONGEST when He endured the pain and shame of the cross.
Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV)
2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
